RC Theatres

Didn’t get any food, everyone on Unilocal complained about the décor. Whiners, I thought it was fine. Seats were comfortable, arm rests move, that’s cool. Screen was good. I used the auto kiosk outside, quick and easy! Will visit again!

Well, for the second time now — in as many visits, we made the hour and fifteen minute (or more as this time was in summer traffic!) ride up from our home on Hatteras Island for a movie, this time was my wife and myself on a «movie and early dinner date», we arrived at the theater 45 minutes before the movie started as I like to get there plenty early to get the exact seat that I like in the theater. We were greeted by a line that wrapped around the corner and down one side of the theater as it was a rainy day and it seems that everybody with a kid, or groups of 5 – 10 kids, were going to the movie, not that big a deal we just waited in the car a little while until closer to the time of our movie. The rain stopped and we got in line, only to wait about 10 minutes or so, upon getting to the ticket window we asked for 2 tickets to the movie we came to see, only to be told «I’m sorry, we canceled that showing», and the next one wasn’t for another 4 hours! Now granted, we were going to see «Jungle Book» and it has been out for a while, but the last time we came here was for «Star Wars» and it had only been out for a week or so, at least that time the next showing was in an hour. Both times that this has happened I checked their website repeatedly for the showtime, including before we left the house to make the drive up there, and this time while I was in the parking lot before we got in line! Still showed the time we wanted to see the movie, no sign on the window of the ticket booth, still showed the time on the sign on the wall of the building and everything. You can do better than this! I know that this theater is the «only game in town» and therefore gets away with higher prices, pretty outdated décor, so-​so popcorn, and not-​so-​clean bathrooms, but I am getting tired of driving 60 miles to see a movie only to find out it has been canceled! The first time we just waited an hour for the next showing, this time we left — so much for our «movie and dinner» date, instead it became a «late lunch and some shopping» date. You’ve got me twice now, but 3 strikes and you’re out! Next time it happens will be the last time I step foot in there I already drive over an hour to get there, I will just drive the additional 45 minutes into Virginia to go to the Cinema Café — which everybody that I have talked to that has been there has absolutely loved it!
Poor form RC Theaters, poor form!

Took my son to see a movie on a Tuesday morning for the first showing. No matinée prices. «Gauge the tourists» is their motto, charging $ 9 per ticket. For a morning movie. That I hated. $ 18 wasted. Never again.

My wife and I visited OBX for our 2^nd anniversary, and decided to go see Deadpool one afternoon. Of course, the only theater in the area was this one, so this is where we went.
First off, I will say, the movie experience itself was… well, it was fine. It wasn’t anything mind-​blowing. The seats were comfortable, the screen was average, the sound was decent. It was… fine. Based on the movie-​going experience alone, I’d probably give it a 3 or 4 star.
However, the two things that made me knock off stars:
1. I get that things in OBX are a little slower. Fashion, design, and tech trends don’t tend to hit OBX in the way they hit the majority of the country. Wood paneling, floral sofas, and glass blocks still seem to be the hotness around here. That said, this place looked like it hasn’t had a facelift since 1993. Bright pink neon lights, old, repurposed game machines dealing out iPod knockoffs… it just made me feel like this place wasn’t cared for.
2. My wife and I were starving when we went, but we didn’t really want popcorn. We ordered some chicken tenders and pizza. Yes, it was overpriced, but we were at a movie theater, so that’s to be expected. However, that had to have been the worst food I’ve eaten since the elementary school cafeteria. And it was obvious they didn’t have the facilities (save for one small microwave) to make anything, as it took close to 15 minutes (I’m glad we were early for our movie!). However, don’t promote your pizza as a round-​style pizza that looks one way, and serve me up a square slice of something that’s practically grey. Or your chicken tenders in a light that makes them look crispy when they’re really just… well… microwaved.
We’ll come back here if we’re ever in the area again and want to catch a movie (mainly because there is no other option), but we’ll certainly skip on the food.

Overall I suppose this isn’t all that bad of theatre but then again if you want something multi-​screen and something that even closely resembles a modern approach to movie going this is more or less the only game in town or in the area especially in winter.
First let me say that compared to most entitled people/​Yelpers I’m fairly easy to please + I’m very old school.
* I don’t care about or need reserved seating as for me at home no theatre has this and likely in the near future none will be doing this so no biggie.
* I don’t care about or need electric reclining seats for the same reason as above plus as long as the seat reclines back a bit I’m good.
* I don’t care about whether I need to wait in line for a minute or two for tickets as I’m not that precious that it bothers me. It’s called I’ll take some personal responsibility and show up a few minutes early so that I know I’ll make the start time for the previews/​commercials with ease.
* I don’t care about integrating a Fandango app or whether or not this place accepts electronic ticketing since I don’t believe in smart phones and I’m perfectly fine with that.
So with all that out of the way, this was standard movie watching 101.
* Bought tickets outside about fifteen minutes in advance.
* Bought one concession of pretzel bites which are made/​nuked to order so if you want this give yourself a few extra minutes.
* The theatre was maybe ¹⁄₃ full so seating was a breeze and the seats had the typical stadium recline to them so that was all good.
* Screen + sound were perfect.
* $ 9 per person for a matinée was a bit steep but it beat the $ 11 full price.
Overall the RC chain is a small mouse fart that doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a Regal or of a Carmike but they get the job done.
(As a small anecdote, the last time I went to an RC Theatre location in Frostburg, MD it closed about three weeks later.)

They had a military discount which was great. We went to see «Star Wars: The Force Awakens». It was good – typical theater. We bought a small popcorn and the cheeseburger sliders. There wasn’t a lot to the sliders, but the popcorn with the butter was good. Overall it was good.

I think it’s stupid to buy tickets at the food court but oh well. The seats were comfortable and bathroom was clean and that’s all I can ask for at a movie theater — LOL!

The theater floor could use a good cleaning for sure. The employees we nice and friendly.

From the outside, the theater appears to be in need of some work. The Fandango ticket kiosk wasn’t working & the outside ticket counter was closed. We went in to get our tickets at the concession counter — strange but it was okay. Comfy seats, clean concession area. The theaters needs some updating. But overall it was a pleasant experience. Good theater!

We just saw Home. I enjoyed the show because it was the right decibel level for everyone. Many movie theaters now turn the volume up so loud it takes away from the movie.
The seats were comfortable and the place was very clean.
We had a very nice time.

Prices were $ 10/​person, including my 4-​year old for a matinée. Popcorn and ice cream sandwich-​$ 35.
It was clean and not crowded, even on a rainy day.
Gave them a four because I left my sunglasses and they located and called me to let me know.
Overall, a good experience.

I thought this theater was pretty clean and comfortable. The seats in the theater were very nice.

Not the nicest theater I’ve ever seen, but the seats are comfy enough and they show enough current movies to be worth it. They fill out the need for any beach trip, a movie for a rainy day.
I do have one question though, why do they stamp the hands of guests under 21? They don’t even serve alcohol! We asked someone who worked at the concession stand, and he didn’t even know! I think it’s just a strange policy…

$ 50 for two kids and two adults??? Are you kidding me! No wonder nobody goes to the movies anymore. These guys are out of their minds. They charged $ 12 for my 3 year old girl. Forget it. Last time at the movies for us.

Has a nice selection of films but the quality of the theatre is sub-​par.
I go to the theatre about every other week and find that certain theatre rooms have really good sound while others have ones where speech is drowned out by music. Not sure how sound setups work, but something is not equalized right when I struggle to hear people talk but then have my ears blown when a background track is played. Also, the theater rooms are not too well insulated, allowing you to hear the base and noise from the next door movies.
I also hate our 3d projectors as they have a slight blur at the bottom of the screen. This blur is especially noticeable during sub titles and credits. At first I believed the projector was out of focus, but for the past year, all their 3d films have had this issue.
The movie food is yummy, especially the nachos with cheese and jalapeños! Plus they have White Castle burgers, so that adds a star right there.
All in all, it’s an ok theatre and it’s also the only megaplex on the island, so it’s not like you have a choice if you want to see a film on the big screen.

Not super fancy, but good picture and sound with stadium seating (at least in some theaters.). Only knock is that the box office is outside, so I wouldn’t want to come on a rainy day.

A pretty average movie theater overall, but they have online ticketing via Fandango and stadium seating. It’s easily the nicest movie theater on the OBX. When we went they were even showing a couple 3D flicks, so they’re trying to stay up on current movie trends. All in all, not a bad place to see a movie when you’re vacationing at the beach.

The only theater in KDH. It’s decent enough. Few games in the lobby. Seats are on the small side. Stadium seating, digital projection.
IMHO, it’s definitely an evening/​rainy day entertainment option!
