The Point at Poipu

I’ll give this resort a single star, only because the resort itself is beautiful and Unilocal doesn’t allow me to give anything lower than 1 star.
You would think that a resort with the Diamond Resorts International stamp of approval would uphold all the Diamond Resorts standards. Especially the standard of exceptional customer service. Well, sadly this resort, in particular their front desk staff fall, way, way, way below this standard.
We are Owners of Diamond Resorts International and this was our first time visiting Kaua’i and staying at the Point at Poipu. We had high expectations when visiting this resort because all the other Diamond Resorts properties we visit treat us exceptionally well. This visit to The Point at Poipu resort was by far the worst experience we have ever had with Diamond Resorts and any other non Diamond resort we have ever visited.
We stayed here from 6÷8÷16 — 6÷15÷16 We were celebrating quite a bit on this trip. My parents were renewing their wedding vows on the beach, my brother and his wife were celebrating their birthdays (one of them the big 3 – 0) a friends college graduation and another friends master’s degree graduation. So we were rollin’ deep on this trip. 17 in total! I booked our rooms a year in advance, you know, to be sure we got what we needed. I even called multiple times up until our arrival to be sure all our T’s were crossed. I requested to have all 3 of our rooms near each other and even reminded them of my request multiple times. I was told that there is no guarantee but I mean, when you’re given a request months in advance the likely hood of said request increases. Thus the reason why I requested it 6+ months in advance. But, of course not. Our rooms were no where near each other. The front desk who has no customer service experience, were so rude and unsympathetic or empathetic to our needs. They gave us the run around. They told my parents they could change rooms on Friday ⁶⁄₁₀ (the day of their vow renewal) so they could be near us. But they didn’t mention that there was a room right next to ours that was available to move into on Thursday! So on Friday morning, my parents, Aunt, brother and his wife, vacated their room and had to wait around for their room to be ready at 2pm. So now, they’re roomless on their vacation and wedding day! Well, 2pm comes around and they tell my dad that their room won’t be ready until 4pm. HA! That gives my parents 30 mins to get ready for their beach wedding. Oh Hecka No! My mom and I were livid. We went straight to the front desk and gave it to the straight. You Fudged up our vacation stay and added unnecessary stress to a very important day (slow clap for you) We demand a room NOW! We even offered to clean the room ourselves if that would mean would get it quicker. During this whole ordeal, not one of the front desk attendants showed any form of good customer service. They were so rude and not once apologized for the huge inconvenience they put us through. Why would I spend a large amount of money monthly to be treated so unprofessionally. This resort’s front desk desperately needs training on what customer service is because they have no idea.
Even being an owner, I would have to think long and hard before ever staying here again. We received substantially better customer service from the Hyatt Regency during our trip. Granted, this resort is gorgeous but their front desk attendants lack of training and experience make the resort ugly. I do know for a fact that the CEO, Stephen Cloobeck, values the highest standards in customer service. He would be ashamed to have seen what we were put through.

We had a great room away from the construction. Loved our balcony view, what a wonderful way to drink coffee every morning. Lots of kitchen appliances to cook on your own, go to Safeway before you get to your room. Beautiful walkways and beach nearby. The pool is nice too! Parking is not the best.

We arrived, exhausted, only to be met with full-​on CONSTRUCTION right outside all our windows! Our «Ocean View» consisted of about 15% of what we could see. The rest was multiple stories of scaffolding, cranes, backhoes, men SHOUTING, equipment crashing and general debris and trash.
It was a mess. I will upload the video as well, and you’ll see what I mean.
The only other room the hotel management offered was not Ocean View, and we were not in a position to waste our precious time haggling for hours for proper compensation or look for another hotel.

Please do not trust this establishment!

This is my idea of a vacation! quiet, and waking up every day with wonderful sunsets. The unit was a 2 bedroom condo with full kitchen, walking closets and laundry room. Great pool with beach sand and the best Maytais courtesy of mr Michael at the pool bar. The groups have well kept gardens .Next to this property is the grand Hyatt if you want to have brunch or go to shipwreck beach. Also there’s Poipu beach immediately on the west side around the point. The people was pleasant and attentive. we has some family and friends who loved this place.

Ehhhhhhh…
If you’re under the age of 65, this probably isn’t the place for you. The views are good, but there is no beach access without at least a half mile walk. The average age is hovering somewhere around 70 which means if you are in your 30s, you’re guaranteed to get scolded at least twice during your stay for being in the hot tub after 10pm not making any noises. Apparently the rules are very strict except for the older crew who can do whatever whenever. The place was also under construction during our stay so the amenities were slim. Too bad we had to go to the Hyatt or Marriott properties instead of keeping our money at the Point.

This is a really nice place to stay. The grounds and rooms are well kept. They have a fantastic jacuzzi and a cool pool. It’s also located close to some great beaches like Poipu State park. My advice is that if you are not interested in buying a timeshare, then don’t accept the raffle ticket and enticement offer to go talk to the concierge, aka, «sales.»

The facility and staff have dramatically improved. We have been owners for15 years and it’s as good as it gets now!

Aloha from Kauai!
If your looking for a quiet and peaceful and a little more privacy during your vacation stay, this is the spot. I felt like i had full privacy where i was not bother and it was not busy (meaning High traffic of people) at all times. I have noticed most of the people who stay here was older retired people. Everyone comes here to enjoy the view and stay inside and cook or bbq outside where grills were provided.
Pool
They have a Giant pool at this resort. The pool is really cool because it has a fake sand beach where you feel like your on the beach. The pool is huge and its great for a pool party! The pool is heated so at anytime it isn’t cold and you can just jump on in. The pool is not deep, majority of the pool is 4 ft deep. Near the pool they have tons of chairs for you to lounge at and get a good tan. There is a bar and grill near the pool. If your hungry or thirsty you can grab a drink and relax. They do have happy hour from 4pm to 7pm. Cheap drinks and food too. Lets say a $ 4 mai tai! yes so strong i got a bit too ummmm… yea what happens in kauai stays there…
Rooms
We had basically a house to live in! I felt like i was at home! There is a dining table in the dining room. 2 bedrooms, one master bedroom and one single room. A living room and a balcony which is shared with the single room, living room, and master bedroom. There is a full size kitchen as well and a washing and drying machine too!
Washing and drying machine — If i had notice they had these inside the room, i wouldn’t have pack so much so i can carry more chocolate nuts home. These machines are so handy because i can do laundry while i am on vacay in the same place and don’t have to go no where else. The machines are located right next to the kitchen, which can be loud while on, but it gets the job done. Yay for clean clothes.
Master bedroom — There is one bathroom with a hot tub, stand up shower, toilet, and double sink. There is a king size bed which was super comfy and a AC/​heater unit inside. There was also a walk in closet. The view i got was the jaccuzi. Also during my stay, i found a cockroach in the mater bedroom restroom so just be careful. Throughout the stay i found it to be clean and had no problem.
Single room — There is 2 single beds and one closet. There is a restroom right next to it, with a singe sink and a standing shower.
Kitchen — it is a full size with 2 sinks, blender, pots and bowls, and cup included along with utensils. They have a coffee roaster too so i went to the store to buy some hawaiian coffee and made fresh vanilla macadamia nut coffee. There is a fridge as well and perfect for storing all the fresh fruits we got.
Resort
Very peaceful and nice environment to walk around. There are tons of tropical flowers to observe and you will be like what??? yea that was me. There is a fish pond as well and its so nice to just watch those hungry giant koi fishes.
Jacuzzi — This is an adult only. It is separated in a different area than the pool. The jacuzzi has an amazing view! Basically an ocean view so you can watch the sunset or sunrise inside the warm water.
Bbq grills
The rule is first come first serve. Throughout the resort there is bbq grills every where, so there is no worries, unless your really wanting that one grill with the view. Also you don’t have to wash it completely but you do need to scrub it with the steel brush after your done, which takes a couple minutes.
Also there are 3 bbq grills near the jacuzzi, which i had a nice bbq dinner. Well instead of going out to eat, i went to the supermarket and bought some steak, salmon, and chicken wings and marinated it, then went ahead and grilled it to perfection with the nice view of the ocean. I was master chef for one night in kauai.
Parking
This is a big issue, first the parking space is really small and compact! Second its very hard to find parking during night time, we had to park all the way on the other end and walk back to start to get back to the place. I wish they had more parking and the parking space should be a bit bigger so some cars don’t take up 2 space. Parking here for 5 days was just horrendous.
Beach
There is a beach within 10 minute drive! The pon pu beach and i totally recommend it for snorkeling. The water is crisp clear and the water is calm. There are lots of fishes and remember to wear shoes because of the reefs.
Overall Very nice, quiet and peaceful stay. Staying here really feels like you on vacay. A vacay where you feel like your at home is what i really like. Wonderful view where ever you walk in this resort. Perfect location to go for a jog or walk as well if your staying at this resort. This resort location is within the beach in minutes of driving. Although driving back at night can be quite dark so i suggest do not go out too late, because of the no lighting on the winding curvy streets and highways. Mahalo for reading and happy Unilocaling.

I am a lucky lady, because I got the chance to travel for work and I was put up at the Point at Poipu. This is a lovely timeshare/​resort in a beautiful part of the island!
The room I stayed in was HUGE! Larger than my current place. It was a two-​bedroom suite for only $ 140 a night. I now know that’s because this room in particular was the furthest from the lobby, and on the other side of a current construction project. If I was staying for more than a single night I would have been disappointed, but for my purposes, it was fine.
The amenities are also awesome. The pool has to be one of the coolest resort pools ever, with a sandy walkway and a very slow decline into the pool. Also, I loved the jacuzzi — especially the adults only jacuzzi which has an ocean view and made for a breathtaking sunset soak.
Others have mentioned the pushiness of the concierge desk and the sales pitches. I did not have that experience. No one was pushy and the staff was very kind — allowing an early check in at 12:30pm and a late checkout at 11:30am.
Really a great stay — excited to come back again.

We stayed here for five nights on a Diamond Resorts dream vacation and had a really nice time. We had a 2-​bedroom garden view room on the third floor of building 1 and could see a little view of the ocean. Really large and comfortable 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths. One room had a king bed with attached large bathroom with huge shower and tub and two sinks. The other had two twin beds and a bathroom right next to it with shower and one sink. Nice kitchen adequately stocked. Large balcony with table, 4 chairs and a chaise lounge. Both bedrooms and the living room all had high definition TVs. The grounds are beautifully maintained and all the staff were very friendly. Huge pool but very shallow (deepest part was about 4.5 feet). Access to the cliffs at the point to watch sunrise and sunset, and a walking path to the Hyatt. Conveniently located in Poipu.

First things first the rooms are amazing and spacious but be on the look out for roaches and little flies in the room. This was my first time staying at a Diamond Resort and I must say they need to rehire most of the staff! They sucker you into meetings and are super pushy about it. The towel girl by the pool treats you like your 12 years old and the pool side grill staff is flat out rude… Nice way to treat people on VACATION in paradise! The food is not worth it and they don’t offer any recommendations on where to go if you do want a bite to eat. The staff is flat out not friendly! They have no festive activities to make your experience special, but walk over to the Hyatt and they have board games, sports, scuba, and free entertainment to give you that true Hawaiian feeling.
When my father went to file a complaint about the hospitality at the pool he had to wait 20 minutes before «a manager» came to speak with him after he spoke with her she then made it a point the tell him she wasn’t a direct supervisor so there really isn’t much she could do unless he wanted to put the complaint in writing!
Overall I want this team to understand we are paying to be here and have a fun relaxing vacation so you should try to make our time on the island as fun as possible! If you can’t understand that fact then maybe you shouldn’t be in the hospitality industry!
End of story I would not recommend staying here especially if this is your first time coming to the islands. I’m leaving this resort on a bad note.

Everything’s been wonderful, except the «corporate» guy at the sales meeting once we told him we weren’t buying and wanted to leave.

Our friends have a time share here and shared a 2-​bedroom suite with us. Though it isn’t very «fancy» per se and there were several areas of the grounds undergoing construction, we were highly impressed with this place.
First and foremost the staff are amazing; so friendly and hospitable that we had to «report» several of them. Seriously, whatever we needed whenever we needed it, they were there within minutes, with above and beyond what we requested and smiling about it.
The place is spotlessly clean, comfortable and in a great location.
The beds were comfy, with firm mattresses and the kitchen is well stocked.
We would absolutely return except that it is REALLY pricey and outside of our price range had we not been there on a friends «points».
None the less, we really enjoyed our time there.
Note: pool is gorgeous but very, very shallow. No gift shop if that’s something you need. Shops are close enough.

Out annual trip and the Point was a great place. The rooms are always great. If you are looking for a family friendly place then this is. It is close to beaches along the South side. You can swim, boogie board, and fish.
The resort has shear cliffs so there is no beach directly in back. The views of the ocean more then make up for it.
The Hyatt next door has access to Shipwrecks beach. You can drive or walk to others.
Major concern of many is the ongoing refurbishment of the building. It is a pain but reality is a ocean front resort must be maintained.
The onsite pool is large and great to use.
Rooms have full kitchens so you can save money by cooking in.
Visit Koloa town up the road for great eats.
The staff has always been great over there 15 years we have come to the resort. They take care of your needs and many have been here from the opening of the place. They are a wealth of knowledge.
Up the road are the CJ stables. Grab a rodeo if it is going.
In summary great place.

This is our first time staying at this Diamond Resort and it was rather disappointing. The views from our room were excellent, the ground were well kept, and the pool was beautiful. The problem was with the front desk staff, the concierge and the pool side grill.
The pool side grill is awful. I was really disappointed with the quality of the food. We ordered a chili cheese hot dog, a kids Mac and Cheese, a BLT, and a pulled pork sandwich. The food was mediocre and they messed up on our order. The Mac and Cheese came from a box and was not fresh made. It was dry as if it had sat out all day. The pulled pork was oily and smothered with processed American cheese. My teenage son ate the BLT without complaint. The chili cheese hot dog was bleh and missing the cheese we paid extra for.
The staff… ugh. Upon check in I was ‘greeted’ by Norma. Norma should not work at the front desk because she treats guest like we are idiots. Since I had never stayed at this resort before I had a few questions. Norma acted annoyed that I was bothering her with my questions and was short and condescending with her answers. Not the best way to start my vacation.
The concierge is the WORST! After check in I was immediately ushered over to the concierge for a ‘welcome gift’. That should have been my first clue. I met with John who was trying to sign me up for a owner update meeting (a timeshare presentation). We are not owners but my father in law is. I politely declined but he was super persistent because he gets some sort of credit if I signed up… Eventually I signed up with intention of canceling so I could get out of there and on with my vacation!
The next day I visited the concierge desk to cancel the scheduled presentation and inquire about activities. I was told the resort would offer a discount if I kept my scheduled presentation. So no discounts unless you visit a timeshare presentation :(
The discount offered was pretty nice, so I made the mistake of getting suckered in to attending a timeshare presentation.
I had some major issues with Bethany while
Scheduling a luau. She said she would call my room with the details and never did. I was unsure if our Luau was booked and tried several times to call the concierge desk to confirm. The staff at the concierge was too busy to take a call and the times they did answer I was told I would receive a call back. (I was never called back) In short this resulted in us not being able to attend a luau with the friends we were traveling with and the concierge staff initially tried to pass along the cancellation fees to us. Bethany must have gotten her hand slapped because she was unfriendly to my husband and avoided me the next few times we visited the desk. It was uncomfortable and unprofessional.
At another point in our vacation I had to call the concierge desk to inquire about golf for my husband. A woman answered the phone. The woman was extremely rude and flustered. She informed me she did not work at the desk and had to answer the phone by chance. She made sure to pass her frustration along to the guest. Again, unprofessional.
On a positive note the hospitality staff was wonderful!!! Kawehi was so patient while teaching my son to play his ukulele. We also visits the creature club and were helped by Kawai and Saydi who were both awesome!
Overall, if I was in the market to purchase a timeshare I would not recommend Diamond resorts in Kauai. The lack of a decent restaurant and the awful customer service from the staff is definitely a turn off.

Enjoying our stay at The Point at Poipu. Great room at bldg 1 lower floor corner unit. Haven’t went around and taken advantage of any resort activities but went to pool. Great location and nice path along beach. Here on timeshare exchange and have not been hounded for tour or anything. Concierge helpful when looking for activity reservations but when we looked into booking on our own found out wasn’t quite as expensive as they said. Ended up booking kayak trip on our own. Overall great place and great for families. Construction going on but did not impact us.

We just returned from 11 days at The Point at Poi’pu. It was our first time staying here. We toured the property twice in the 90s, when it was relatively new. It was an Embassy Suites which had been built by a Japanese concern before their economy hit the skids. We were very impressed w/​both the grounds and the suites themselves. Alan and I toured it by ourselves the first time and w/​my brother Jim when he joined us on a later trip to Kauai. Jim, who was a building contractor, knocked on one of the exterior walls of the building housing the lobby as we were leaving and pronounced the construction shoddy. We ended up buying a timeshare at the Lawai Beach Resort, also in Poi’pu, and later bought into Los Abrigados in Sedona. Los Abrigados was later bought by Diamond International. Lawai Beach resort had no room for us this trip but we were able to trade into The Point using Diamond Points. Alan made the arrangements, requesting that we be away from the construction and not too far from an elevator. Before we left we received a call about Events of a Lifetime, which I’ve described in my reviews of Gaylord’s, The Kilohana Plantation and The Beach House.
When we arrived at the resort after our flight and a light lunch at the Kalaheo Café, we were welcomed. Our suite was Building 6, 202. We parked the car and Michael took us and our luggage to our suite in a cart. He made sure we knew that a cart would be available ²⁴⁄₇ if we needed it. Because of my mobility issues we needed the cart every time we wanted to go to or from the parking lot. More able bodied people would walk. I remember having no problems navigating the grounds when we toured the property 20 years ago. They are beautiful and well maintained. The construction I referred to is the refurbishing of each building in turn, down to the girders. Remembering Jim’s comment, I’m not surprised. I’m not sure how many buildings have been completed. Our building has not yet been rebuilt. We were extremely pleased w/​out suite. It was on the second floor yet was ground level when leaving the cart. We had both a garden and an ocean view. As is our habit, we left the windows in the bedroom and in the living room open for the fresh air. We could sort of hear the sound of construction vehicles and roosters crowing off in the distance, but neither was close enough to be disturbing. The furniture was was very comfortable and the lighting was good for reading. The bed was also very comfortable and the linens were the usual Diamond quality. The bathrooms had the original rusty reddish granite. The faucets were starting to look old and tired but that will be taken care of in the renovation. I hope grab bars will be installed to assist getting in and out of the bathtub and showers safely. The kitchen is fully equipped. Someone commented in a review that the knives were from Ikea, but I have an Ikea knife and it’s better quality than these, although they weren’t as bad as some I’ve seen in timeshares.
We had a few reasons to call for engineering and every time they were prompt, friendly and helpful. The guys who drove us in the carts were very nice. We met several bellmen and three guys from Security. They all were helpful and friendly. Housekeeping came twice and did a fine job. Wifi was free and reliable. The memory that stays w/​me is is beautiful waves breaking blue and white on the rocks as we were driven on the path to or from our car. We felt royally treated during our entire stay and now feel we have two homes in Poi’pu to stay at. We haven’t felt at home in the same way anywhere else we’ve stayed aside from Lawai Beach. We wish the entire staff Mahalo and Aloha. This was review #1800.

It is now day 3 and we were moved from building 2, area of construction to building 6. This is almost same layout as previous unit except second bedroom has twin beds instead of queen size bed
This morning at 7am before we moved to new room we discovered all 6 room cards no longer worked (despite check out time being 11am) and our car was blocked in (see photo). After a 20 minute wait both problems solved. Not allowed to check in to new unit until 2:30pm but at least that’s earlier than 4. Check out our new view. Fire hydrant adds a nice touch to view eh?!
On bright side unit is super spacious and clean but would still never recommend it to any of you considering a time share trade!
At any rate avoid building 2 at all cost!!!

I returned in July 2013 with family. This trip was the complete opposite from my first stay. They remodeled the condo and it was very modern and clean. The concierge desk was very helpful when it came to restaurants in the area (although I trust Unilocal more) or any activities in or around the resort. I think Kauai is my fav island to visit, as of now. You didn’t disappoint this time! Looking forward to the next visit.
Only one thing I wasn’t too thrilled about about was the construction that was still going on during my trip. The started drilling and hammering as early as 8 am. Good thing we were all up and ready to get our day started. It was a good stay regardless of the noise.
