History
Established in 2003.
The Reading Tub is yet another example of how nurturing a small idea can lead to big things. A simple comment from my sister-in-law about helping parents pick out books for their kids generated an idea for a website. That was June 2003. Within a few weeks, two other families in Northern Virginia added their thoughts, too.
Now, we are a cadre of families, grandparents, teachers, students, and librarians all over the United States. Each of us believes so passionately about literacy that we volunteer our time to create the next generation of readers and break the cycle of illiteracy.
Meet the Business Owner
Terry D.
Business Owner
n 2001, Terry traded in her nearly 20-year career in government service for the all-important job of being Mom. The flexibility of being a Stay-at-Home-Mom allowed Terry to pursue her lifelong vocation for reading and literacy. Inspired by the time she spent reading with her daughter, she founded The Reading Tub, Inc. in 2003. Her purpose is clear: make it easy for families to create a positive reading environment at home, find great books (that don’t involve TV or movie characters) and make it accessible to EVERYONE! Terry, who worked as a Librarian’s Assistant in college, has Bachelors of Art degree in English, and also holds a Masters of Science in Strategic Intelligence. In 2009 she created Share a Story ~ Shape a Future, a blog tour for literacy. She also serves as a volunteer reader at a local elementary school, writes for the CommentLuv blog, and is a member of the Women’s Committee, Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation. Terry consults for the Moms Choice Awards.
