History

Established in 1982.

Dr. Marek Pienkowski has been serving patients with allergy, asthma and immunodeficiency in East Tennessee for the past three decades. He has opened allergy and asthma clinics throughout the Greater Tri-​Cities and Knoxville area and organized the Eastern Tennessee Pollen and mold station in Johnson City.

Dr. Pienkowski specializes in adult and pediatric allergy (environmental, food and insect), sinusitis, hay fever, headaches, asthma, immune disorders, and inherited/​acquired immunodeficiency. His clinical interests are allergic diseases, asthma collagen-​vascular diseases, immunodeficiency and immunomodulation. His research areas include mediators and cellular aspects of hypersensitivity reactions.

Dr. Marek M. Pienkowski M.D., P.h.D D.

Business Owner

Dr. Pienkowski was a Fellow of Medicine in clinical Immunology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland where he collaborated with Dr. Philip Norman. He was a resident at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan in Internal Medicine and an Associate Professor teaching Immunology at Michigan State University in the College of Human Medicine. Dr. Pienkowski was a visiting scientist at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wistar Institute, where he collaborated with Dr. Hilary Koprowski (inventor of the world’s first effective live polio vaccine) in the research of interaction of oncogenic viruses with differentiating cells. He earned his MD and PhD from Warsaw Medical University in Warsaw, Poland. He has published numerous papers advancing the understanding and management of allergic disease.

Dr. Pienkowski is a member of the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.
