Hoffman’s Auto & Tire

My husband and I were on our way to northern WI when the alternator started to die on our Honda civic. We managed to exit the highway and found Hoffman’s with high reviews on Unilocal so gave them a call and asked for an estimate.
They called a local tow truck for us AND ordered the new alternator so that it was waiting for us when we got there. We decided to go with them rather than waiting for AAA tow truck (which probably would have taken hours, even if it was free) and it was a good call.
They did some diagnostics to make sure there wasn’t some other issue, and then they fixed it and we were on our way to vacation! Al came and talked to us a few times so we knew what they were doing/​how it was progressing. The service was speedy and reasonably priced. Al (and the other people we talked to at the garage) were friendly and professional.

I brought my truck there for a simple alignment. When I dropped it off I took a picture of the odometer and fuel gauge. After the first time they aligned it I immediately dropped it off as it was in the same condition it was in when I dropped it off (the steering wheel was off because the last place that aligned it didn’t straighten the wheel out when they did it). So the next day they called me and said it was done. When I picked the truck up and was pulling out of the parking lot I noticed that when I turned the wheel the truck wanted to keep driving straight as if the rear end was locked up, but I thought it was probably nothing and just took it home for the night. After pulling out of their parking lot my fuel light came on and had to go straight to the gas station. While filling up I looked at the pictures on my phone to make sure and they used a quarter tank of fuel (25 gallon tank) and put 41 miles on the truck. I have been driving the truck for 10 years and never burned that kind of fuel in that short of time, that should have lasted at least 100 miles. While I was driving back to my shop I noticed the thing still wanted to go straight and the rear end would not unlock. When I got back to the shop I pulled the cover off the rear end and the teeth were all chewed up and the rear end was locked in posi rendering the truck a ticking time bomb that could not be driven that way without risking serious further damage and potentially locking it up completely on the highway causing an accident. After waiting a week to hear back from the owner Al Hoffman because he was on vacation in Florida when this happened I tried being reasonable with him and only asked him to pay for the parts to fix it. (I certainly didn’t want them working on it again because who knows what they would have done now that I called them out on their customer vehicle abuse). I thought I was being pretty fair and reasonable. Then because he was not getting back to me I needed the truck so I just went ahead and fixed it. After being very polite and trying to be as fair as I could be with the guy as I being a business owner myself I know how it is and Al Hoffman is not the one working on the truck and doing the abuse it was his employees, so as long as he made it right then what more could I ask for. Well finally after calling several times and being told he was with a customer I stopped in there 3 weeks later. This is when Al Hoffman told me that I had no proof that his employees abused my vehicle and the damage was caused by that abuse. I told him the truck was fine when it came in and broken when it left with an excessive amount of fuel consumed. He again said I had no proof, to which I said, even if I was standing here watching them beat on it you would still tell me that because you weren’t here with me watching. To this he replied that I was right and basically told me too bad it’s not his problem. Then I told him I will be making sure to leave reviews online and make sure to tell everyone I can find about his poor business practices. His response to this was «you own a busiess too and that can go both ways». I told him this has nothing to do with my business and only concerns my personal vehicle and he again told me he can essentially give my company bad reviews as retaliation. At this point I lost my cool and started yelling at which point one of his employees came out from in back and then Al Hoffman yelled at me to get out of his shop and started walking and getting up in my face along with his employee. So obviously I left.
And now that it’s 3 weeks later, my right front tire is showing serious signs of wear and needs to get aligned again because they couldn’t even do that right.
So I would NOT recommend this shop as they abuse their customers vehicles and then if ask them to pay for it they will tell you that you have no proof of it and then if you try to do anything about it they will retaliate against you in any dirty way. These are a bunch of scum bags who make a living by screwing their customers. THE COST OF FIXING THEIR ABUSE TOTALED $ 1154 NOT INCLUDING MY TIME!!! I HAVE INVOICES TO PROVE IT.

Rick and Russ did a great job of finding and fixing the screw in my rear tire as well as a great price for a full synthetic oil change, which we all know aren’t cheap. Very pleased with how quick it was handled as well as the customer service.

Just had the engine replaced in my Toyota at Hoffmans. They were excellent. Service was great and the pricing to do such a large job was reasonable. I am very pleased with how my vehicle runs and with the friendly/​professional service I received. I would recommend them for any service needs you may have. Thanks Al

My husband and I got a flat tire on the highway late on a Sunday night. After reading the reviews posted of Hoffmans, we decided to try them out. We called Monday morning and they were really great. They were super nice, efficient and really did eveything they could to get us back on the road as soon as possible. They even gave us a ride to go get some lunch while we waited.
We ended up just replacing all 4 tires. And I can honestly say I’m kinda bummed we don’t live closer because I would definitely continue to bring my car back to them for anything that may come up. But so far the tires are great. My car is very happy.

My girlfriend and I were en route to her folks in the heart of Wisconsin from Chicago. We planned on stopping at the Brat Stop for lunch, but her car starting having a coughing fit with the Check Engine light on just as we were getting close to 75^th. We pulled off to the rest area to reassess the situation and found Hoffman Auto on Unilocal close by. Not only did these extremely nice people accept our walk-​in emergency at mid day, but they had a shuttle van to drop us off at the Brat Stop while they took care of our car. The problem was diagnosed, a new Cam Sensor was ordered, delivered, installed, and we were back on the road in four hours. At the time we went there, Hoffman had only been open a year. The place was clean, the people were friendly and approachable, and the cost was affordable. We could not have had a better experience considering our circumstances. Thanks Hoffman.

I tried this place on a whim, because my cousin brought in fliers, which had $ 5 off of a $ 25 oil change for their grand opening. Found the place to be very clean, with very nice owner. Al is the owner and he is about as personable as they come.
I had the oil change, they fixed a loose valve stem on my tire, and have since been back for a brake inspection, and I am even using him for some auto body work.
On top of being great place to bring your car to be serviced, they are also very affordable. No out of place suggestions by the staff trying to get into your wallet. They simply want to fix your car and get you on the road. They also have killer gourmet coffee and a popcorn machine in the waiting area, to help kill the time.
I would suggest this newly established business to ALL of my friends and family (which I already have done).
