Tucked away just behind the Anaina Hou Community Park, the Kauai Mini Golf and the Namahana Café is a mostly undiscovered gem of Kauai. The Wai Koa Loop Trail is a five mile long excursion for, bikers or hikers, through the history of Kilauea and the beautiful scenery of Kauai. If you don’t have a bicycle, you can rent one at the Namahana Café at Kauai Mini Golf.

Use of the Wai Koa Loop Trail is free to everyone but please stop by the Namahana Café at Kauai Mini Golf to sign a waiver before you use the trail.

For bikers, the Wai Koa Loop Trail is an intermediate level trail and inexperienced bikers should be prepared to walk their bikes down the first two hills. After that, it’s pretty much «smooth sailing.» The trail takes about one to one and a half hours to ride (not accounting for stops at the many great sights), So, give yourself plenty of time to enjoy all that the trail has to offer.

Located at Anaina Hou Community Park on the mauka (mountain) side of Kuhio Highway in Kilauea. Rent mountain bikes and pick up a map and snacks at the Namahana Café next to Kauai Miniature Golf.

PLEASE NOTE:

* It is a 5 mile long intermediate level wilderness trail

* There are no bathroom facilities

* There are no specific water or rest stops

* There can be a lot of exposure to sun and rain

* You must sign a waiver to hike the trail, as it is held on private property
