The Market St

The service is top-​knotch — my husband and I were greeted/​seated immediately and our waiter was extremely attentive and friendly. The kitchen must be a little disorganized, because it took over 30 minutes to receive our food. However, we came at the height of dinner hour and the restaurant was 75% full. Overall the meal was good, but not mind-​blowing. My husband ordered the ultimate brisket sandwich and subbed the fries for the soup of the day (chicken noodle), and I had the market club sandwich. Portions were huge (they do not skimp on the meat!), but everything was a little too salty in general. For those who have kids, this place seems to be very kid-​friendly.

I’ve been here for happy hour and for dinner, and enjoyed it both times. It’s a little spendy for the portions (my husband’s a big eater). Or maybe it seems spendy for simple American fare, I dunno; but it IS tasty and not too expensive. The location is convenient and it’s nice to go for happy hour or dinner and avoid the traffic heading home from work.

Ordered the Breakfast Toast– perfect portion size for lighter appetites and priced appropriately. Could be a little more generous on the fruit but it was very fresh. Nice sage flavor on the breakfast toast. Friendly service.

My friend from Kirkland told me about this place, and I’m glad she did because the food and service was awesome. We sat out on the patio where they allow dogs, and will provide a water bowl for the furry babies.
My boyfriend ordered the Turkey Club Sandwich and I had the Cobb Salad. Since we came for happy hour the well drinks were less than five bucks. I ordered a vodka-​soda and the server told me that the place makes their own infused vodka-​sodas and when I went, it was lavender-​lemon, which I had to try. And it was very good! The flavor was really strong yet not overpowering at all. It was definitely the nicest smelling vodka-​soda I’ve ever had!
My Cobb Salad was gigantic. The freshly cubed chicken was a good portion, along with half an avocado and a hard-​boiled egg. I especially liked the cucumber slices, which added some coolness to it. I’m a fan of cobb salads, and it was one I would get again. My boyfriend found his Turkey Club Sandwich to be on the better side of ones he’s had before, yet didn’t like how much mayo was on it. The portion is large, too, and it’s easy to share with someone else, which is what two of my friends did (who had recommended the Turkey Club). The fries were bomb, with a lot of garlic flavor.
I’d love to come back and try something different. Glad my friend told me about this place because I wouldn’t have found it otherwise.

The food here is DELICIOUS! I have been two times and everything on the menu looks so good!!! Everything I have had is great quality and flavorful! The food does take a while to come out, but that almost adds to the experience because you know they are spending time with each order instead of rushing around and sending out bad quality food. This is my new favorite restaurant in Kirkland!!!

We had a party of 8 on Sat. night @ 6:15. First time. Surprisingly, they were able to seat us right away. We have wanted to try it out based on the reviews. Restaurant was full consistently while we were there. Menu selection was small, but there was something for everyone. There were 3 menus (regular, specials and bar?) so it was confusing as each had slightly different items.
Décor is simple. Not very noisy. Nice casual place.
Appetizers: BBQ wings (4), caprese flatbread, tomato and fried green beans
Entrees: Turkey club, handmade pasta, ultimate brisket, bar burger, beef stroganoff and chipotle burger
Burgers and sandwich were served with amazing garlic, Parmesan fries. Food was wonderful. Great flavors. Pastas were handmade and perfect. Entrée portions are good, but apps were small for the price.
Service was good as there were several staff that covered our table. Our server was quick to greet the table. Food came out right and drinks were filled. Only negative was the food took awhile to come out… even apps. so I gave it 4 stars. Food was really good though. Definitely will be back.

I really wanted to like this place since my husband & I live down the street.
There were 6 things I was not impressed with:
1) overpriced. See my picture of the $ 4 shot glass of fruit.
2) not accurate– see pic of the h «montecristo».
3) limited menu. Im not sure what they specialize In but they have about 5 items on their brunch menu.
4) seemed disorganized. We didn’t know who the host was or our server.
5) food took over 30 min. We ordered simple items like eggs & French toast. The restaurant was half full of people.
6) the coffee cups were 25 cent garage sale mugs. I guess… If you’re into that…
I think this place might be better as a bar or happy hour place… I would *not* recommend it for brunch.
2 positive things: the décor is cute & you can sit outside.

I recently noticed The Market St driving through Kirkland the other day and decided to check it out with my boyfriend for dinner tonight. First off, everything about this restaurant is amazing: From the quant and chill atmosphere, the friendly wait staff, and the outstanding quality of dishes. I ordered the handmade pasta and my boyfriend had the brisket sandwich, which he devoured in a heart beat. I couldn’t believe how fresh the ingredients in my pasta dish were and especially loved the touch of goat cheese and roasted tomatoes. We both fell in love with the skinny garlic fries that came with the brisket sandwich which are handcut in house every day. This place is perfect for every occasion: Meeting up with friends, eating with family, or going on a date. The prices are very reasonable for what you get and definitely a reason for me to want to return for brunch, happy hour, and dinner!

*this is a true story*
I have to say… This is THE WORST restaurant I’ve ever been to!!! Honestly the reviews they have currently must be paid reviews or family/​friends of the owner (s)!!
1. 7:15pm we sit down. No water, no menus
2. 7:45pm the waitress come around and take our 1^st order – drinks. We as customers have to ask for water and menus. I brought a bottle of wine in and left it on the table, she did not even acknowledge it.
3. 8:15pm drinks arrive and finally she take our food orders. We begin to order and asked basic questions like: what type of noodles are in the pasta and stroganoff & how many ounces are in the flat iron steak. She literally said and I quote, «I don’t know. I’ve have been here since the beginning and I have never been asked any of these questions.» At that point I mention that I brought in a bottle of wine (that had been sitting on the table). Then I’m informed that they have run out of wine glasses, and I quote «that big party is hogging all the wine glasses.»
4. 8:20pm lady comes back with dripping wet wine glasses. I had to use my one allotted paper napkin to dry my wine glass out. As I was cleaning it and looking for watermarks – she asked if there was something wrong with the wine glass (in a very rude way). I told her no to be polite (but obviously there was something wrong and you obviously don’t give a wet glass to a customer).
5. 8:45pm more drinks arrive and one person in our party places an order of potstickers – which she said «would take 10 minutes and would come out with our dinner” – at this point we still have not received appetizers.
6. 9:10pm appetizers arrive (no pot stickers). Brussels sprouts were the highlight of the night. BBQ sliders were good.
7. 9:20pm dinner arrives… No pot stickers. we ordered the following: grilled cheese, beef stroganoff, handmade pasta, bbq pork sandwich, brisket sandwich. Everything was bland… Except the grilled cheese… which by the way I hope they would never mess that up (because it’s nearly impossible to do so). The fries were the only things that had flavor. It was horrible! I could not believe that I had been reading these «raving reviews» about this place. Serious such lies!
8. 9:40pm we are finished with our meals and the waiter comes by and asks «who ordered the potstickers?» Everyone looked at each other in confusion. Finally someone said well yeah I ordered that but i was told it would come with my dinner. So I told the waiter to send it back and that no one wants it now… We are done with dinner! Then the waitress comes back and said, «pot stickers for dessert?» and then laughs and then blames the kitchen. She then says as last parting statement «I don’t know what the kitchens’ problem is tonight.»
9. 9:42pm waitress comes back and says «we’re going to take the potstickers off the bill»… (No words can describe my feeling at this point) I said well of course it is, we sent it back.
10. 9:45pm waitress brings bills and we ask if she can split it up. She sighed and said «yeah, but it’s gunna take awhile.» Note: there is nobody in the restaurant at this point.
11. 9:50pm we get the bill back (the bill is wrong) and then we are asked repeatedly if we want water… How ironic when the check comes we finally get asked if we want water… THREE times!!! Then after we sign the bills she takes them from us immediately afterward! It was the weirdest thing!!!
Honestly I have worked in the restaurant industry for 7 years, and I cannot believe how horrible the market street is!
Good thing they have happy hour from 4pm to 2am because that is the ONLY thing paying the bills!!!
Worst money spent! Ever! Huge disappointment…

It’s too bad they don’t hire more staff. We waited to be seated for quite a while even though tables were open. Then, once seated, 10 minutes passed before anybody came by to even say hello or offer coffee or water (it was Sunday breakfast). It’s a cute place and the menu is solid American standard fare — a nice neighborhood place. But the service tho!

I arranged a casual business dinner the other night. I started on the bar side and we decided to stay there for dinner. Our server was definitely overwhelmed with the amount of people so service was slow. She was super nice, but it added to our delay. Wine menu is very weak. I would recommend they actually invest some money in a real wine menu which would enhance their appeal and bottom line. Food was ok. Seemed pre-​made, but wasn’t horrible… pretty much expected for a casual place like this. Great watering hole and a place for appetizers and then move on from there.

It’s rare that week over week, we are not disappointed. Megan and crew (a shout out to Jennifer and Evan) take wonderful care of us. None of this matters if the food does not shine: the food shines. Amazing consistently yummy dishes.

We finally checked out The Market St last night and it was delicious! It looked like happy hour was just ending in the bar when we arrived as there were quite a few people in the bar but the restaurant side had plenty of seating. The staff was warm and friendly throughout our evening. They were happy to discuss the menu (seemed excited by it even, which makes eating more fun in my mind) and made no fuss about some food accommodation requests. At first glance I thought it was a burger/​sandwich joint. However the menu items are not your basic bar food. We started with their house fries — crispy shoestring fries with garlic and parmesan — which we devoured in minutes. Then we tried a few things including their brussels sprouts (crispy and flavorful), beet salad, pasta special and the beef stroganoff (made with beef brisket and so delicious and comforty). They make their own everything from the pasta to the beef brisket to the ginger-​ale and we were pretty much delighted with every bite. We will be back soon and often!

We keep trying to like this place and have given it soooo many chances since we live right up the street, but tonight took the cake. Service has always been touch and go in the dining room, but tonight was over the top and the food was horrible too. Our waitress was about as friendly as dry toast, and kept blaming her horrible service on having a bad ankle. Totally understand having an issue with an ankle or foot, but it took 15 mins for 2 iced teas and she forgot to bring our daughter’s apple juice, 35 minutes for our food and then another 10 minutes after dishes were cleared before we had to track her down for our bill. In the past the food had made up for the slow service, but not this time. When the food got to our table both of our steaks were cold and dry and not cooked to temp at all. I am guessing this was the last straw and we won’t be back.

I eat here over and over again because it’s great ever time! I’ve never had anything remotely bad. Food presentation, flavor, portion size are all spot on and priced right. Megan and her staff are fantastic, welcoming and attentive. Hands down one of the best spots in the area! Tonight I had the Market Club with thick turkey breast which looked and tasted like it was just cut fresh from the turkey. thick bacon with a delicious garlic spread. partnered with crisp shoestring fries. this sandwich is so big I could barley get one half down so I will have a tasty snack later on! If you haven’t been here you’re missing out!

Decent brunch. Food was a little off because the portions were kinda small (I got like 8 breakfast potatoes with my Monte cristo), but it felt like we caught them on an off day as it was a Sunday. Our server was very nice and did his best despite the food turn around. I’d try this place again just for those BOMB chocolate chip pancakes…

Great food. Very reasonably priced. Looking forward to going back. I got the brisket sandwich. Very good. Would recommend.

I thought the service here was really great. Our server was very attentive and cheerful. However, I thought the food was too salty and greasy. The brussels sprouts were definitely too greasy for me, and the crab cakes were too salty. I also had the tomato soup, which sort of tasted like a campbell’s soup… I guess its a great place for a standard meal. nothing special aside from good service and fair price

I’ll be back for dinner.
I got the eggs benedict and I am pretty particular about my benes. Market St.‘s is legit. Tasty ham, but most important… homemade hollandaise sauce. Perfect portion and excellent coffee too.
Staff was all very friendly and with smiles.
Suggestion: roast the potatoes (versus fried) with some seasonings and leave the eggs a little more runny.

We tried the Market St based on Unilocal reviews. Here is my opinion:
1) Menu items were pretty standard fare for «American» cuisine with slight twists (ex. Using truffle oil on fries or Rosemary bread for their grilled cheese)
2) Good for families. They have a kids menu. There were lots of kids when we happened to go. There is a bar on the other side of the building.
3) Amount of food per dish was plentiful
4) Parking was ample.
5) Friendly and accommodating staff
6) Somewhat expensive

My kids love this place. It’s very nice to find a neighborhood restaurant like this in your… er neighborhood.
Great Brussels Sprouts, tacos of the cod or pork variety are really good as well. Off beat wine selection but the two reds I had were both nice and value priced. Very friendly staff and good prices too.

Stopped in because we were very hungry and it was the closest place. The outside is deceiving, so look past the building and the cheesy banners. Inside is an intimate, relaxed, and soothing setting. You’re instantly welcomed with mouth-​watering smells and quickly greeted. The portion size is ample, especially with the half cheese plate. Go for the burger!

Great brunch. Kid and dog friendly. Easy access without downtown traffic. Limited parking.

My family of six always gets so pumped up when we walk into the Market Street. The staff always goes the extra mile to make sure my family and I have a great time.
Everything we’ve gotten on the menu has been memorable, the sandwiches are always filling and made of great melty gooey delicious ingredients. The Mrs. always loves the tomato soup and grilled cheese. All the youngsters dig the fish and chips.
We have to order a side of the green beans and they go fast! The little scrumptious shoe string fries are pulled from plate to plate as the kids dishes arrive early to keep our kids happy.
The cocktails are all great and my new favorite is the Rocket Pop.
Great food, great ambience, wonderful staff, guaranteed to provide good eats!

Had the tomato mozz flatbread and it wasn’t bad. My friends chicken and couscous dish looked great and the small bite I had was good.
Ambiance is ok. Nothing amazing. Only complaint is the AC was blasting and we had to ask them to turn it down.

Cute, not showy or too busy, little neighborhood joint. Food was lovingly prepared and plated. Hubby got the bacon turkey sandwich and fries and it was amaaazzzing. Roasted tomatoes, thick cut bacon… nice and crispy… yum yum. Plus really good parmesean truffle oil fries. My grilled cheese, tomato bisque and Caesar was all good too. We totally would have stayed for desert but it was already closing time… didn’t wanna be rude…
They even gave us a $ 5 off coupon for brunch!

Whoa. Some of the best fish in chips I’ve had on the west coast. The breading is a panko/​tempura mix, and the fish is moist and not overcooked.

«Let’s do Happy Hour in Kirkland» is the second-​scariest combination of six words you can throw at me, as far as I’m concerned. (The first-​scariest is «Hit Trader Joe’s right before Thanksgiving.») Kirkland’s downtown on a Friday night is a packed feedlot of the insufferably and conspicuously affluent. The traffic is enraging, the parking is worse, and the reward is long waits for tables and expensive fare.
The Market Street is the antidote. Just far enough north of the insanity, they offer their own ample free parking lot. The vintage red Naugahyde seats, one of a few inviting legacies of the Chinese restaurant that used to occupy this spot, are clean and intact. The clientele is neighborhood yokels, young and old, in every mode of dress. Some of the really old-​timers came for the Chinese food, but stayed for the New American diner and pub grub. Prices are reasonable, and some items even tend towards the bargain side.
I got a sophisticated grease fix on with an $ 8 bowl of Brussels sprouts, fried until golden and crispy around the edges, drizzled with truffle oil, and finished with Parmesan cheese. For my second course, I tucked in to the brisket sandwich, with its side of scrumptious shoestring fries tossed with garlic and Parm. The sandwich was a little thin, but the meat within was all tender meat; no gristly or fatty trimmings.
One of my friends had their huge, very fresh Cobb salad. This gorgeous salad is the answer to the eternal question, «why are there so many pictures of women laughing with salad?»
Drinks are cheap here, relatively speaking. A companion had two large glasses of a tasty punch made with cranberry juice, champagne, and Triple Sec for under $ 20 including tax. Our other companion managed to get to the «I love you guys soooo much» stage for $ 18, tax included.

We had been meaning to stop by this place for months. We had a good chance recently. I was craving fish and chips, which I was told was their most popular item.
I love the décor. The chairs at the tables are super comfy, which means I don’t mind when we aren’t sitting in a booth.
Our server was really great, attentive, and nice.
The food was pretty good. My boyfriend had the beef stroganoff. I had the fish and chips — which were fantastic! The pieces of fish were very moist, and large flake. I wish the portion was a little larger. The appetizer wontons are also pretty tasty.
Will definitely be back.

Pleasant surprised by this place! My friend suggested it per a Unilocal search. It looks like a fancy dim diner in here. Kinda confusing bc it’s like diner looking but kinda dark, and nicer. Mind so blown. Service was great. Food was yummy and prices are SO reasonable. There were a handful of items that looked good on the menu! I tried the brisket sandwich ($ 12) with truffle fries on the side for extra $ 1 instead of normal fries. Very good! Would come back again to try other items!

The Market St is new, and has promise, but it’s not quite there yet.
We came here for brunch on a Saturday, and the place was empty except for one other customer. The fiancé had the eggs benedict, I got the salmon stack which has comes with potato rosti and slaw.
It took 20 minutes for our food to come out because they apparently messed up the hollandaise. (I’m not sure how that happens but anyway…) The wait staff were really apologetic, and the chef even came out to make sure everything else was good. I thought that was a pretty sweet thing to do.
The food had some very good components, although I think the execution still needs work. Serving sizes were good, without being super insane or stingy. The eggs benedict plate came out with a muffin that was pretty well done with little crispy char bits on the edges, but the eggs and the sauce were a bit watery.
The salmon on my stack was well cooked and flaky, but I could have done with more rosti. I really like potatoes so maybe I’m biased, but it was really hard to find the potato bits in the stack, but when I did they had a really nice crispy texture that went well with the salmon. The apple-​fennel slaw was really tasty, and probably my favorite thing on the plate. The sauce was a bit spicy and tangy, and the slaw had a good texture.
Overall customer service here was considerably good; we were checked on regularly (but not obtrusively) to get our waters/​coffee refilled, and to make sure everything was going okay.
The place has a really lovely atmosphere; it’s sort of retro (diner booths, sugar/​coffee/​tea jars above the waiter’s station) but with some pretty cute touches. There are old milk cans in the corner, and the red wheely chairs look fun. The bathrooms were nice and reasonably clean. There’s also a bar area, but I didn’t really see what that was like.
I think they still have a little way to go to get into the swing of things, but I’d be happy to check it out again when they do.
