Velasquez & Sons Mufflers and Brakes

These guys were our regular mechanics for five years, though they almost never seemed to recognize us even from one day to the next. Had a couple of occasions where they did really shoddy work that needed to be corrected later, but let it go because they were cheap.
Had an issue where E85 was put into an unleaded engine. Honest mistake by a novice, before all the warning signs got put up last year. Took the car to Velasquez to have the incompatible fuel removed, along with an oil change and a tune up.
Initially they kept trying to assure us that it wouldn’t harm the vehicle, despite our letting them know that we knew for a fact that it would seriously damage the engine.
They finally agreed to drain the gas. We called twice more while they were working on it to make sure that they were doing that, because we suspected from their tone that they didn’t really intend to. They continued to assure us that they were doing so.
You can see where this is going.
Got the car back, could tell before it was out of the parking lot that they didn’t keep their word. It was still sputtering the exact same way and the needle hadn’t moved a milimeter. Didn’t physically have the time to go to another mechanic right away or the equipment to drain it ourselves, so we had to just top it off with unleaded and hope for the best.
Our hopes were in vain. The vehicle broke down within the week, with less than 150k and nothing else wrong with it, precisely because of the E85 they left in it.
These guys killed our car.
If I’d known as much about litigation then as I do now, I would have sued these guys nine ways to Sunday. As it stood I just decided not to do business with them again, though it is *still* tempting to this day, just because I know that they’re the cheapest place in town.
Whatever you do, if you’re working with these scumbags, get everything in writing, and be sure to have a third party verify the damage afterwards. You’re going to want a paper trail for small claims court when Velasquez screws you over.

Would not recommend. Went for an alignment. Was told I needed new tie rods, and upper and lower ball joints. I replaced these went back and was told I needed other parts replaced. I immediately went to Farm and Fleet they were able to do alignment no problems without replacing the other parts that this business said I needed.

Velasquez is legit. These guys do good work.
I had my vehicle in for rear drum brakes, when I drove off the lot they were making a strange scraping noise.
A week later I came back to have them fix what I felt was their mistake. They put the car up on the lift more than once attempting to find the solution, they even replaced the parts they had put on a week prior. Turns out that the only thing that it could be attributed to was the Hub/​Wheel Bearing. — Not their fault at all.
Still, they were extremely polite and didn’t once make a motion toward attempting to charge me.
The only reason they lose one star, is due to the lack of promptness in the waiting room, which is hit or miss. Their scheduling could use some refinement. — I had minor issues with them telling me it would be «just a moment» and then not attending to me for another 45 minutes. I also did not receive a call about my vehicle being ready, I had to call them.
Scheduling issues aside, I would highly recommend Velasquez for price and ‘customer is always right’ professionalism.
