McGrath’s Irish Pub

Owen is the best guy! This is a super nice sport. They have a good selection of beer and wines. Save room for desert. The apple pie is delicious.

This is an awesome Irish Pub where the bartender will shake your hand and even ask you for your name. They mix Guniess with another beer and somehow put the mark of an Irish clover in the beer foam.
Its very cozy, with lots of funny signs on the walls. You can also sit down and eat.
Definitely check out this place if you are skiing in Vermont!

Ambiance is cozy, warm, and Irish. Staff were super friendly and attentive. Food was perfect! I couldn’t decide between the Irish stew and corned beef and cabbage so I got both. Yummy and very satisfying! It’s very likely that I’ll be back tomorrow night!

Live band was fun and engaging, staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and you can tell the people who work here care. Excellent place for a drink, dinner and although I did not stay here for bed and breakfast, I heard nothing but good things.

Fantastic staff! Owen was a great server and Showed us around the place. Food was good and just what we were on the mood for. Would definitely go again.

How I have never checked in here before is a wonder. I have been eating and drinking here every year for almost 10 years on a yearly MTB trip. What is there really to write when the review is 5 stars. Night 1 get the stew! Night 2 get the Shepherds Pie with a side of stew or a side of stew gravy or the stew again. Sometimes life is tough. You better like traditional Irish music. Anyplace this good and this charming is going to get crowded. Small, cozy, simple and great.

Great bar service. Great pub food. Nachos were good, but never had them with salsa on before. Shredded chicken would of been better than the small cubes of chicken which we received especially for the added cost. French onion soup was excellent and burning HOT when it was served. Irish stew another big +. Husband had Rueben. Would definitely recommend and do a return visit again. Close to Killington VT ski area.

Great food! Had the turkey melt and it was delicious! There was apple butter on the Irish soda bread, along with turkey, melted cheese, and apple slices. Lots of great flavors. Cozy atmosphere and quick service.

This past weekend was my first in Killington and I was there with my BF and 2 of our friends. On our first night there we were trying to decide what to eat and wanted something a bit low key. I turned to my trusty friend, Unilocal,and discovered McGrath’s. No one had heard of it and they had all been to Killington previously. We decided to give it a shot and are glad we did! There is a pub portion with open seating (no reservations) and a more formal dining room. The pub is more casual and has live music so we waited about 10 minutes for a table to clear in this area. The menu has some irish classics (shepherd’s pie, stew) and more American classics (patty melt, burgers) — something for everyone. I had read that each Guinness comes with a shamrock on the head so I went with this. It is small touches like this that I often remember. I decided to go with a rueben and my BF got the Irish Chili. We started with spuds topped with vermont cheddar and tomatoes. The spuds still had most of the potato inside (not just a crispy fried piece of skin). Everyone enjoyed their meal — no complaints. The food is very good — steps above your standard «bar fare». For dessert (which my BF can’t skip) we shared a bailey’s cheesecake with maple crust. It wasn’t too heavy for a cheesecake and split between 4 gave each person a couple of sweet bites to end the meal. My BF and I were just in Ireland this past November and the service and vibe of this pub brought us back to Dublin. I definitely recommend checking out McGrath’s!

This is a nice little pub in town. We kind of passed it by at first because it is inside of an Inn. Once we walk inside it’s really old school irish pub very cozy and welcoming. We had two soups two sandwiches and a couple of beers. My lady had French onion soup which was really good and I had some type of Apple squash soup which was okay almost like apple sauce but it was different. I had an Irish Ruben which was great it was the perfect amount. They had live entertainment that was ok he would tell some jokes from time to time to keep the crowd engaged. Overall it’s a really cozy place especially in the winter time when it’s cold outside.

Great bar built right into the mountain. Rocks to sit on in the bar area and tables made of local wood. Stew was delicious. Wine leaves a bit to be desired. The kids play room is 80s theme=nothing digital! Sitting by the fireplace with good friends and a nice drink while I write this. Looking forward to my next visit already.

This place seems to be hit-​or-​miss. We heard about it from Jan Leitschuh’s book «The Ordinary Adventurer» and decided to stop by while we were in the area on a long weekend. Our first visit to the pub was awesome. We LOVED it (even though we couldn’t get a seat). We stood near the bar, ordered food (great) and drinks (also great). The Guinness came with an unexpected foam shamrock (delightful touch) and the staff, Owen and Bob, were extremely efficient and friendly. Bob in particular was pourin’ Guinness and makin’ shamrocks like nobody’s business. They seemed to make a point of asking/​remembering folks’ names which, of course, was welcoming and pleasant. We raved about what a great time we had well into the next day. And yes, folks — we even bought the shirts.
Well, we decided to go back the next evening — and the second visit wasn’t so great. We couldn’t get a seat, Again. Their seating is super-​confusing and creates unnecessary tension among what would otherwise be friendly, warm patrons. We saw a table open up and went for it, only to be shooed away by Owen who didn’t remember us or our names — and had told some other group they could have it. So much for the chummy feel. (As far as seating goes, jungle rules apply, but apparently not all the time.) Eventually we sat at the bar, but between a long day biking the Vermont mountains and the cold reception — the spark was pretty much gone. The shepherd’s pie was okay, but unremarkable. In fact, I kind of regretted buying the shirt the day before. (Silly, but true.)
In conclusion: check it out… once. The bar itself is cozy, adorably kitsch-​y, and unique. But be patient and don’t expect to get a seat. Owen and Bob are true professionals, but don’t expect them to actually remember your faces or names. If you go in expecting a little less than we did the second time, you won’t be disappointed.
P. S. O’Shaugnessy is hilarious and a great singer. I wish I’d bought his CD while I was there.

Just stopped in for a pint and an appetizer. I had the potato skins with bacon and cheese; and, the wife had the French onion soup. Both were accompanied by a pint of Guinness. Might have been a little pricey for the pints, but everything was top notch. Friendly and efficient bar staff.

My favorite place for a drink pretty much on earth. I was born and raised in Rutland, vt, and have been to many other places across the globe and now live outside NYC. But I hAve yet to find a pub/​restaurant with the «charm» and rustic feel of this place. It’s built into the side of a mountain, has a few boulders for tables, rock ledge for several walls, has Gaelic bands on the weekends and Owen makes excellent drinks. He also puts the shamrock on your head of Guinness. The shepherds pie is great too. A great place to chill out with some brews forget about life for a while.

Very comfortable — both decoration and people were nice and homey. Seems very popular with the multi day hiking crowd. We had veggie & dip (simple yet yum) and their version of potato skins. Good. Lots of historical photos on the wall. If we were around at night I would definitely go for the live music.

Really enjoyed our visit. All the food ordered was delicious, but I screwed up in not ordering the stew, which is their specialty. I had the onion soup, which was fine.
Fun place, we watched a Word Cup match there.

At first you think you’re walking into a motel. you are, don’t worry, turn to your left once inside and there you are. Worth a visit!

Was in Rutland on business and did not feel like another chain restaurant, the hotel suggested this place. Really good meal and good music, and a huge dose of charm, and good service which was surprising considering how packed the place was on a Saturday night– the waitress was running from table to table and still managing to smile. It would be hard to do any better on short notice, will come here again next chance I get.

After a good powder day nothing better than a good pint if Guinness some killer French onion soup and some really good soda bread, top shelf!

I can’t get enough of this Irish Pub!
We recently visited McGrath’s and can’t say that we were disappointed. We went as a group to visit the pub for a friends birthday, and were excited to see that they had live music. We thought that we would go for a quick dinner, but ended up closing the pub. The music was great but the food and drinks were even more spectacular.
I had the French Onion Soup and Corned Beef and Cabbage, and found them both to be prepared perfectly. Some of the other group favorites were the «Paddy» Melt and Shepherd’s Pie. The prices were a little high, but when taking into consideration the atmosphere and entertainment, I think that it was well worth it!
The other amazing part of this Pub is the fact that it is housed in such a spectacular building. The way that they incorporated the mountain side into their pub and hotel is amazing, and the history of the hotel is interesting as well!
