Captain Jefferds Inn

Definitely a 4.5 stars for me! We had a wonderful time here and it was such a retreat and a well run inn.
We stayed in the Baxter room. It’s rustic, but the bed was comfortable, the sheets soft, and the bathtub is pretty much a jacuzzi. And yes, there’s a cozy fireplace. What more can you ask for on a retreat? The grounds are also beautiful.
My little dog and I really enjoyed basking in front of the fireplace.
The customer service was 5 stars by far. Everyone was really professional and kind. We also went down at night to ask for a plate for our cheese and we were given the whole shebang: a cheese plate, a cutting knife, two sharing plates, and silverware. It was perfect.
I also have to eat gluten free so the breakfast was really accommodating. They served me gluten free toast and scrambled eggs with ham. The only thing is my husband wasn’t a huge fan of the breakfast the one morning we stayed there. The breakfast menu is limited here and it seems you don’t so much have a menu, but they serve one different dish every morning. He’s not so much a sweets person, so the french toast to him he said tasted like a crème puff. It’s definitely a pretty strong and bold dish for someone with his tastes. But it tasted good he said, but it’s not something he could really eat much of in one sitting. That was our only complaint. BUT to be clear, the food was VERY well prepared and served, high quality. It’s just a matter of taste. Maybe they could have tweaked the toast, but he’s not so much a french toast person anyway. But if you’re really concerned about this, try talking to the staff and I’m sure they’ll accommodate.
Other than that, our stay was great and I’d definitely recommend this place!
PS. They are Pet Friendly which is also awesome. But be aware that only some of the rooms are pet friendly.

This place is beautiful! We stayed here for half our honeymoon, and the room we stayed in (the Florida room /​now called the River Green room — I think they repainted) was so perfect and romantic. The staff was friendly and professional, the breakfasts were incredible, and our room was cleaned by the time we got back from breakfast. Although this place is a bit pricey, it is obvious why when you experience such great quality. I would definitely come again!

This was one of the best vacations I’ve ever taken. The Captain Jefferds Inn is a wonderful place to get away from it all, with some of the nicest people I’ve met being the entirety of the staff. Sarah and staff were always willing to help with any requests or advice about activities to do in the area. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and wonderfully decorated. Many rooms come with gas fireplaces and some have spa tubs. Each room comes with plush bathrobes and the most luxurious linens I’ve ever slept in. The 3 course breakfast every morning provided a wonderful start to the day, and the staff was always willing to provide specially prepared dishes for those with food allergies. I can not recommend this place enough. I will definitely be coming back to stay at this fantastic inn!

My third stay was amazing, as it has always been! Breakfast is always delicious and filling, the rooms are relaxing and beautiful, and everyone is extremely helpful and friendly! I can’t say enough good things about Captain Jefferds Inn, and I look forward to returning.

My husband and I stayed in the honeymoon suite over the long Memorial Day weekend and had a fantastic stay. It is pricey for the average person but worth it for special stays or if you’re not concerned with pricing. The staff is everything you would want in the hosts of a B and B, friendly, accommodating and helpful with area attractions. Steve is the host and has a sweet, lovely personality. You feel like you’re staying in a home and not an impersonable hotel. Our room was nicely decorated and comfortable with the expected amenities. I’m not sure if it’s available in all rooms but we had a hot tub and chocolate treats. Breakfast is a 3-​course meal served in a dining room where you dine with other guests. The food is good, and they do a nice presentation. There is an afternoon snack with goodies like cookies, crackers, lemonade, etc. I believe tea and other beverages are available at all hours. Bicycles are also available for use. Although I’ve never stayed at a B and B before and have no comparison, they have set the bar high when I stay at another one.

I’d like to give it less than one star if that’s possible. From the time we showed up just awful customer service and treatment. Check in is 3, we got here at 245 to see if we could get in early and it was a no go. We watched as 3 groups came in after us and were brought to their rooms. We got into our room at 330, which was strange. At breakfast the next day, which is at a very strict time which they don’t tell you. I tried to get ice for a cooler and was given such attitude. I had a tee time, they were flabbergasted I wasn’t going to sit down and eat, which is required if you want breakfast. I left and my wife tried to get food delivered to the room for me which was impossible and unheard of for me seeing as I’ve stayed in many bed and breakfasts and always done that. Then when we got back I didn’t get to eat… no big deal I guess, so we decided to go to the beach, we went by there recommendation and pick a beach out of the book the had in the room and got a beach pass from the front desk, the beach was great, however when we got back to the car we had a parking ticket because the pass they gave us wasn’t covered at the beach we went too. Which they recommended!!! Ahhhh ok. So we got a $ 50 ticket and a sun burn… fun. Overall I feel like I got tricked. Never again.

We LOVED the Captain Jefferds Inn! We stayed there for a weekend in August and found it relaxing and inviting! We brought our pooch and were placed in one of the pet-​friendly rooms, the Terrace Room, which was cute and bright! Within walking distance of downtown and the BEST ice cream with all sorts of unique flavors at Rococo’s! Staff was helpful and friendly, we will definitely return in the future!

We recently celebrated our 5^th wedding anniversary at Captain Jefferds Inn and it was a great experience. We stayed in the Hideaway room — charming, comfortable and quaint. The staff at the inn was warm, welcoming and attentive. Breakfast was outstanding and started our days off on the right foot. The location is perfect, close enough to walk into downtown and yet tucked away so that it is quiet. Captain Jefferds Inn is a gem and we look forward to visiting again soon!

This Inn is as good as it gets in life. This Inn is a member of the Select Registry which has very high standards for their Inns. The Inn is beautiful. The grounds are breath taking, so many trees, beautiful garden and a nice terrace. There are rooms on the first floor if you do not want to walk up one or two stories. there is the Terrace room which is off the back patio and has a bright, beautiful beachy theme. I stayed in the Camden, located on the second floor, four poster bed, fireplace and large bathroom. They serve breakfast every
a beautiful dining room. There are coolies, cheese and crackers and a stocked refrigerator with soft drinks, water and juices available any time of the day. You feel like you are in your own home. The staff is friendly but do not intrude. Steven and Brandon were both very nice. If you want total relaxation, this is the place for you. If I could give this 10 stars, I would! Dog friendly Inn. I will be back!!!

We stayed at the Captain Jefferd’s Inn From May 6^th through the 10^th and it was a lovely stay.
We originally had the Terrace room, which I was disappointed to find looked out onto the shared patio that everyone used and the doors looking out onto the patio were almost the only source of light so it was either been seen by everyone or close the blinds and given the room description I wasn’t really expecting that. We also found the Queen bed a bit hard, but it was otherwise a very cute room with a spacious bathroom, huge closet area and fridge.
When we decided to rest for a bit before dinner there was a knock on the door and they asked if we would mind a free upgrade as they had a regular guest coming in and she needed a main floor room that was also pet friendly so they moved us to the Assisi Room on the third floor. This room was beautiful. Twice the size of the terrace room with a pillow-​top king sized bed, large sitting area and a large bathroom with a dual headed shower. There was also a gas fireplace and a little water feature /​rock garden you could turn on and off. For much of the week we were the only people on the third floor and it was very quiet.
For an Inn in an old home everything was VERY well maintained and taken care of. The rooms and grounds were immaculate. They have a guest fridge downstairs stocked with water, juice, soda and they have a keurig for guest use. As the Inn was quiet earlier in the week they kept the other rooms open so we had a peak at some, and they were all very unique. I would say after our experience though that a room with a king sized bed seemed to be the way to go.
The breakfasts in the morning were nice, and they tried to be accommodating of my lactose intolerance issue. My only complaint here is they told me they would check with me the day or night before the breakfast to see what I could or couldn’t eat or what they could modify but I usually had to hunt them down. On the last day we were there they had a stuffed french toast and I asked for plain as the cream cheese based stuffing would make me ill. Another guest was told he could get plain french toast just because he didn’t want anything sweet but I was told they couldn’t do that and all they could do is make me scrambled eggs. That disappointed me I bit.
I think if I didn’t have the issues getting a breakfast I could eat and if I didn’t feel the description was a bit lacking in the first room we got this would have been a 5 star review.
However, I would gladly go back particularly now that I have seen almost all the rooms in person. The owner, Sarah was an incredibly nice person who went out of her way to make people feel comfortable. The location is in perfect walking distance to everything in the area and by and large the staff there was lovely. Also I have never been to an «old» Inn that was so well maintained.
All in all a lovely and relaxing stay in Kennebunkport.

The town of Kennebunkport is charming and historic, as is the Captain Jefferds Inn.
The inn: friendly staff, gorgeous grounds and rooms, bikes on property, delicious afternoon tea, and great location.
The food: Keurig coffee, loose leaf tea, water and beverages are available ²⁴⁄₇. Afternoon tea time featured crisp apples, apple cider, shortbread, chocolate chips and cranberry oatmeal cookies, plus banana bread with cream cheese frosting and berry crumble bars. There were also crackers and olive spread. All very delicious.
Breakfast is served in shifts in the beautiful main dining room. We had some sort of sweet peach with jelly and whipped cream. It looked pretty but it was gross. Canned peach and cool whip. Then we were served a small blueberry muffin that was bursting with berries. This was the highlight of breakfast by far. Next up was frittata with bacon and cheese. It was not good. It was entirely too rich and salty. The bacon was mushy.
Our room: we stayed in the hideaway, a tiny room on the back side of the house, second floor. It was cozy and had an antique feel complete with a wooden train set and old books on Maine. Luckily there was a skylight over the bed which made the room feel bigger. If you’re over 4’9″ you will have to duck as you walk thought the door. This room really was perfect for us in terms of size, but the walls were very thin and we could hear the people in the room next to us. There is no tv, but we didn’t miss it because of the free wifi.
The location: literally situated in the middle of a gorgeous neighborhood full of old, large, well maintained homes. The inn sits on the edge of a park and is a block from the water an three blocks from the main town area. It is perfect.
We would stay here again for sure, but might skip the breakfast.

My fiancé and I stayed here and loved it so much we spent $ 500 to change the flights and stay longer. The room was gorgeous. Owners were friendly. Breakfast was incredible. Clean clean property with lots of perks. I’ve traveled all over the world and I have to say this is one of the most amazing places I have every stayed in. I felt so relaxed when I left. This was a wonderful bed and breakfast for me and my fiancée to stay in during our trip to Maine. Brandon, who checked us in, was friendly and attentive. The room we stayed in was nicely renovated, incredibly clean and comfortable. The street the inn was on a quiet street, and close enough to Dock Square that we could walk to the nearby restaurants for dinner. The inn also had the menus for many restaurants on hand so that you could decide before leaving which restaurant you wanted to go to. Breakfast was a three course meal and delicious. I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast.

Fantastic B&B, and Exceptionally Dog Friendly
5 stars all the way for the Captain Jefferds Inn! Stayed here recently for my girlfriend’s birthday.
The inn is situated on a very nice plot of land, with a small park behind it. It’s about a 10 minute walk to the restaurants and shops in Kennebunkport.
They have all the usual B&B amenities. Lots of teas, coffee, and freshly baked treats available. Breakfast was very good every day, with a variety of different items. The staff was also very accommodating of my girlfriend’s specific food allergies.
The big plus about this inn is that they allow dogs. The dog friendly rooms are in the carriage house, which is a separate building. We stayed in the Vermont room, which was very spacious, while still being nice and cozy. Having to exit the building to get to the inn was a little bit of a drag since early November can be a bit chilly, but it takes about 30 seconds to get from door to door.
The staff were very friendly and informative.
I highly recommend this B&B, especially if you are traveling with a four legged friend!

My wife and I just spent three days here.
Our room was cozy, appropriately furnished and had with a surprisingly capacious bathroom. (It had a fireplace but as it was August it went unlit.) Breakfasts each morning were delicious, with the guests having the option of sitting separately or at a larger communal table. The staff and the proprietress (we never encountered her spouse) were extremely helpful, yet unobtrusive.
Snacks/​cookies and coffee and soft drinks were available throughout the day. Newspapers (including the NYT and WSJ) and wifi were available for those of us who can’t do without.
In past visits to Kennebunkport we had stayed at another inn; but we are looking forward to returning to Captain Jefferds.

My husband took me here for the weekend on my 30^th birthday and it was an all-​around great experience. The innkeepers were kind, yet unobtrusive. You felt comfortable speaking with them but they were not in your face at any point.
We stayed in a room in the Carriage house with our dog and they had a treat for him when we arrived! I always appreciate a place that accepts dogs and really means it. The room was large with a whirlpool tub and lots of windows overlooking the grounds. While I would have been satisfied with just the dog welcome and great room… there is more…
The breakfast was fabulous! They did not make a big deal out of breakfast so we just expected a regular egg deal– nope, it was fresh and borderline the best breakfast we have had at a B&B. Very nice!
We will be back as soon as possible!

Located just a short stroll from the main square in Kennebunkport, this historic house was refashioned as a bed and breakfast in 1980 and has been in the hands of it’s present inn-​keepers for the past five years.
There’s no arguing with its charm and impeccable cleanliness. The service is helpful, if politely reserved. There are lots of public spaces both indoors and out to relax, read and enjoy your vacation.
Guests may also use the computer in the front parlor if they need to check e-​mail, web sites or access online maps of the area.
One of the loveliest public spaces is the sun room with it’s relaxing chairs, baskets of maps, menus and local information and urns of coffee and tea available all day. A small fridge off the room contains complimentary water and soda along with ice and glasses. A display case offers items for sale such as the inn’s robes, toiletries or local treats and ceramics. We noticed a package of our pup’s favorite (and hard to find) biscuits in there and planned to purchase them when we left but our generous hostess presented them to us as a gift.
Every afternoon, complimentary snacks, cheese, crackers, cookies and such are offered in the sun room and can be enjoyed there, on the outside deck or in your room.
The web site boasts of their gourmet three-​course breakfasts but neglects to mention they’re served at a communal table. The inn is undoubtedly romantic and bringing children is discouraged so we were surprised to find this decidedly non-​romantic set up. We joined the group on our first morning and people were friendly enough but the conversations were strained and it felt like we were trying to make friends on the first day of a new job. When we first entered the dining room we didn’t notice two small corner nooks but another couple (regulars, we later discovered) sat there and a small round table was set up for them.
The following morning we arrived in the dining room early and requested one of those private set-​ups. The hostess looked a bit perturbed but acceded to our request. And, at the end of the meal, she asked if we would like to reserve that table for the rest of our stay. Oh, yes, we would! A quiet, intimate breakfast for two was much more what we had in mind on our romantic vacation.
Breakfast itself is delicious at the inn. Every day of our stay we were treated to different varieties of fruit compotes, entrees and sweets. Our favorite breakfast began with a particularly attractive fruit salad served with a delectable mango sauce.
The entrée of vegetable egg frittata came with sweet & spicy bacon so delicious we asked for the recipe and the meal ended with a light and sweet strawberry shortcake with lots of fresh, ripe berries.
Additional rooms were added onto the back of the house at some point in it’s history and those offer outside access and the option to have your four-​legged friends accompany you. The inn’s website boasts that the newest and most extensive renovation was done to the Baxter Suite, fashioned in the style of a traditional Maine lodge. The room offers air-​conditioning (not an automatic amenity in Maine), TV, mini refrigerator, king sized bed and private screened porch. That sounded good to us and we booked it for a late August vacation.
The room was lovely although we have a bone to pick with its descrip– tion on the web site. It’s billed as a suite which is defined as more than one room. But, it’s not. It’s an average sized room with a somewhat cramped bathroom, whirlpool tub for two in the main room and two chairs.
Pretty though it was, at those high prices, we could wish for a bit more attention to detail. For example, the candle by the whirlpool tub was not new and had burned in such a way as to make lighting it difficult. The book of matches next to it was ¾ empty. One of the wooden slats on the window blinds was broken. The mini fridge tucked into the closet didn’t quite fit so it had to stand catty corner. The front door was warped so that it was hard to shut and the top lock didn’t line up, making it impossible to lock. The AC was also underpowered for the room. Although, to be fair, this was one of the hottest summers in recent history.
The Baxter’s private porch had been a big selling feature for us and sitting out there in the crisp early mornings was heavenly. But the foliage right by the entrance, as well as all along the foot path leading to the room was severely overgrown and that made walking uncomfortable and brought us far too close to the foraging bees.
If you’re considering a stay in the Baxter we should note that the ceilings are low. Brian is 6’4″ and barely… just barely… cleared the beams. Overall, though, Captain Jefferd’s Inn is a lovely place and we had a wonderful vacation in Maine.

This is the nicest B&B I’ve ever stayed in. We were in the New Hampshire room and it was beautiful and really big. The stand-​up shower was a little small but that’s the only complaint I have.
This place has dog friendly rooms in the Carriage House, where we stayed. They even had a welcome cookie in the room waiting for our dog with his name «Flynn» on it and a brand new tennis ball for him.
The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive and the 3 course breakfast was delicious. It was served in the formal dining room and you share the table with other guests so it’s sort of like you’re eating with a family. This isn’t really my thing but it was very low key and we didn’t feel the need to interact with other guests. I didn’t mind it at all.
We were walking distance to town which was a nice added feature and there is a big green park that belongs to the inn for dogs to run around. And, if you don’t like dogs, they won’t bother you if you stay here. They’re not allowed in the main house and you probably won’t even run into one — unless you want to.
This place is not cheap but definitely worth every penny.

The room we stayed in was clean, airy, pleasant and unique.
Captain Jefferds has a perfect balance between cleanliness, service, and modern touches that one would expect from a hotel, as well as the charm, authenticity, and intimacy one would hope to get from an Inn.
The service was so friendly, helpful and attentive and the property is extremely pleasant and quite beautiful.
The town close by is cute as a button too! Lots of restaurants and things to check out.
I hope to return to Captain Jefferds one day and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to the Kennebunkport area.
