History

Established in 2014.

David Sloan started the first ghost tours in Key West back in 1996, but sold that business in order to spend more time researching haunted history in the Florida Keys and less time managing odd tour guides. In 2014 he launched Sloan’s Ghost Hunt so people could be a part of Key West’s haunted history instead of just hearing stories. Together with fellow ghost hunter, Ray Campbell, they have once again become the ghost tour visitors love and locals recommend.

Sloan started one of the 1^st ghost tours in the U.S. in 1996. He has researched haunted locations across the US, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Nicaragua and Bhutan, authored Ghosts of Key West & Haunted Key West, and is the biographer of Robert the Haunted Doll.

We had the chance to go on Sloane’s ghost hunt this weekend and would recommend the experience to all but the most skeptical. Our guide was very informative and, in addition to the ghost stories she told, provided great suggestions for local eateries and activities. We truly enjoyed hearing the local history. The ghost hunting tools provided, while certainly bringing out or skepticism, were a fun addition to a typical ghost walk nonetheless.

The tour was informative and fun! We had a good time and our guide was really nice. It’s nice to have a different experience on a ghost tour — different from the overly theatrical tours in the area which I also found fun. I recommend the tour for a more intimate good time with a guide. I should also mention that they were the best customer service I experienced of any that I encountered while booking! Total A+!
That being said, being a ghost hunt, I thought they would be a little more scientific with the «evidence» produced, so take the «orbs» and «EMF hits» with a very critical eye and huge grain of salt. Don’t bother trying to debunk any suspected «evidence» or question methods. «Unbelievers» are blamed for lack of spiritual communication.

So we decided to give a try for the ghost tour. It was 90 minutes long, but it felt like 5 minutes at the most. Very informative and entertaining host. To play with the devices (heat sensor and the electromagnetic reader) was pretty fun. I would definitely do it again once I get back. Highly recommended!

Very fun tour! I’ve been on w ghost tour once before in Portland Oregon… and this one was amazingly fun! I wasn’t even sure why I was «wasting» my money to do such a tour again… but very thankful I did! The kids and I had a blast!

While we didn’t get much supernatural activity, this was still a fun tour. Ray was our tour guide and was informative and entertaining. Learning the history of the island was just as good as the stories. We met David, the owner of the tour, who was nearly as entertaining as the tour itself.

This is a fake scam. All these people do is walk around a few blocks and give fake history lectures about things that never happened. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TOUR! IT IS BORING AND A SCAM!

Sloan’s Ghost Hunt was my family’s third ghost tour in Key West and it was certainly the most educational, interactive and entertaining. Ray was a fantastic tour guide who provided us with a wealth of information about the island’s past as well as its spirits, and took us into locations that the previous ghost tours did not. We were also given EMF meters, dowsing rods and temperature gauges to get more hands in with each location we visited. We were encouraged to take lots of photographs and ended up capturing some pretty interesting evidence in two different locations. In the beginning of the tour he told us he would save the best for last, and he certainly did. Highly recommend this hunt for anyone interested in the paranormal who doesn’t want to just be driven around Key West all night. There is a little bit of walking involved but I don’t know anyone (except possibly my 90 year old grandmother) who would have a difficult time with it.

We had a blast on the Sloan Ghost Hunt! Our Guide to the Other Side was very entertaining and captivating, and unlike some of the other tours in Key West you get to tour on foot, which allows you time to take in the experiences and explore more.
Sloan’s Ghost Hunt provides tools and devices specific to ghost hunting. This was definitely original nor was it offered by any other group to my knowledge.
It provides a more interactive experience with the spirits and with one another.
We received signals and got to hear voices whispering to us over a spirit box.
Chills racing up everyone’s arms, we meandered through the streets, everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. Our host, as mentioned before, was quite the character and very informative. His knowledge of the area and its history is quite unparalleled. After doing some research on him, I came to found out he in fact started the first ghost hunt in Key West!
All in all… a joy and something lovely and different to do.
