First Flight Rentals

We stayed at Croatan Surf Club. The location is convenient. We enjoyed the covered parking, elevators, heated pool, and beach gear storage. I’m docking the rating as the amenities do not match the advertising, the unit needed maintenance (lighbulbs, clogged drains, broken TVs, blinds that don’t open), and the internet was painfully slow. Additionally, the rental company doesn’t provide enough towels for the # of people that the unit sleeps (Our unit slept 6, but there were only 4 sets of towels. But I could pay extra $$ to get more if I wanted…)

After years of renting through other companies, we decided to try First Flight out. It’s been a disappointing experience and one we won’t repeat. The condo at the Croatan Surf Club is one we’ve stayed at before when it was under a different property management company. Therefore, we expected the same type of experience. Instead we got stained carpets, light bulbs that don’t work, tvs that don’t work, and a hot tub that needs to be replaced. When we tried to get these things resolved the management refused and went so far as to deny there were any problems in the first place. The crux of the issue is the pool service person said the hot tub couldn’t be fixed and needed to be replaced to rectify the barely functioning jets. First Flight’s response to that was to blame us as the customers and accuse us of lying. We could understand if the response had been they’re not going to replace the hot tub until the end of the season or maybe even an apology that it’s not working at full capacity. But to tell us we’re lying about what the pool service person told us was surprising and shocking. We’ve had nothing but positive experiences with Sun Realty and Village Realty. Highly recommend you check those companies out instead. Please don’t lose money like we did on a poorly maintained unit.

We loved our spring break vacation at Croatan Surf Club! It has wonderful amenities and the location is central to great restaurants and attractions. We enjoyed the peaceful off-​season beaches and can’t wait to go back when it is warmer! First Flight provided top notch service and the Croatan is a newer gorgeous condo with wonderful amenities like indoor/​outdoor pools & jacuzzis, a small gym, upgraded kitchen, jacuzzi on the deck w ocean views and nice décor. My only complaint is that the mattresses felt cheap and were uncomfortable… I would expect higher end mattresses in such a high quality condominium.

Be sure to double check the terms of your rental and your credit card statement after renting!
My husband and I rented one of the Waves condos in Rodanthe, NC back in August for our «babymoon». We wanted a quiet weekend get away with the two of us and our dog before our new baby arrived. When I booked the condo, we were waived the pet fee! (awesome)
While we were there, a girl stopped by to clean the hot tub. Being that I was 9 months pregnant, we told her that we were not going to use the hot tub and therefore didn’t want it to be cleaned while we were there. The manner in which she spoke to my husband and I was very rude. (But that is not what upset us the most.)
Apparently, when she contacted management to let them know that we were not allowing her to clean the hot tub, it was never noted that we were bringing a dog. So therefore, they proceeded to charge our credit card the pet fee without our permission. (NOT awesome.)
Upon checking my credit card balance a month later, I discovered the fee. When I called to question it, they apologized for not notating the account but I was told that it was too late to refund my credit card because «the money was already distributed to the owner of the condo». I entered into a transaction with First Flight Rentals (not the owner of the condo) so that is BS. I left a voice message for management to call me to discuss and heard back from anyone.

We tried to do a long New Years weekend with a 1^st floor unit. It was very nicely appointed and clean. It had a beautiful view of the sound. After we got settled we heard what we thought were workmen on the floor above us. Linoleum floors, no rugs. They were VERY noisy with their feet and voices. No sound protection. Well we quickly found out it was a number of couples moving in for the weekend. The noise was worse than I have heard in the cheapest hotel I have ever been in. The unit was dog friendly and the noise made our pup unbearably nervous. It was so bad I told my wife that it was not habitable and we had to leave. I came for quiet and relaxing weekend and this it was not. Numerous calls to the management have yet to be returned. We did in fact leave immediately and we found a very nice house a few blocks away, at 3 pm New Years Eve. Yep. We found someone that wanted our business and could provide peace and quiet. We would not recommend these people to anyone, nor would I consider returning.

First Flight is our first choice of rentals in the OBX. We love the location and the units are beautiful.

old and smelly rooms. needs update. couple of days before u get an email saying u need to bring ur coffe filter and bathroom tissue. they should inform from the begining that we provide only welcome kit. i have been renting condos and houses so many times and this is the first time experience.
manager is really rude. insults you. not sure how she has been on manager post for 20 years with this rudeness.

We stayed at the Waves Village Resort and the condo was very spacious and nicely decorated. Everything was very modern and clean. The management team was very receptive and quick to respond to a few issues. Would have liked a more comfortable mattress and a better equipped kitchen but we made due. Internet was spotty also.

Highly recommend this place. We stayed in unit 303 and it has plenty of room. The condo is located right on the beach. It has all the amenities I need which are a pool, Jacuzzi, fitness room, and free shady parking area. Parking is located under the property with easy access to the elevator. They even provide a push cart to help with the loading and unloading. And on top of that, this place provide a partly week rental which is PERFECT!!! We stayed for 3 nights and we had a wonderful time. The only negative comment I have is that the shower by the pool stinks. It needs a sulfur cleaning. Also, the pool area need lights at night.

Amazing location, right in the middle of outer Banks. Amenities are nice, but average– pool was not open when we were there (first week of April), and the game room only had two games… But who cares about that? Right on the ocean, amazing third-​story balcony view.
Our condo was very well stocked– we brought way more than needed. All dishes, knives and even wine openers were available. We also over packed on the good end. I searched grocery stores and got the impression there wasn’t much around– wrong! Food Lions on almost every corner, and most convenience stores are pretty well stocked. Save the space and pack light.
Great seashelling, lots to do on rainy days as well.
Overall, a restful, happy vacation for my husband and four year old son.

We stayed here mid September and at the end of October in 2014. Both times we really loved our stay. The first time, we were on the second floor in #19, and the second time we were in #31 on the top floor. I really can’t pin-​pont much of a difference. On the first floor we heard those above us a bit, but not enough to bother us or our 15 month old while he slept.
I found the management and staff to be beyond friendly. They went above and beyond for us. Chris who does it all at Waves Village is always there, and answers texts really fast.
My husband is a Kiteboarder, and there is no better place to stay to get to kite as much as possible during a trip to the OBX. Again, the helpful staff need a huge shout out. His harness got separated from his gear when he moved his kite after a long session on the water. A staff member noticed it immediately and picked it up, and held on to it. A few hours later, in a panic, my husband searched all over for the harness. He went over to ask in the shop, and sure enough, it was there. He was so relieved he hadn’t lost it and it hadn’t been stolen. There are so may other kiterboarders there to launch and land-​and he was able to find help each time.
We will definitely be back. As soon as possible!

Condo was awesome, wonderful views, spacious, clean, comfortable, great pool, exercise room, lots of parking, centrally located, loved it!

My fourth time at these condos. You can’t beat the location and the condos are pretty nice. I would have preferred a higher quality mattress with a pillow top but it was not the worst one I have ever slept on either. The kitchens are stocked differently. The one I am in right now is stocked pretty well. On day 2 we lost wi-​fi. Called the rental office (Village Realty) and they promised to send some one. They did but it was really a job for the internet company. We contacted the internet company and they sent someone the next day. We happened to be in when the technician arrived. We were in unit 318 but the router is in 314 and the «extender» is in 317. Luckily there were people in 314 and it turns out they had fiddled with the Ethernet cable so that THEY had service but not others. This unit (314) is run by another company so if it was empty or the people weren’t in, it would have been impossible to fix. Obviously this is not a good set up. The internet tech put an extender there since he couldn’t get in 317. Blah blah. Just annoying. In the midst of this we were getting mixed messages from Village Realty (too much detail to put here). Also, the door codes were not clear and some of the posted codes did not work. The lock on the storage unit in the garage was too rusty to open. This sounds like griping but while an overall descent experience, I am detecting a degradation in things from my first visit here about 3 years ago. I will probably go back to another nearby condo (Croatan Surf Club) next year and monitor reviews for FFR before coming back. I hope they keep this a nice place. Oh… the pool is nice and someone services it each morning. The pool furniture is in good condition too. Parking is plentiful but some signage is confusing. Charcoal grills were in good condition.

My wife and I had a unique opportunity to spend four weeks at the Outer Banks because I was the recipient of a clergy renewal grant. This meant a great deal of extensive research needed to be done to assure we had a great time and could comfortably be in one place for four weeks. Additionally, we wanted our two adult daughters to come and spend some time with us as well as my one daughter’s dog. We also wanted an ocean front location. Finding the ‘perfect’ spot was going to be a challenge.
I found First Flight and after a lot of discussion and planning we booked a condo here. The condo was second floor, which they assured us would give us an ocean view. It also had two bedrooms, two baths, and was pet friendly. Perfect, right? Well, yes, it was perfect, or as close to perfect as you can come.
We found the parking to be easy and there were carts that enabled us to bring our months’ worth of stuff to our second floor condo. And elevator from the parking area was helpful. We opened the door of the condo and it exceeded our expectations. It was well furnished and immaculately clean. The bedrooms are cozy and the living space is expansive. The kitchen was well equipped and we even had a small washer and dryer. And the view! We had two sliding glass doors with a very spacious balcony with lots of comfortable deck furniture as well as a large table.
The location of First Flight is really ideal. It is in walking distance or a short drive from a nifty convenience store, large grocery stores, shopping, churches, and Duck Doughnuts. Duck Doughnuts is about a 2 minute drive and makes you happy you are so close…
This condo was almost perfect. The imperfections were not that big a deal. The WIFI is not all that great. It worked, but it wasn’t all that great. Of course, the facility is built to withstand hurricanes so the walls are thick thus weakening the signal. It was, however, good enough. The pool area was great and I loved how part of it was in the shade. We enjoyed the pool and the hot tub. I was disappointed, however, that the pool was not heated as advertised. We came in mid-​May and it was too cold to swim for the first week we were here. Brr.
Beach access was great and having a lifeguard on the beach was wonderful.
The only big negative we had about First Flight was leaving! Talk about a wonderful facility and this is it. The customer service and people on the phone were excellent to deal with. I spoke a lot with Michelle from First Flight and she is one outstanding employee.
Great experience and a great vacation. I highly recommend this location if you want to have fun at the Outer Banks!
