The place seemed understaffed when we walked in. There is no hostess so the waitresses (of which there were only two) were seating people whenever they had a free moment. This seemed like a management problem since the staff was doing there best to compensate and actually did a far better job than I expected since they were so under staffed. We were going to order food and drinks but ended up just doing drinks because of the situation. Our drinks came out pretty fast and the bloody Mary’s were not bad. The gimlet we ordered came in a martini glass which is unique but tastes the same as any other gimlet. The food menu seemed a little small. It was not separated into appetizers and entrees. They just listed all their food and pizzas. Nothing was appetizer sized but some of the items did look good. Since I’m here on vacation I won’t be back to try more but the food could be good.

Came here on a wed night at 7pm. Not many people. Took about 5 min for someone to greet us. The menu is VERY different than that others mentioned here (attached) with very LIMITED selection (7 small plates, 5 pizzas 2 deserts) and it seems like everything we want to order they do NOT have… (so… Out of 7 small plate. They don’t have 3 seared ahi tuna, grilled shrimp baby arugula salad. Shrimp and grits also the shrimp pizza is out (they dont have shrimp… really who doesn’t have shrimp) and no bread pudding…) smh. We were really looking forward to eat at this place. But VERY disappointed with the selection offered. We end up ordered the lobster mac cheese and a drink. The lobster mac & cheese is ok. Nothing special tho. The caipirinha is good tho. Can’t believe we came to key west and wasted a quota here…

Based on previous review rates and my experience days ago, i’m almost certain the restaurant had changed their owner.
The waitress was laughing and joking when she told us the coffee machine was broken. I had no idea what she was laughing about. Waiting time was around 45 minutes. During waiting time the waitress simply disappeared. 20% service fee was forced to charge on the bill for the shitty service.
The food is OK. That’s the only star they deserve.

Was surprised to find this gem quite dead on a Thursday night. 4 stars for the service being a little off, though nothing terrible. Lots and lots of lobster and truffle oil on the menu. Huge plus! We shared a lobster pizza w arugula and goat cheese. It was amazing. Would have liked for there to be more lobster. I also had a prosciutto salad and was disappointed that although the plating was excellent and the salad divine, the seeds and core had been left on some of my pear slices. Coconut key lime pie for dessert was wonderful and my key lime martini complimented that quite well. All in all a great little place but to move to 5 stars some improvements could be made. Great for a vacation night dinner tho!

Great meal… We had a salad of baby arugula, feta, watermelon, cucumber, cilantro with a lemon grape-​seed oil vinaigrette was outstanding! Seared scallops sweet and tender. Lobster macaroni and cheese was good but not great, could have used more flavor. Service outstanding and the most comfortable beautiful ambiance. Loved this atmosphere so much! Couch like dinner benches. They also had a great acoustic 3 playing and that was very entertaining as well. Best place we visited in Key West!

Cannon fries were amazingly delicious. The rum runner was delicious. The bloody mary was watery… i give up on bloody Mary’s in key west.

The highlight of our vacation in Key West. The food was super yummy. Get the lobster mac and cheese and the seared scallops. It was delectable. And please please please leave room for the key lime pie. That was definitely a winner.

I’ve never had a tastier meal than I had here. I am not a seafood lover, so I chose the filet mignon with mushrooms in a red wine butter sauce. It was served with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and roasted zucchini and brussel sprouts. I ate every single bite because it was too delicious to waste. I ordered my filet medium. It was served at the perfect temperature and was extremely tender. It practically melted in my mouth. The sides were wonderful, too. Normally the side veggies are bland, but these were flavorful and delicious!
Two downfalls that did not affect my review: it’s pricier than advertised. Most entrées range from $ 30 – 36. Also, there is no indoor seating, so it can be quite hot while you enjoy your amazing meal!
Overall, I would eat here again in spite of the cost. Two thumbs up!!!

The lamb was pretty good but not any different from other restaurants (bottom line: it’s not really something your palate would remember). The fillet mignon was tasty but like the lamb, was not elevated to another level. The place, however, has a really clean & serene atmosphere unlike the restos/​bars in Duvall St. Service was excellent.

The best meal we ever got in Key West!
We were roaming back from Mallory Square and seeking a place to dine. I opened Unilocal and search all the nearby restaurants with high stars, and Grunts just jumped out.
Their tables are in the front yard like other restaurants on the island, as it’s a little away from Duval street, it’s pretty quiet. I ordered a grouper and shrimp, my wife had a snapper and shrimp, they’re all delicious and I just cannot describe the taste with words. All I can say is just taking the first bite of the savory veggies was making our whole day in Key West perfect.
It may be hard for me to revisit Key West again, but if I got the chance, I will surely go to Grunts!

Outstanding! My favorite meal in Key West. I ordered the mahi mahi and scallops and my husband had the snapper and shrimp. Both were phenomenal — cooked perfectly with a touch of sauce plated with fresh vegetables and rice.
The host was welcoming, friendly, and continued to check in with us throughout the meal. Patio seating felt festive and they had plenty of fans to keep it breezy.
A highly-​recommended oasis.

We came here on a local ’ s recommendation. We got here early because it gets very busy and can be low on staff. We were seated and served promptly. We enjoyed some wine and beer because there is no liquor here. No problem!
The chef makes everything from scratch so he was able to accommodate my food allergies with ease. He made me a large portion of Mahi Mahi with mashed potatoes in a lemon butter sauce. I think I inhaled it in 20 seconds. It was THAT good. My family ate their seared Ahi tuna and lobster with similar gusto. The portions are just right and we left feeling satisfied.
Try the desserts. The Key Lime pie was one of the best we sampled. The whiskey soaked bread pudding was incredible and was enough for 2 of my family to share.
I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to get off of Duval St and enjoy a relaxing and delicious meal.

My experience in Grunts was probably the best part of visiting Key West. Words cannot describe how amazing the lobster Mac and cheese is. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The fish tacos and fish dip were also delicious. The entrees we ordered were the lobster, mahi mahi, tuna, and burger. They were all great but the lobster and mahi mahi were definitely the top 2. We were seated right away on a Saturday (we arrived at around 9:30 pm) and Stefanie was our waitress. Service was great. Only minor con is that food takes a while to be prepared but they did warn us ahead of time (the wait is worth it I promise) Price was also very reasonable. Can’t wait to come back !

Lobster Mac and cheese tasted find except it didn’t have lobster. I tried to pay cash and the waiter was playing games with my change and took forever to bring back my change.
Water served in plastic cups.

Food was very good! Lobster Mac and Cheese was to die for, and the specials seemed to be much better than our expectations. High priced entrees. The service was great but short staff! Atmosphere is nice outside! It is surrounded by beautiful trees. I highly recommend eating here! :)
(Parking right next to restaurant is $ 25 if you don’t want to walk.)

A cute small little outdoor restaurant away from the madness of Duval Street with delicious food.
There is a indoor bar but its seperately owned which is weird and the kitchen is an outdoor kitchen in the backyard behind the bar which for sanitary reasons I do hope it has pass the health code regulations test… The bathroom is an outhouse next to the backyard kitchen and is somewhat clean… I had to dock a star for health code reasons… They do say the best cultural food never pass that standard but still I do feel uncomfortable with what I eat from a kitchen in the backyard next to an outhouse.
Anyways service is excellent from the hostess who kept refilling our water to our server who constantly checked on us and gave us excellent recommedations. He also had this cute European accent. Also the bus boy was ever so kind too when removing our plates and getting new ones.
Lobster Mac and Cheese (⁵⁄₅) ok by far the best I ever had. The portion is really small for the price dont get me wrong but worth every bite. The cheesiness and the breadcumbs blended perfectly with the lobster and pasta. yum! Still wish they gave us a little more.
Rack of lamb (⁵⁄₅) I had it cooked med. It was soo tender and juicy. The vegetable I could do without because it was overcooked but the mash potato was soo creamy and good.
Seared ahi tuna (⁴⁄₅) this was my roommate’s dish which I only had two bites and thought it was was seared perfectly and really fresh. I cannot rate it highly since I am not really a tuna fan but I did find it good.
Overall the food and service was good and I would return. I am still sketchy about the sanitary conditions of the kitchen… so I dont know if I should recommend undercook food but it is eat at your risk. Unfortunately I noticed alot of places in Key West has sanitary conditions that is questionable

A hidden gem in Key West! This place was a pleasant surprise and was walking distance from our resort and half a block from Duval. If you want a relaxing, quiet dinner in a quaint Key West joint with an amazing culinary seafood cuisine, then you have t check out Grunts!
We started off with lobster Mac and cheese… It was creamy with large chunks of lobster topped with truffle oil. OMG, it was AMAZING! Then I ordered the mahi mahi with scallops which was probably one of the best seafood dishes I have had in ages! The seasoning and juices that accompanied the mahi mahi and scallops was mouthwatering! My dad had the lobster and shrimp and he literally didn’t leave a morsel of anything in his plate!
This place is a bit in the expensive side but for the quality of food you get it’s totally worth it! Expect to pay two tabs since the bar and restaurant are owned by two different people (I know it’s strange, but it’s not a big deal).

A tradition that my wife and I have had is trying to visit a place that has been featured on Diners Drive ins and Dives when we are in a new city.
The interior of Grunts dates back to the 1800’s. It is filled with lots of old time memorabilia including a jukebox and coca cola machine. You have to get coins from the bartender to operate the coke machine. (Very old school).
When we were deciding on what to eat the waiter made some recommendations. When I showed interest in the Lobster Mac and Cheese he informed me they can also make it an entrée size even though it is not listed on the menu. I was sold. We accompanied it with the Fish Taco appetizer. Perfect amount of food for the both of us.
The Fish Tacos were not Mahi Mahi but a local fish called Basa. It is a very mild fish which is perfect in the taco. It is served with avocado, spicy chipotle and a mango papaya chutney.
The Lobster Mac and cheese was a food org – m. With large chunks of spiny lobster, white Truffle oil. It is topped with Panko breadcrumbs and baked to perfection with a nice crust on top.
Both items were so filling no dessert was necessary. The waiter kept coming back to take our plates and I was still using the bread to sop up the cheesy goodness.
Grunts is a cannot miss if in the Key West area.

This place is definitely worth to give a five star to!
The service and the food are freaking awesome there!
I was sitting at the bar, and the waitress whose name is Jada was so nice and helpful with my order. I had a Lobster Mac and cheese as appetizer and ordered a glass of L’escargot, which was really great!
And I took her advice and had the mahi mahi scallops as entrée, the dish was well cooked as well.
After all, the environment is quiet and cozy.
It’s definitely worth a try!
总而言之，来美国以后吃过最舒坦的一顿一般，狂霸酷炫屌炸天！建议，芝士比较浓郁，如果嫌腻的话来一杯白葡萄酒，清新爽口解油腻

Wow! Just wow…
This is a hidden gem I found with the help of wonderful Unilocalers. They guided me through the streets of Key West to find exactly what I wanted. The patio was beautiful with moody lighting for some great ambiance.
We started out with bread our waitress brought to the table. It was light and already garnished with olive oil and herbs. So good! I had the lobster macaroni and cheese. Yes, it is as heavenly as it sounds. Anything with truffle oil is amazing but this was a whole new level of creamy and delicious. For the life of me I can’t remember what my parents had to eat, since I was so involved with my meal, but I heard it was fantastic. My mom cleared her plate, which never happens.
The service was excellent and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something a little different. A quiet oasis amongst the crazy party of Key West.
