Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame

We found this museum passing through Knoxville since you can’t miss the big basketball! Being BIG basketball fans, my mom and I really enjoyed the exhibits. It took us about 2 hours to go through the whole museum, but if you’re a fast reader you could possibly get through in an hour. The exhibits start with a 15 min movie about the history of women’s basketball, followed by a self-​guided tour. When we went, there was a $ 1 off coupon on their website, so check before you go if you like to save a buck like me! The museum ends with some basketball courts with basketballs for kids to place and a small gift shop. I definitely thought they had a nice variety of teams represented from NCAA, WNBA, to high school. Worth seeing if you’re a basketball lover!

This is the only hall of fame in the world dedicated to women’s basketball, making it one of a long list of unique attributes to Knoxville. It’s a fun place to visit, too.
The Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame is a nice museum with loads of history, artifacts, and information about one of the most popular female sports around the world. It is mostly displayed in a chronological order from the beginning of the museum through the loop to the entrance again, so it’s like walking through time when you explore this sport. It is self-​guided so you can go as fast as you like, or take your time at each informative board.
They also have a large recreational area at one end of the museum with a few regulation-​height basketball goals and several balls. Kids are encouraged to play while the adults take a break on the benches nearby. At the end of the loop around the museum is the hall of fame with photos and information about all the members. Finally, you exit through a gift shop that takes you bake to the entrance. A trip around the hall of fame and museum can take as little as forty five minutes, or as much as two hours.
With the exception of the recreation area, the hall of fame is located on a single floor so it’s easy for people with walking disabilities to access. Parking is located on site and free of charge, which is also easy to access near downtown. Along with being the only hall of fame in the world dedicated to this sport, Knoxville also lays claim to the World’s Largest Basketball which sits atop one end of the building on the outside. Be sure to see this thing at night; it really lights up the skyline!
TIP: Be sure to visit Fort Sanders right across the street while visiting the hall of fame.
