Baylor Scott & White Family Medicine Keller

First, the good. The front end staff is always friendly and polite. I’ve never had to wait very long to be sent back to my appointment. The nurse practitioners are awesome and are obviously the ones running the show; quite well for the most part.
Not so good: my primary physician, Dr. Jason Wander. I first went to Dr. Wander a little over a year ago, primarily for sleep apnea and issues with depression and anxiety. It had easily been five years since I’d seen a doctor due to not having insurance, and the only reason I went to this location is because my husband’s doctor had just stopped taking our provider. There were a lot of little things that built up due to lack of coverage, but for simplicity’s sake these two were the big ones.
Dr. Wander helped point me in the right direction to get a sleep study done by a specialist, so that was all right. I have severe depression and generalized anxiety and went into detail about this. I told him about the family history of it, and of the previous meds I’d been prescribed. I got my Vitamin D levels tested and found they were extremely low. Getting my levels back up helped my energy a lot.
However, he didn’t bother to check and see if I’d filled out an anxiety/​depression questionnaire. It wasn’t until over a year later when I went for my checkup that the nurse practitioner asked if I’d filled one out. Granted, at the time of my initial visit I had still thought there was a chance I could handle the issues with natural means such as yoga and meditation, so I specifically had said I didn’t want to go back on medications I’d already tried. The point is though, that he could have looked at my high score and taken my questions a little more seriously. Especially given that I’d already attempted most of the common medications and they didn’t work. He wasn’t particularly knowledgable about any newer options, which is really what I was interested in.
I’ll be honest, Dr. Wander has always been professional, but when you talk to him there’s the feeling that he’s just putting in the hours so he can get to where he really wants to be. And the last time I was in, his examining room was weird. Since I’d been there last, the walls had become covered with pictures made by his two small kids. Kids drawings are very telling about what goes on in a family. At first I found it cute, but then I got to really looking. Every single one was from Sunday school. If that’s your thing, great. It was just a little… overboard. There was one particularly creepy picture that had instructed the kid to draw what was in their house. It was a giant head with tiny arms and legs.
In any event, it turns out I’m able to be grandfathered into my husband’s doctor because he was a patient before the cutoff. Now I can go to an excellent GP that’s two minutes away from my house instead of a mediocre one that’s twenty five minutes off.
