Dr. Martha has been taking care of Upper Keys pets since 1991. When the Upper Keys Animal Hospital was sold to VCA in 2000, Dr. Martha became the Medical Director and managed that practice until In 2010, when she left to build her own practice, the Island Hammock Pet Hospital. IHPH is a full service Veterinary Hospital committed to providing you and your pets the highest quality medical care at the lowest cost possible with a dedication to excellence and compassion in veterinary medicine. The boarding Villa at the Island Hammock Pet Hospital offers a state of the art boarding facility for both Dogs and Cats.

We love the Doctors at Island Hammock! Our senior dog has been treated by each of the doctors including Dr. Gomez. Everyone on staff is a kind, caring animal lover who makes you feel like your pet is their only patient.

My dog visited this vet three times in three months to get her nails clipped. They were pleasant at the front desk and the technicians were friendly.
It seemed like a no brainer to use this vet for my dog in the future so I contacted them for monthly preventative (heartworm and flea and tic)
Because I adopted my dog, I had limited records. As instructed I fowarded them the receptionist.
The type of Heartworm Disease treatment was questioned by Sally at the front desk.
Sally said my dog had not received adequate treatment and therefore is positive for HW. When I interrupted her to explain what had been explained to me in order to read the chart properly she said something to the effect of «if you let me finish I will tell you the treatment that should have been performed»
They were rude to say the least. When I sought out a third opinion I learned that although the type of treatment the rescue’s vet used is not preferred it is an approved treatment for HW.
There is more than 1 way (their way) to treat HW and I wonder if the receptionist should be giving out opinions that are not medically true. And to be fair I do not know if ANY doctor in their office even saw the chart. Or worse yet maybe the vet allows the receptionist to behave in a rude manner and furthermore allows the front office people to read charts and make medical judgements. I do not know those answers.
I understand medicine is a practice and there is more than 1 way to practice it. That is why we as pet owners can chose our doctors and office staff carefully.
Approx 10 days later… the doctor/​owner left me a VM and asked if I had any questions because she felt there was a miscommunication at the front desk.
A couple of days later, Sally called to discuss the miscommunication w me. It was very nice and we cleared up any misunderstanding. We both agreed that the animals (in this case my Molly) are truly the most important concern in any misunderstanding…

I cannot say enough good about Island Hammock Pet Hospital. While not a «hospital» per se, they do offer emergency service after regular hours and they do perform surgeries. They have a large, caring staff that begins with 3 vets.
I have sought regular and emergency treatment for my dog multiple times over each year. I have always been very pleased withy their genuine concern and care.
I recently experienced the end of my dog’s 9 year life. I called IHPH, who was already aware of his condition, and said I was bringing him in. It was about 2pm. Dr. Edwards was waiting outside as I arrived and carried my dog inside to lay him gently on a thick rug. She, a vet tech and I sat on the floor with him and gently patted him as he passed. We all just sat there with him and I was never rushed to leave him.
The entire staff, who had known my dog well, was in tears as I left that day. You cannot ask for more genuine caring and compassion than that.

I am very happy for the other reviewer unfortunately I did not have the same experience. My dog had jumped down from the car at the picnic area near Harry Harris park and must have fallen on a shell or rock and tore his nail and pad to the quick. I found these people on Unilocal and went straight there with my bleeding dog. Not, we were visitors to the area with an emergency, I was told sorry we are all booked up today… lovely people… thank goodness for the clinic next to tower pizza, wonderful vet and people!

This is a normal vet’s office, don’t let the word «hospital» make you think they are one of those emergency care only places that charge a fortune.
I think it’s just that they also do that, provide 24 hour emergency care.
They just opened a few months ago.
My normal vet is in Miami.
But my abnormal dog, who seems to grow something extra once a year, decided to tear his stitches out of his latest removal.
I walked in, no appointment, and didn’t wait that long. The vet and assistant were both warm and friendly. (I’ve never met a animal person who wasn’t.) She could have told me I needed to do this or that and charged me a lot, with my dog standing there with a gaping hole from a recent surgery. But instead she told me that some antibiotics, a satellite for his head and some Preparation H would last him the weekend till I could visit my normal vet. (I learned that people use for Preparation H for ALL sorts of things other then hemroids!)
I love honest people.
