Ramada Plaza Nags Head Oceanfront

My mother was cornered and physically assaulted by a drunk/​high/​angry/​agitated man in the hallway of the 3^rd floor while staying at this hotel. She notified the front desk of this man and they were not concerned at all. Did not check on my mother and did not assure her that they would look into the matter. Who knows, maybe this man went on to hurt someone else that night.
I would not recommend a place that is not concerned about the safety of their guests!

Currently staying at this hotel. Toilet is not attached to the floor in the bathroom and the room is very run down. Light switches in bathroom are very dirty. Pool is not very appealing and smells very strong like chlorine. My biggest advice is do not touch the bird and keep your distance! She crawled on me as I was saying hello (I had no desire to hold her) she then bit 4 moles off of my arm and I couldn’t get her to stop. The girl at the desk watched her do it and didn’t even attempt to help. I was bleeding quite a bit so I called the front desk once I got to my room and they said she goes to the vet often. Really? How is this the answer? The bird should be locked up if she bites. Hampton Inn is right next door, stay there.

We got here today, came in our room, and we had asked for it to be ground floor. It was a pet room and we didnt know it. It must have had pet dander all in it because I sneezed literally a hundred times. Finally I asked for another room and was given attitude at the front desk. While finally getting ready for bed, I got out my laptop and the internet wont work. I called the front desk and was given no help, only told me to look in the phonebook and call some number that wasn’t even there. I am on my phone now and very upset because I cant get my work done for my business without internet. It ia pretty crazy that in a hotel that I am paying 150 a night and sneezing my head off and no internet, wouldnt even try to reset the router for me or help me move all my luggage to a dander free room… Go to another place where they take care of their customers.

Arrived today for a dance competition with my daughter. We were greeted by a white bird named Sabrina and the man working the front desk, Mickey. Our reservation was reserved for the wrong night but Mickey was awesome! We was very friendly and accommodating to help my daughter and I get a room. Added bonus, it’s on the top floor. No one above me in a full hotel. The room is dated and tub didn’t drain. Carpet should be replaced with a laminate to withstand the summer. Bathroom was clean and bed was comfy. If Management reads this please give Mickey a shout out as he was extremely helpful and kind.

I was woken up at 2 a.m. with a loud chirp. then again at 3 a.m. then every 10 minutes after that. The hard-​wired smoke detector was going off. additionally the balcony door was squeaking every 3 — 29 minutes. I could not sleep the entire night. normally Ramada Inns are great quality and good customer service but this property did not respond. I had to disconnect the smoke detector. I am a non-​smoker. But it kept going off even disconnected when I realized it had a corroded battery which probably was low. That stopped one of the noises but the rattling balcony door kept me up the entire night. it is hard to switch rooms at 4 a.m. when you’re getting up at 6 a.m. anyway. I brought it to the attention of the front desk and they would have the general manager call me. I called back the same afternoon and they said to call back tomorrow because the GM was busy. This is the first complaint I have ever written. I use TripAdvisor all the time and at worst heading the average experience at any hotel. While it is an older property in the bed was comfortable I ended up awake 75% of the night. Ramada inn are typically good hotel chain but I would not stay at this location. It appears to be a very old hotel with new beds. Save your money and stay elsewhere with a better reputation.

There were a few minor issues with this hotel. It’s an older building, but I’m certain they are aware and are working to make some improvements. The most important thing to me is that the people here are good, honest people! I left a Bose bluetooth speaker here (which was really dumb!). Didn’t realize I left it until a week or so after returning home. I was certain I’d never see it again. However, they had my speaker, waiting for someone to claim it, and even Fed-​Exed it to me for free! Will definitely stay here again.

Great stay at the Ramada. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Got some interesting info on the exotic bird in the lobby… pretty neat!
They are renovating which is common in the off season… cleaning carpet and painting walls. I was very happy with my stay! Got a free hot coffee on my way out!

Even in a rainy, cloudy January, we enjoyed our 3 days at the Ramada Plaza. The rate was extremely competitive, especially considering the location and amenities. Our room was very clean and spacious. We had our dog with us and so had to be in a room on the first floor — right behind the Dunes — so we had no view of the ocean, but the sound of the waves on the other side of the dune was wonderful. Beach access is RIGHT THERE, and non-​pet rooms above the dune level must have a fantastic view. There is a nice (small) fitness room and a washer and dryer for guests to use (free and the hotel even provides detergent). The staff are always helpful and friendly too. This hotel has one of the largest, cleanest, and best indoor heated pools I’ve ever seen, and we swam lot and lounged in the hot tub.
Our only disappointment was the restaurant. We had been looking forward to eating dinner in-​house, but there appeared to be no customers in the restaurant, just 3 at the bar, and nobody approached us to welcome us, so we left and went to one of the many over-​priced bad restaurants on the OBX instead. The OBX are wonderful, but you have to drive a lot for mediocre food. That’s why it would be nice to have a good place to eat within your hotel but the Ramada Plaza is not that hotel — at least not in the off-​season.

I love this hotel! The staff is always super friendly, and the rooms are always clean. It’s in a great location too… there’s not much more you can ask for from a hotel.
BUT the absolute BEST part of this hotel isn’t the rooms… it’s Sabrina the bird!!! Sabrina is the cockatoo who hangs out in the lobby. I can’t enter or leave the hotel without stopping by her area… every single time!!! She’s so cute and funny. She talks, she climbs around, she whistles… she’s become one of my favorite things about my annual trip to the OBX triathlon!

Yes the rooms are a bit outdated but the great service more than makes up for it. I had a small problem with my room and they graciously moved me to another. The cleaning crew could be a bit more thorough but overall I had a nice vacation experience here. I’d definitely stay here again.

My boyfriend and I came down to Kill Devils Hill for a three day trip and stayed at the Ramada. While our stay was short lived, we very much enjoyed ourselves.
The hotel itself is very clean and as stated in another review, does not have a humid/​hot feel (it was 90 degrees outside during our entire stay). The staff was informative and very accommodating, especially when we asked to check in early (check in is at 4, they had our room cleaned and ready by 12 noon). Because our stay was so short, we didn’t have much time to unpack and organize so we somewhat scattered our belongings everywhere… Oxana, the woman who cleaned our room, did a phenomenal job… vacuuming and cleaning it to the standard that you would at your own home. Additionally, they have a little restaurant on site that my boyfriend and I ate at several times while switching off between the beach and the pool.
As far as entertainment, we went to the Comedy Club they had offered and thought it was hilarious! The show started at 9PM and was $ 15/​person.
This hotel is definitely worth staying at and we will definitely be back if the occasion arises again!

Always clean rooms, attentive staff that are friendly and always willing to point you in the right direction in regards to where to go to eat, shop or have a good time

*I write this as I lay awake at 3:58am in the hotel*.
My fiancé and our 3go came down here for the weekend (Thurs-​Sun) to attend a wedding. We booked this room back in the winter time while the snow was still falling. Neither of us had ever been to the OBX and after hearing nothing but amazing things, we were thrilled to have been given a reason to finally make the trip. This hotel was one of 3 that were recommended by the bride and groom for their guests. We chose this hotel over the others mainly because of price and the way the pictures looked online.
After a 8−9hr drive, with a pit stop to see the wild horses on our way in, we arrived at about 7:30pm. All three of us were exhausted and couldn’t wait to shower, relax, and sleep.
Upon entering the hotel, we walked into the lobby (which had a huge rolling AC unit to cool it down (What? No central AC?) and into a rather large group of an outlaw motorcycle gang. Afraid to say anything, my fiancé checked us in.
Once entering our room we turned on the AC and began to unpack. One whole half on the dresser has fake drawers and the ones that were useable were extremely small. We had to share and stuff our belongings in like sardines. After my shower I reached for a towel and noticed a «funky, moldy, aroma» on the towel. It wasn’t soft and clean smelling like other Ramamdas I have stayed at.
After getting into our pj’s we turned the TV on so our 3yo could watch and hopefully drift off to sleep. We looked for kid channels and all we could find was Nickelodeon. No Nick Jr., Sprout, Disney, etc. nothing our 3yo could watch.
Once our son finally settled down from the excitement of the day and all appeared to be pretty quiet, BOOM! The roar of the motorcycles started. They kept revving their bikes making more noise. I called down to the front desk to see if we could switch rooms to another hopefully more quiet side of the hotel so our son wouldn’t wake up from the bikes. (we are facing the parking lot). They told me the only thing they could do was move us to the first floor which was the pet friendly floor pretty much trading in revving cycle engines for barking dogs. We chose to stay after the operator, who seemed a bit annoyed at my request to switch rooms, told me that most of the bikers should be checking out in the morning.
Well, thankfully my son was apparently so tired from yesterday’s travels he hasn’t woken up from the constant growl of Harley’s pulling in all hours of the night. Me on the other hand, not so much. This is now my 3^rd time up. Between tossing and turning from the very soft bed, the humidity in the room (probably why the towel had the funky aroma), and the latest roar of the bike (which continue to pull in even now at 4:48am), I am fully awake.
While I am aware that the Ramada is not the Four Seasons and was not expecting it to be as such, I was expecting a rather clean, and comfortable experience. I’m now tired and wishing we chose a different hotel.
While I can say it isn’t the worst place I have been in, it is not a place that will go on my list of «Places to stay again».
Here’s how I rate it on each category:
Convenience: 4 stars
It’s right off the major road and easy to find with plenty of parking
Lobby: 3 stars
It’s typical of a Ramada. Clean, appealing, and welcoming. However, the huge portable AC was an eye sore and was one of the first things I noticed after the bikers.
Customer Service: 2 ½−3 stars
The woman that checked us in wasn’t very welcoming. Instead of saying, «Welcome to Ramada» when it was our turn to check in, she said «Next» like I was waiting in line at the deli counter at my local supermarket. (I work in customer service and admittedly have high expectations of others in the customer service industry).
Room: 2 stars
VERY humid, even with the AC on. Very damp feeling.
Soft bed. Not a bed for those that suffer from having a bad back.
Ok bathroom. Minus the smelly towels, the bathroom was fine.
Pool: No Rating since we haven’t checked it out yet
If you choose to stay here, make sure you lower your standards, pack other quiet time entertainment for you little ones as the TV will not be an option for them and pack your own bath towels.

My fiancé and I just spent the week here during the off season and we had a blast. The rooms were nice and extremely clean, you could smell the bleach on the bed sheets. Speaking of the bed — most comfortable in the world! All rooms have nice sized balconies too.
The hotel is near a lot of restaurants and things to do. I would recommend bringing bikes if you can. We rode our bikes up the wright brothers memorial that was fun. Hard going up the steep hill but boy was it fun flying down! There’s also a state park you can walk through a mile long sand dune. The best attraction was seeing the wild horses in Corolla! About an hour drive we did a 2 hour bus ride on the beach and through trails, $ 45/​person, and got to see about 12 wild horses. If you have 4 wheel drive you can just drive yourself looking for them. Seeing and climbing lighthouses is a popular attraction too but that was closed during the off season.
The hotel has a restaurant/​bar called peppercorns. Food was great and has very friendly staff who showed major southern hospitality. We are from jersey so we definitely don’t get to see that very often! In the summer they have an outside bar too and you’re right on the beach. If we come back to obx I will be staying there again!

it’s a Ramada, not a JW Marriott. Go in with appropriate expectations and it’ll be fine. The bathrooms were clean, the room was well-​kempt and the linens were soft and clean. The location can’t be beat — literally on the beach — and there’s plenty of open sand out there without having to fight off lots of people.
We brought a 4-​month old child and staff was very considerate to our needs. We had no issues with noise from the other guests, no rowdiness in the commons areas /​parking lot /​beach, and had some great conversations with other families in the pool area.
Our first room [2^nd floor, dune-​side] had a leak in the AC unit that created a puddle of water — so we informed the front desk so they could clean/​dry the carpets and repair the leak. Expected a transfer to another similar room on the 2^nd floor but got upgraded to a beautiful oceanview room on the 4^th floor. For free. Thank you management! Balcony was a great place for catching the sunrise every morning.
Would definitely stay here again. Great option when visiting the OBX.

The location was really great. The beach and some good restaurants were a walkable distance. If I were you, I’d request a beachview so that you can sit on the balcony and just zone out to the sights and sounds of the ocean. I have no complaints about the customer service as everyone was friendly and we were able to get a late check out.
If you want to stop at the grocery store and get some snacks and drinks, there was a fridge, cabinet, and small countertop– a nice perk.
The hotel is in need of some serious updates, from carpet to ceiling. The lack of hooks in the bathroom was maddening.
.shower.poof! Is that so much to ask?
The framed print in the room had black mold under the glass from all the humidity. There was a lime green armchair in the room. Also, moist. You know what should be moist? Chocolate cake; not furniture. The hallway carpet was screaming for replacement between the dizzying pattern and the stains. I was waiting for «Redrum» to appear on the walls and creepy twins to appear in the long halls. Otherwise, it was a quiet stay in the Ramada. It served its purpose, but probably will stay elsewhere next visit to the OBX.

This was actually a nicer hotel than half of the other ones in the area. The service was friendly when we’re checking in. The lobby was nice and cute. When we got to our rooms, we were able to unpack and have a rest before going back out. The shower heads were a little strange. But the bathroom was clean and the hotel room it’s self was clean. The balcony was a bit scary I felt as if the guard rail could break at any time. The bed it’s self was ok, and there were not enough pillows. Which by the way were not very comfortable. The pool was a nice touch. Overall a nice trip.
I only have one major complaint, and that’s the restaurant inside the hotel. It was awful. The servers there were rude and lazy. I would have fired them if the worked for me. Awful. Not once did they check on us and not once did they even lift a finger into see what we needed. And when we finally flagged them down they acted as if they would rather be some were else. I think the Ramada needs to check into some training for these young ladies, or just restaff. I attached another review for the actual restaurant.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend @ the outer banks. We has a room with a hot tub which was a new experience to us. From the looks of the tub, I didn’t feel comfortable getting in without giving it a cleaning myself. I personally think the room was way overpriced for what it offers. The worst part about the whole trip was the hotel restaurant. We got a bed&breakfast package with our room which resulted in horrible service from the Peppercorn restaurant staff.
First, the wait was unbelievable (:30), just to get our menu which was a list of 5 basic breakfast items rather than the full menu. Once we were waited on, the waitress was not only rude about the wait but also misinformed about the menu.
We finally just got tired of waiting and like many tables that morning, simply got up and left.
The few hours on the beach made the trip memorable.

This Ramada worked out great for our trip and has some nice things going for it, but it is definitely not more than three stars.
The nice: Great view. It is literally right on the beach, with easy access. There is a big patio with chairs and hammocks facing the water (with a bar/​restaurant). It is in a good location on the island relative to a lot of things. The price was reasonable (~$ 110/​night with Priceline).
The not so nice: The bed was comfortable enough, but the mattress was in a U-​shape from sagging so much. The curtains covered approximately 60% of the window, so I had to use ancient Masonic techniques to prevent an early wake up. The bathroom was a bit Spartan.
We had a small balcony that faced the parking lot, but certainly some balcony is better than none. The pool and hot tub both smelled of urine/​chlorine, but they were there and never too crowded.
They were able to extend our reservation for a day at the same rate without issue, which I appreciated. But the quality of our interactions with the staff varied quite significantly. The restaurant deserved it’s own review.
Overall, it wasn’t the nicest place in the world, but I would definitely consider it as an option for a future visit.
