I have a CVT transmission that was giving me trouble. The car broke down on I-​5 and spent the weekend at the dealers. I borrowed a car and drove back to Aberdeen. I called friends and asked who locally was the best. TRC was the name given. I read Unilocal reviews and made a phone call explaining my problem. They ran a diagnostic check, reviewed the dealers diagnostic check and then went over the results explaining in detail, to a layman, what was going on. In my opinion Transmission Specialists did a far better, more comprehensive analysis, using the history of the codes shown they said there could possibly be a connection related to a recall from 80,000 miles earlier. I took the information and drove the car back to Aberdeen.
I called the automobiles national headquarters, explained my trouble and, with the second opinion and their concern about a connection to a previous recall, asked for help. They review my complaint and two days later agreed to pay $ 4,500 of the cost for a new transmission; provided it was done at a dealership of my choice. Which is why Transmission Specialists did not get my business.
(The dealer representative had told me it was a waste of time to call «national» since I had 100,000 miles on the car. He said no one would do anything for me and suggested trading in on a new car.)
Transmission Specialists gave me an understanding of the CVT transmission so I could ask questions and make a better decision. Although I have not had my work done there, I will not hesitate to go if ever I have trouble.
And a BIG SHOUT OUT to DEVIN in the warehouse. You did an OUTSTANDING job explaining the CVT transmission, the dealer’s report, and drawing simple directions to the Pacific Highway shop in Kent.

Customer Service here is spot on a-​mazing. TRC has remanufactured my transmission, and it comes with a 3 year unlimited warranty — so important. TRC can tow your car to replace your transmission as well (depending on p/​u location). EXCELLENT ~ Thank You!

They did my trans under a year ago and already going out. Took it back under warranty but why am I getting charged for other parts on the car that does not need be fixed. It was a mistake to come here. I’m going elsewhere and getting it done right by professional.
Trc transmission and transmission specialist is one and the same company. Stay away from both places they they are bad business

when i got the car back it shifted worse then it did before and not only that but they screwed up my alignment and never fixed it it took them 3 days the first time
when it was sent in for warranty after jumping through a ridiculous amount of hoops
they had my car for over 2 WEEKS that is 2 weeks with only one car for my family and both me and my wife work after 3 days i called they had not even started on it yet
then i got a call a week later saying hey going to start on mine now that is 10 days after They scheduled the pick up to ask me what was wrong they thought it drove fine apparently a vehicle slamming into gear or not down shifting at a stop is normal? maybe for these guys it is
i will never use them again and will make sure all my friends who use them don’t anymore

if you wanna get your car done right don’t come here. if you do its up to you. from experience I would not not. really do not use if you have money to keep coming back then ok. but for me and many others do not. the reviews before me are fake. trust me. don’t do it.

They fixed it right! Just had a rebuilt transmission put in my 2004 Passat Tdi. This is a ridiculous, complicated, transmission that many other shops could not even do. They never gave up even with a few glitches, and returned a perfectly smooth ride back to me. Transmissions can be complicated is what I learned, and patience is needed on both ends. Overall, TRC did a great job and I would recommend them to my friends and family.

We recently were shopping around for a rebuilt or remanufactured transmission as ours was starting to slip. We found TRC and were happy that we did as our transmission was literally on its last leg. The customer service was excellent and even helped us find a certified installation center for the install. We will definitely return to TRC if any of our other vehicles ever have a problem.

TRC handled my transmission problem with ease and convenience, they were professional and courteous in every way. I would recommend them to anybody, and will use them again if I ever need anything regarding a transmission.

I agree, I have no idea how these guys are getting any poor reviews has to be either: They have 1 division that rebuilds the transmissions and a separate division that R&R’s them? or there’s another company with the same name, or something. I own a Performance shop in SoCal and they have a 100% record with me for Sales, the rebuilds, the process, and any follow-​up questions. They are awesome and easy to do business with. Most of the poor reviews have to do with individuals who had a transmission replaced?

I don’t get how these guys have so many bad reviews, here’s my take. I own a German Auto Shop called Dub Autowerks. I’ve had TRC rebuild probably more than 20 transmissions for me in our 7 years in business. 99% of the time, things went off without a hitch, zero issues.
When I HAVE had an issue with them, it was one time with the rebuild, and another with a miss quote. Mistakes happen, and I want this to be a true review, I make mistakes on customer vehicles as well. It’s how you respond to adversity that really sets your business apart. When I was misquoted, they worked with me to get the price to where it needed to be, and they fixed the transmission that needed to be repaired with no problem as well.
So out of 20 transmissions I have had rebuilt in 7 years, as far as I know, every one is still on the road, shifting fine, and none have failed yet. They are my go to transmission rebuilder, and we are an award winning repair shop that is consistently rated in the top 2 shops in Washington out of over 500 shops.
We couldn’t be the best without TRC in our corner, automatic transmissions fail, and when they do, I go to TRC to rebuild ours, and get us back on the road.
Call them for a quote, and then take them your transmission to have it rebuilt.
It seems to me most of the people that have had issues with them are people who diagnosed their own transmission failure and had them fix it, in the end to find that it didn’t shift right. The issue is that transmission failure is often a symptom of another underlying concern, normally when we rebuild a trans we find that the mass airflow sensor or breather system is faulty and that was throwing the shift points off and caused it to fail. So it seems like some of the reviews on here are customers not realizing that there’s another issue with their car and blaming TRC for their vehicle not running properly.

This place is literally a nightmare. I cannot believe that this whole company is even still in business. The worst possible experience with any place I have ever been to. I got a new transmission for my 83 chevy almost a year ago with a warranty. Got it back, my truck would not shift correctly. So I took it back to be evaluated several times. Got the run around every time. Finally I got, what I thought to be answers and a fix. But they ended up screwing my truck up while in the process. Went to pick it up and turns out they cracked my distributor cap while installing the transmission and also left my truck reeking of alcohol. They fixed it and detailed it on their dime, luckily. So finally now a year later they have it back again due to not shifting correctly. Turns out the transmission they installed was «faulty». This time around they have had it for over a month. I still do not have my truck back. I was supposed to have it back a week ago and have not got a call for an update of what is even going in. I am horrified and completely unsatisfied with my experience. I want my truck back. I want a refund. I am so scared that my truck is even in that shop. This place is absolutely horrible. Do not take your vehicle here.

I own a Auto Repair shop in Redmond and have been using TRC for at least ten years with no problems. Come with a great warranty and they stand behind any issue. Scott and Jim are the two I talk to the most. Always treat me great!!! I highly Recommend TRC– Caleb

I had transmission work done on my van at a local shop (in Seattle) last summer. They gave me a 30k mile warranty on it. Apparently, the work was actually done at TRC. A couple of weeks ago, I had problems again and had to have the car towed. I called the shop wanting it fixed under warranty. They passed me on to TRC, who honored the warranty happily and with no hassles. I got the van back and it seems to run better even than it did when I first got it back last summer. I personally don’t recommend having transmission troubles, but if you’re going to have them, get the work done by TRC. They do excellent work and they stand behind their warranty.
