History

Established in 1872.

The Landing Store originally stood on the right hand corner of Darrel’s Bridge Road in 1872. It was known as the Samuel Lord store before 1900. In 1913, it was purchased it and moved to it’s present location, known as the Way Side Cash Grocery before 1920. Jesse Ham, operated a shoe repair shop downtown, rented the building in 1920. He sold groceries, candy and ice cream and lived in the back of the store. On September 4, 1925 the building caught fire and was destroyed. Following the fire, Ham purchased the building and rebuilt it is it stands today. Charred beams can still be seen today suggesting that parts of the old store were reused when it was

rebuilt. Ham died on May 1, 1930. It is rumored that the store is haunted with his presence. Since that time many owners have owned and operated the store as a local grocery store. The current owners today, Dan & Ashley

Breton, make sure that store stays true to it’s roots in addition to providing

delicious eats!

Meet the Business Owner

Dan B.

Business Owner

After many years of working for Corporate America, Dan wanted to pursue something he could call his own and be proud of. In 2010, an opportunity presented itself to become partners in owning a piece of history. The Landing Store has been a historic landmark in this area for over a century, best known for it’s lobster rolls, whoopie pies, and a warm cup of coffee. At the end of 2011, Dan & his wife became the sole owners of the store and have enjoyed the «regulars» as they frequent throughout the year as well as meeting the many visitors who stop in during their stay in the Kennebunks. You’ll be greeted with friendliness when you arrive, and if you want to strike up a conversation with Dan — any discussion about any New England sports team might end up keeping you there for a while!
