History

Established in 1980.

Relocated to it’s present location in 1987, Meredith’s Country Bakery found it’s niche market attending farm markets throughout the Hudson Valley, NYC, Northern NJ, and SW Conn. We produce over 200 all natural and organic baked goods in addition to a full line of guten free selections from our separate baking facility. We are currently refurbishing our retail sales space.

Very reasonably priced (at least when I visited their booth at the Queens Botanical Garden’s Farmer Market Fridays) and delicious! I bought the cranberry biscotti, the chocolate smelt biscotti, their specialty breads, their quick breads. And all were delicious (the only disappointment was their smelt bread which tasted bland and watery and their scones which tasted doughy and undercooked). Their ingredients are fresh and interesting and above all healthy while very reasonably priced. I am a fan!

I have never been to Kingston, NY. For all I know, it could be a post-​apocalyptic nuclear wasteland, a cesspool of diseases and zombies just waiting to eat your brains out. Regardless, Kingston, NY is Shangri-​La to me because it is the home of Meredith’s Bread.
Thanks to NYC’s extensive Greenmarket system, I’ve had the luxury of enjoying MB’s baked treats from any number of farmers markets all year long. Most especially, I’ve been able to eat my weight in their Chocolate Lace cookies. How do I begin to describe the Chocolate Lace? It’s light and delicate (like lace, ho ho!), partially covered in delicious milk chocolate, and made from a batter of what I can only imagine is fairy’s milk and magical nuts, plucked from Mother Nature’s own personal garden. It is so good, so crisp, so sweet – one bite is enough to make you smile, one box is enough to make you drunk on happiness.

I feel like I missed out on something. I tried Meredith’s Bread at the new Military Park market in Newark. The sugar cookie I sampled was OK for a sugar cookie (not a sugar cookie fan), so I picked up challah rolls and a large chocolate chip cookie. I tried a little of both back at the office. The cookie was OK, not as chewy as I hoped. The challah rolls are ‘hallah dry and way too firm for fresh bread. They are going to have to be toasted, made into french toast or bread pudding. I’d give them another chance because I’m glad to see a bakery at the market but not convinced yet.

Just got the gluten free rosemary olive bread at a farmers market in NJ. Wow. It is a struggle not to eat the whole loaf in one sitting. It’s so moist and you can’t even tell it’s gluten free. Can’t wait to try their other gluten free products.

I picked up an apple-​raspberry pie at the Plattekill Thruway stop, and so glad I did! It is delicious, and made with the best ingredients. It has the perfect balance of tart and sweet — but thank goodness not too sweet. I searched online and noticed Meredith’s goods are sold in the NYC vicinity — this has made my day!

Picked up a black/​white cookie today from the Meredith’s Bakery tent at the Bowling Green Greenmarket and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice buttery cookie, smooth (not whipped) chocolate frosting, hint of lemon in the vanilla — just lovely.
Other items I plan on trying: cheddar scones, pumpkin cookies, and the chocolate chip muffins. All look delish, and cost less than $ 3.
$ 2.50 for a 6″ cookie (Oatmeal and Chocolate Chip also available).
Market open at Bowling Green Tuesday/​Thursdays.

I recently tried Meredith’s Bread for the first time yesterday at the Queens County Fair and oh man, am I in love! The oatmeal raison cookies and raspberry nut bars are delicious. I will definitely be looking for them again around Queens.

meredith’s bread comes near my work place and i like getting baked goods from them for breakfast. they have a very good selection of pies, cookies, muffins, scones, etc. i’ve tried their muffins (blueberrry [good!], banana nut [too sweet, but i did find huge chunks of bananas in it, awesome!]), cranberry walnut scone (more dense, muffin-​like than crumbly, english-​style. it has lots of dried cranberries and huge chunks of walnuts mixed in), and i also picked up the raspberry fruit bar to try today. the pies looked tempting as well, the large ones go for $ 11 i believe.
the lady at the booth is super sweet and i really enjoyed all the stuff i got from them, they’re usually not-​too-​sweet, and filled with lots of fruits and nuts. for only $ 2, you can get a freshly-​made, huge, and super-​filling breakfast? now that’s a treat.

Love all of their stuff! I have tried so many gluten free products in the past and had a really hard time getting it down. This wasn’t the case at Meredith’s, everything that I had was delicious. I also tried their strawberry rhubarb pie and I can’t get enough! I would definitely recommend them to everyone!

Cannot say enough great things about Meredith’s Bread. I have enjoyed so many of their goodies, from pot pies and quiches to their breads & sweets, and have never tasted anything I do not like. My husband and I love their products so much, we have added several of their (gluten free) products to our dessert menu at Ship to Shore Restaurant in Kingston. A+

I recently had Meredith’s Bread for the first time at the Bowling Green Farmers Market. Her selection is what caught my eye, at first. Turnovers, pastries, cookies, muffins, cake. Everything!
I bought a brownie with walnuts, mixed rugelach, and bread stuffed with spinach, feta, tomato, and honey. The brownie was amazing and not too sweet, which I liked. The rugelach was not sweet at all, which was awesome. The bread was very yummy and left me wanting more. All that for $ 10.50 really isn’t all that bad. I can’t wait to try some more of these yummy goodies.

I must have had some bread from a bad batch or something because the blueberry banana bread I got from the «Broadway French Market» was dense, dry and unflavorful. I’ll give them another shot and hopefully get to update my review but for now they get 2-​stars from me.

It’s hard for me to find gluten free goodies that my dad will like but he loves everything from Meredith’s. They are a vendor at the Closter Farmers Market and I go every weekend to make sure my dad gets his fix. I also really like their zucchini bread (not gluten free).

Meredith’s Bread comes to a bi-​weekly farmer’s market a block away from where I work at Bowling Green (literally right outside of the 4⁄5 subway station). There’s another bakery there that offers gluten-​free products, but I decided to try some of Meredith’s Bread’s products for a change. The cookies are a little bit dry, but I’ve pretty much come to expect that for products using rice flour instead of whole wheat flour. Their taste was delicious! I wish they had had some more chocolate chips in them. The gluten-​free pumpkin bread, though, is the BEST I’ve had in a long, long time — including the ones I had before having to make the GF switch! It’s a perfect blend of sweet and pumpkin, and the texture is ridiculously good. Tastes like the real stuff!

Meredith’s Bread can be accessed in local green markets as I was able to attain a small $ 7.00 apple pie at Tompkins Square Green Market in New York’s Alphabet City every Sundays year round. Homemade apple pie was splendid, but the associate at their booth was visibly apathetic and robotic to take payment without the subtle sway invitation to their Kingston, NY farm.

I pick up the goodies during the Tuesday Farmer’s Market down in Zucotti Park (which is now overrun with the Wall Street protestors). I haven’t been down to the park for a few weeks now, and I’ve been craving the baked goodies.
I really appreciate the fact that the bakers use local, fresh ingredients, and that the ingredients are listed on the packaging. I’ve had everything from their cookies to their mini cakes to their muffins to their biscottis. I love them all. I just wish the calorie counts came with the cakes so I know when to stop eating!
I was going to pick up dog treats for a friend, but she noted that the dog treats were made with molasses, which aren’t really that conducive to K-​9 health. Hopefully the bakers can get the dog treats veterinarian approved.

Update: Still amazing. I started getting their cherry pies because they use REAL, fresh cherries in the pies and they taste amazing. The little breads are so good too, and finally tried the biscotti, which is more soft and chewy than the traditional rock-​hard Italian biscotti.

Everything I’ve had from Meredith’s is top notch. The spinach feta pocket — usually a hit or miss item elsewhere — was fantastic. The crumbles are incredibly good, and my boyfriend loved the bacon cheddar broccoli mini quiche. Their crust is amazing, and they have a few vegan items as well.
