Historic Requa Inn

We spent two nights at this place. Our room was tiny and the wallpaper was peeling off. The walls are paper thin and we could actually hear other guests conversations. Maybe what makes this place «historic» is the worn out floors and musty smell ??? They rave about their dinners… their reputation was built on a chef that moved on a few years ago. In his place is the son of the inn keeper… nice guy… no formal training… the meals were «ok» nothing special. No choice on entrees… What they serve is what you get ! Oh and they tack on 18% tip and tax too The meals are served family style… hope for nice people at your table Two nights, two dinners lack of sleep $ 627.00. Finally, the Redwoods were fabulous but the park is 17 + miles away from this place. Sorry Requa Inn, you’re over priced and over hyped… invest in your property… and the fiberglass jacuzzi behind the kitchen… really?

We were cruising around the area and not sure of the spots close by to choose from for dinner. Thank goodness for Unilocal.This amazing establishment came up. We had no reservations and my husband went inside to check it out. He came back with these amazing cookies and said they had space for us and it was a communal dinner style and it was really cool. We hung around the inn till the 7pm dinner. It was all worth it. The view, the warm host and the food was just amazing. This was icing on the cake for our weekend getaway to the redwoods. I hope to come back.

My boyfriend and I started a week long journey in Oregon and worked our way down the coast of California. On our third day of the trip we ended up in a small town called Klamath with no service. Throughout the trip we started noticing that EVERYTHING closed down rather early, so when 9 P.M. rolled around we knew we needed to find a place to sleep or we’d be sleeping in the car. Low and behold we took a wrong turn and ended up at The Historic Requa Inn. When we walked in, we immediately fell in love. It was very quaint, but clean and had a tray or chocolate muffins and port waiting for us in the lobby. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and ended up giving us a room called the Post Office that had a kitchen, TV, and private room for $ 150, which is a steal. She also informed us that breakfast was served between 7 and 10.
We had a great nights sleep and woke up right on time for an early breakfast before we started another day of traveling down the coast. The breakfast was prepared by a very sweet lady named Jam. We both ordered pancakes, eggs, coffee, and bacon. It was amazing and the table we had overlooked the river that fed into the ocean. It was a lovely experience, and when I make this trip again I will be stopping at the Requa for a good nights sleep. Potentially two.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The Inn is very quaint and comfortable. The staff was so welcoming and friendly, they made our stay very nice. We ate dinner here twice and breakfast once… the food is amazing! 5 stars to the chef! You can’t beat the view here. it is truly spectacular! We will be back soon!

The sun is breaking through the morning clouds and the river shines silver. Breakfast at the Requa Inn overlooking the Klamath River surely has never looked better, spot lit like this.

Requa means ‘where the river meets the sea’ in Yuroc and that perfectly describes where this historic inn is located. I love this place. The building itself couldn’t have been better imagined by the editors of Field & Stream magazine. White shiplap siding; front porch with a rocking chair overlooking the river; the main room with a fireplace and the most comfortable leather couches. As I write this the mist is lifting up over the river and the hills are beginning to reveal themselves. But alas, I’m on a business trip and I gotta leave. It was a great 15 hours.

I absolutely loved this little inn! First off, the staff was incredibly accommodating. We drove six hours to get here after arriving at the Sacramento airport. Since our luggage did not make it on our flight, the airport was nice enough to drive it up for us once it arrived later that evening. Because reception out there was so sparse, our hostess just gave us the inn phone for the evening to wait until our luggage arrived. They were honestly really sweet.
The inn is in the redwoods and offers a beautiful view of Klamath river. It’s also within a five minute drive from the shore– breathtaking!
Our room was cozy, and I slept like a baby on that soft king sized bed. I found the little details, like the organic shower essentials, such nice touches. Oh, and they have extra towels available for anyone who wants to use the hot tub in the back patio. Last pro, the cooks here are amazing! We ate really well that weekend :)
Minor things the mister wanted to contribute to this review:
1) Our room did not have a T.V.
2) The bathroom was a little compact
3) It was quiet– I laughed at this one because he’s so accustomed to city life that this was a bit eerie for him
Overall, we had a pretty awesome getaway in Klamath! :D

We loved this place. We happened to be nearby when the sun was setting, without a plan for where to stay for the night and this was the only option. It was truly the best luck. The service was incredible — I don’t even want to call it ‘service’, because it felt welcoming and not stuffy/​forced at all. Everyone was genuine and straightforward, very interested in ensuring that we were content, comfortable and felt welcome. The nearby area is gorgeous with redwoods and lots of forest, the salmon is out of this world delicious, the Yurok fishers were out on the salmon run when we were there, and the wildlife around is great. Our room had a perfect view of the river and a love seat to sit in to watch the sun go down. Dinner was fabulous (call ahead). If you are looking for high-​end pretentious, then look elsewhere. If you are looking for down-​to-​earth excellence then this is your spot.

The issue we experienced is that the Inn is marketed – and priced – as a peaceful, secluded inn in the heart of the redwoods. It is neither.
It is located along a thoroughfare with significant traffic at all hours of the night. Motorcycles revved by at 2:30 in the morning and pick-​up trucks blaring music went by at 4. Because of the age of the inn, you can hear everything. Don’t expect to sleep well.
I hate to use the term fundamentally deceitful to describe a business, but this was as close to that as I’ve experienced from a business in a long while.
The staff was very professional, and this review does not pertain to them. Additionally, the Inn has its charm, and if it were properly and honestly marketed, the issues we experienced would be resolved.

I stayed here for nearly a week this summer and had a wonderful experience.
The food (mostly local and much even grown up on the hill above) is well-​prepared and very tasty, and there’s always enough (it’s served family style, which just adds to the comforting experience of the Inn itself).
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the area and even the guests seemed invariably friendly; I think the inn enhances people’s natural friendliness somehow.
Guests have lots of options for things to do, but most guests seem to enjoy walking or hiking, sitting on the front porch, sitting in the hot tub, or lounging in the main living room. While I was there, I took to the large but cozy living room area, where people were playing board games, reading quietly, playing a bit of guitar, or talking around the fireplace. There are also lots of outdoor hangouts nearby, including a small pergola and a dock down near the water.
Apparently, this place changed hands sometime in the past couple of years, and the new innkeepers and chef clearly know what they’re doing. Definitely worth a stay or even just a meal.

We made a dinner reservation last Thursday for party of nine for Friday night at 7pm. One was a toddler. We were camping nearby in a RV campground.
Typically it’s communal dining. However our party took up an entire dining table. The dining room faces the Klamath River.
Prefixed dinner $ 30 p/​p served family style. Friday night dinner — housemade rosemary bread, blanched cauliflower and broccoli with shredded red cabbage and cubed kohlrabi, white northern white beans with smoked Gouda, and pulled pork as our meat entrée. Maple sugar pie for dessert and hot coffee. Hubby and I each got a house red and house white at $ 8 each.
The chef came out to say hi, and to tell us what went into the white beans. Yummy.
Great food in a rustic setting. Nice way to wrap up our weeklong camping trip.

Stayed at the Inn for 2 nights. Cannot say enough great things about the experience. (Food, staff, view, etc etc.) Highly, highly recommend when visiting this part of the Redwoods.
To note … dinner is not offered Mon/​Tues nights… slim pickings outside of the Inn so plan accordingly.

Wow… Very nice place to stay! The place is very well taken care of and the food was excellent! All the staff were very friendly. The view of the bay is excellent. I would recommend asking for a room with the view of the bay. It is breathtaking and well worth the extra money. Can’t wait to return!

This review is for the Father’s Day Brunch…
Visited the Requa Inn to celebrate Father’s Day with my father and grandfather. Their pre fixe «brunch» was pathetic.
The meal started with a platter of «sliders»…our appetizer set out by a severely under trained waiter who kept referring to our party of three women and two men as «you guys, «and could not keep his elbow out of every persons face as he refilled water glasses. The sliders were a mess from the start… beef, cheese, and sauce were sloppily flung on white bread buns and tossed on the plate. The concoction was reminiscent of fajita filling and although messy, it was tasty.
Then the bowls came out. They decided to go from a lovely plated service in 2014 to family style this year and it added to our disappointment. First a white bowl of white beans, covered in white (local) cheese was presented, then corn bread smothered in white sauce, then a «salad» of cabbage covered in white dressing (I’m fairly certain it was the same sauce from the sliders) with white bread croutons and a dusting of sausage sprinkled throughout… do you see a theme here?
Last the «fried chicken» arrived. This time, smothered in an absurdly sweet «beer, bbq sauce.» All that trouble to fry crispy skin, only to be destroyed by a sickeningly sweet sauce. And the grand finale… a pile of half defrosted brownie bites dusted in powdered sugar. We had to take 5 to-​go boxes there was so much left over. We gave what we could away to the homeless in Crescent City on the way home.
I’m fairly certain the cabbage and cheese were the only local ingredients on what they boast to be «local organic faire created with «your best guy» in mind.»
Excuse me, chef? If we wanted a meal like that we would have went to Denny’s…not paid 30 $ a head (with 18% gratuity included mind you!)

Love the inn, but have a gluten allergy. My husband made reservations for Mother’s Day brunch and forgot to mention my food restriction. When we arrived, the fixed menu was posted nowhere.
Of the first four dishes, three included gluten. When I talked with the owner, I was told to eat around the wheat. I explained that I can’t, and was told to eat the fruit salad. I expected both the chef and owner to be more understanding and professional. Honestly, enjoying breakfast without gluten is usually easy. So disappointed and will neither return nor recommend.

The Requa Inn is really a charming place in the middle of a long stretch of redwood forests and not much else. It sits near the mouth of the Klamath River, and you can continue up the road to the top of the hill where there is a great view of the Klamath flowing into the ocean. True to B+B form, the staff here is very friendly, and there were cookies in the lobby area (albeit more picked over looking than I’m used to seeing at places like this.). Breakfast was fast and delicious and you get your pick of any or all of assortment of different items. We stayed in the post office suite, which was two rooms — a living room and bedroom. It was very spacious, but also frigid when we first arrived. We couldn’t seem to get the central heat to turn on. They did leave two space heaters, but the one in the living room kept tripping the circuit, so that was not of much use. of course, at a bed and breakfast, there must be plenty of cats. Requa has three, all of whom we managed to meet, as well as a dog from across the street who likes to come and scare off the cats.

Cute and quaint little bed and breakfast. Great views of the Klamath river, as well as private beach access– which is spectacular. Location is great as it is very close to the redwood forest.
Everyone I came in contact with at the hotel was polite and pleasant. Breakfast was homemade and delicious.
Just a little warning to others though — there is no tv. However, dont let that deter your stay, there is so much to do in this area you won’t even need one, and the wifi works really well. (No cell
Phone service either) but it is what it is!

I cannot say enough good things about this place. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend in March. We arrived late Friday night, and Jan gave us fresh-​baked chocolate chip cookies as we checked in.
Our room was a steal at under $ 100 since it was the off season. It was very cozy, and perfect if you plan on hiking most of the weekend anyway. For those who will be spending more time in their rooms, it would be worth it to spend a little more for one of the larger rooms with a view of the Klamath River.
We had breakfast at the inn each morning since dining options in the area are limited. I had a green smoothie (probably one of the best I ever had and I still crave it to this day), fluffy vanilla nutmeg pancakes, eggs, and bacon. It was the perfect breakfast to get you through a day of hiking.
I also really liked that their hot tub is available for use all night and can be reserved for 30 minute intervals.
Definitely a great place to stay for a weekend in the Redwoods!

This is strictly dining! Sadly, there was no room at the Historic Requa Inn… they were fully booked on a Tuesday! Good sign. However, we enjoyed a lovely «happy hour» in the living room and on the front porch overlooking the Klamath River. Really! How did we get so lucky. We shared a fabulous meal with two other couples staying at the Historic Requa Inn.
The communal dining was wonderful. Hearing what out-​of-​state guests had to say including, «We would come back to California just to come here! Breakfasts are amazing!» (Breakfast is reserved for Historic Requa Inn guests only.) As are the dinners, locavore cooking is creatively prepared and presented and available to all — reservations are highly recommended.
Staff is so friendly! The owner/​innkeeper, Jan, provided a bit of a tour and history of the inn, region, and the Yurok tribe that calls this place home. The inn is on the Yurok Indian Reservation overlooking the mouth of the Klamath River and the Pacific Ocean. Arrive early for happy hour and enjoy the view from the front porch or the parlor. Nearby, Klamath Beach Road takes you to the sand spit and the mouth of the Klamath River. Great way to work off your dinner the next day. Plenty of other places to hike among the redwood giants.
Communal dining — shared tables — is with your new BFFs for the prix fix dinners April 1 — October 31, seven days a week. The prix fix dinners are available off –season November — March but the dining room is dark on Sundays. Regional cuisine embraces farm-​to-​table — showcasing the abundance of the Klamath River area. Three to four courses (depending on the season) you will leave satiated and smiling.

Discovery of the Historic Requa Inn came about from a work assignment. The Post Office was a fabulous suite. Unfortunately, I was unable to enjoy the dinner. However, I can comment on the fabulous breakfast on my last day. Lemon poppy-​seed flapjacks, the fluffiest scrambled eggs, European yogurt with fresh fruit, fresh coffee and orange. Yum! Snapples was a friendly dog who met me every morning.
My only regret is I didn’t book an additional day. I would have enjoyed staying longer.
I will definitely return.
