The Cross Kirkland Corridor — a beautiful trail-in-progress — snakes along an old rail line. It leads from Totem Lake all the way down to Houghton. On the path, you can wander through a sea of trees, catch glittering glimpses of the lakeshore, and spy on Google headquarters. The trail has certainly evolved. Once the city leveled the path, and got rid of the big pebbles that ate up my ankles, it went from 4 to 5 stars in my book.

This trail was built on the old railroad right of way and provides trail access for runners, walkers and bikers all the way from the South Kirkland park and ride up to the Totem lake area. I’d like to see them connect this to the Sammamish river trail, but it doesn’t go that far quite yet. This trail is popular, and crosses several city streets so be careful out there.
