History

Established in 2012.

Owned by father & son team John and Dustin Burnett and operated by Dustin and his wife Lisa, Nothing Too Fancy opened in the fall of 2012. John and Dustin had been working in printing for a combined 30 years and the idea for a retail store came about while Dustin and Lisa were on a road trip. They brought the idea to John and less than 6 months later the store opened its doors. The idea was to create a place for guys to shop in downtown Knoxville. Since then, the store has developed into a place that everyone likes to visit.

Haven’t actually been in the store, but a friend sent me a shirt with state of TN on it with a heart where Knoxville is. ;) LOVE IT! It was too small, but a quick call to the store & they had me send the shirt back & they happily mailed me a larger one (& helped me decide which size to order!) Great staff! :)

I visited Nothing too Fancy in December. The reason I’m writing a review now is because I just realized that the only three shirts I absolutely love to wear came from this establishment. They have amazing designs. They have unique artwork. And they fit perfectly with comfortable material. Nothing too Fancy has more than shirts, as I bought a belt buckle and a pint glass, too. (It’s a very dangerous store for your credit card after having a few drinks at The Stock and Barrel and Tupelo Honey Café.) And while I was thinking about what shirts I should purchase, I played some Royal Rumble, arcade style. I live in Wisconsin, but a store representing their home state and city this well would make me proud to live in Tennessee.

What a cool little shop that has all kinds of neat things with Tennnessee on their items.
Prices were very reasonable.
They even had wood sunglasses. Yes. Wood sunglasses. They were even named brand. Something different, you dont see those everyday.
Would recommend if your wanting anything with the Tennessee 3-​star symbol on them.

We visited Knoxville for the weekend and had to stop by. The store has a very cool vibe and the staff were kind. The range of items was awesome and really made the store unique. The t-​shirts were top quality I and they’ve held up well since the trip. Don’t leave the city until you check this place out.

Such great customer service! My boyfriend & I were visiting Knoxville for new year’s eve & he fell in love with a comfy robe in Nothing Too Fancy. I didn’t buy it on the spot because I wanted to surprise him with it for his birthday. Once we were back in Chicago, I called the store & they happily shipped me the robe. It arrived quickly & was exactly as we remembered it. Thanks again, Nothing Too Fancy!

This is THE PLACE for cool, stylish, soft graphic tees. All the shirts are locally designed. If you are looking for a Knoxville specific shirt, then head here first! The store itself is very cool & has a great vibe. It’s hard for me to go in without purchasing something. I especially love the new shirt they have that says «865 since 423 ». However, I’m 865 since 615.

Nothing Too Fancy is a perfect (and much needed) retail fit for Market Square. Think a more Knoxville centric, colorful, and higher quality take on Urban Outfitters. Super soft tee’s with cool designs, local prints and artwork, and other interesting objects like sippin seats, pint glasses, laptop/​tablet/​phone cases, and lightning fixtures. There’s tons of character in the shop, with quirky stuff like a refurbished record console, a yellow tandem bike, and a vintage scale you can hop on (which if you’ve pigged out at Tomato Head or Café 4 around the corner, you might want to weigh in another time). It’s definitely worth popping in just to see what the store’s carrying next.
