Patrick was born and raised in the state of WA. He received his undergraduate degree from UW in 1974. In 1980 he graduated with honors from Gonzaga School of Law. At Gonzaga he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Gonzaga Law Review.
Patrick’s first law job was working as a Law Clerk for Chief Judge James A. von der Heydt of the United States Federal District Court for the District of Alaska. Patrick worked for Judge von der Heydt as his law clerk from 1980 to 1982. In Alaska, Patrick passed the Alaska Bar exam in 1981. He also published an article that became the lead article in the UCLA Alaska Law Review.
Patrick returned to Kirkland, WA where he worked as an Associate for the law firm of Livengood, Silvernale, Carter & Tjossem. During this time, Patrick was admitted to practice in the United States Federal District Court for the District of Western Washington. Patrick started his own law firm in 1985 in Kirkland. This law firm, Trudell & Bowen, evolved into the present law firm, KTBL.
