The Parrish Collection Kauai

The accommodations service ambience and aesthetics were wonderful. They have a great attention to detail. We stayed at Kukuiula and had a great time. I really recommend it.

If there was a way to have zero stars, I would have given them a zero. We booked what we thought was going to be a luxury property and we ended up with hassles for entire month stay. They were aware that our refrigerator was broken before we arrived and did not inform us or do anything about it until after we did a huge shopping trip to Costco only to have our food spoil. There was also a large amount of construction around the property that they did not inform us of when booking the property. The icing on the cake was after we left. During our stay we did not bother them with every complaint because we were frankly tired of stopping our vacation plans to stay around for maintenance people to show up. When we arrived home we received an unconscionable email about how a large portion our security deposit was going to be kept due to «excessive cleaning» that had to be done by CLEANING LADIES. The things they mentioned include laundry, dishes and having to clean floors. All seems within the scope of a cleaning lady to me! When we responded in disagreement and asked them to substantiate their claims, they simply said, «In the interest of protecting our owner’s property, we will be deducting the $ 400 from your security deposit. The remaining $ 600 will be returned to you as soon as possible.». Classy…
My advice… never work with this agency… they can make a vacation into a nightmare…

I’m not sure how to comment back to the Parrish Collection’s comment. I don’t review places often because I haven’t had this bad of an experience on a vacation before.
It’s interesting that you believe this post is vindictive because we believe your assessment of the house being «trashed» and charging us accordingly was not only incredibly insulting but also very clearly vindictive. It appears to be your method of recovering costs that you lost for providing us with faulty appliances and sub-​standard conditions. I don’t think you have the right to assess how I perceived my vacation. Your extra pitcher of Mai-​tais as a band-​aid for all the «boo-​boos» did not repair all the issues that we endured. But it was an indicator that you noticed there was something to be apologizing for. I simply want to warn people of what they are in for. Perhaps you should look at this review and consider how you can improve and accept feedback from a customer that wishes they could have enjoyed their vacation more.

By rights, Parrish should be a 5 star management team to match the properties they manage. But in each of our two visits, there were niggling, needlessly irritating problems. Our first stay didn’t have a meet and greet — we didn’t even realize it as how difficult is it to figure out how to live in a home with features nearly identical to what we are accustomed to anyway? The second stay (after we were fully familiar with the property), they gave us the Full Monty — which we didn’t want and tried to shoo the very nice lady out as quickly as possible — had to have the obligatory Mai Tais, but we would have rather just gone outside and sipped our own beverages. Next time, we’ll request NOT to have the meet and greet. Also, it’s a bit wonky with the check out — to have to go to their office and hand over the keys. I’d rather they meet us for check out than check in.
Also, the weekly cleaning crew is incredibly S L O W and takes WAY too long. A small clean (change sheets/​clean towels) and minor cleaning of the kitchen (which gets little use as we eat out most nights) and bathrooms takes ~4 hours for two people? Really? Hire a bigger cleaning crew if you can’t find anyone to work with any urgency. We’re paying top dollar for our privacy and to have to deal with 4 hours wasted while a S L O W cleaning crew (a husband and wife team?) fiddles around is ridiculous. The first stay we thought it was just an aberration, but we had similar slow pokes the second time. No on-​the-​ball property management team should allow such «island time» cleaning crews to work on their properties. Next time I’ll tell the cleaning crew they have two hours to finish — no more wasting hours of our time we’d rather be at the house enjoying ourselves. If I were on that cleaning crew, I’m pretty sure I’d have everything done in an hour and a half without breaking a sweat…
Those needlessly irritating management issues aside, the property is 5 star. We’ve stayed at Hale Naia several times. Excellent well maintained beachfront property on Baby Beach — very quiet with outstanding views and privacy. It’s on a quiet street with little traffic (one of the nicest locations in Poipu in that regard). Property was professionally updated several years ago and has modern upscale kitchen and bathrooms with reasonably nice furnishings. Grounds are in very good condition. No pool on this property, but you have gated access to Baby Beach (when the gate isn’t broken from waves). Can find snorkelers just offshore and surfers in the mid distance. At high tide, access to the beach requires walking in very shallow water for a few yards, but most time you step on to sand. That said, the retaining wall is being undermined by wave action and they need to do something about it eventually.
Summary: Management 4 star. Property 5 star.

My friends and I recently stayed at one of the Parrish Collection properties while in Hawaii for a wedding. The house was just as gorgeous as the pictures. After a few days we noticed a lot of details that had been overlooked (paint chipping, blinds that didn’t work), but we were so excited to be in Hawaii it didn’t really phase us. That is, until the ceiling started leaking into the living room from the master bathroom. As soon as we noticed it was leaking we alerted Parrish.
At first they really impressed me. Simone put another property on hold for us in the event we had to relocate, and gave us the choice of a discount for the inconvenience if we wanted to stay in the original property. Service technicians were sent out to assess the problem. They mentioned that construction may have to take place in the master bedroom closet in order to diagnose the problem. Later that night Simone called us to say the construction may not be necessary, but we still have the option of moving if we want. Everyone felt more comfortable moving just incase it turned into a bigger issue. After deliberation, we decided to relocate the next morning.
I arrived at Parrish to get the keys to the new house. I brought a couple pieces of luggage with me to start the move incase we decided to take it. The new house was definitely a downgrade, but it was closer to the wedding we were attending, closer to the beach, and only one story, so hopefully no leaking ceilings! I returned to the Parrish office to let them know we would be taking the new place, and the office manager Maddy told me no. She said the leak was fixed and we can’t move. I explained that a few people in my party were uncomfortable with the situation. Not knowing how long the ceiling has been leaking for, we didn’t know the extent of the rot or structural damage under the master bath. Parrish didn’t seem to care. The office manager said the leak had been fixed by a plumber the night before while we were out, and that was the end of it. She also said Simone should have never told us we could still move if we wanted to. I expressed my frustrations and Maddy said she would personally make sure they «make it up to me.» I returned to the new house, picked up my luggage, went back to the Parrish office, returned the new keys, and went to the original house, where the rest of my party was unpacking, since they had already packed their luggage in preparation for the move.
A few hours after I got back, the plumber and a Parrish employee showed up to fix the leak. It hadn’t been fixed the night before. They caulked the bathroom floor and told us not to use it for a few hours. The Parrish employee said she was surprised to see us unpacking our things. She informed us she had just gotten back from prepping the new house for our arrival. She asked if we were staying or going, and I told her no one has any idea.
Later that afternoon, someone came to fix the dishwasher. While I was at the Parrish office, I overheard someone call in with a dishwasher problem. At this point, Parrish’s competence almost became laughable. I told the guy he was more than welcome to look at my dishwasher but he wouldn’t find anything wrong. I informed him that the call came from another property. He called the office and confirmed that they gave him the wrong address.
The only person at Parrish who actually exhibited acceptable customer service was Simone. She deserves a raise and a promotion. Everyone else in the company that I dealt with needs to take a class on communication. It has been over a month since I returned from my trip, and though Maddy promised Parrish would «make it up to me,» nothing was ever done.

We had a similar experience to Jav P.
Our rental fee of $ 6200 for the week included a $ 400 cleaning fee, but we were informed after we checked out that they were withholding $ 100 from our deposit because they had to do ‘extra laundry’ (8 people used 8 bath towels, 8 beach towels and the sheets on the bed) and we had not cleaned the kitchen adequately.
In addition, when we asked for a later check out than the 10 a.m. they required, we were told they would charge us $ 450.

Buyer beware. The condo was fine and while we were there we had a good experience, however, the trouble started after we left. It is bad enough that they were going to charge us $ 150 for house cleaning. However, given it is a vacation we figured what the heck. However, they charged us another $ 150 saying that we left the dishes in the sink and the carpet had cherios (we have 2 year old) and that the towels were not washed. I didn’t realize that they expect their guests to clean the house while on vacation and then pay another $ 150 extra for good measure. Bunch of bloody crooks. Stay AWAY!!!

First of all, the pictures did not do the unit justice– gorgeous, bigger than expected, and outfitted perfectly for our vacation– even had beach chairs and towels! Conveniently located to a great lil snorkel beach near the ST. Regis that we ended up at almost every day of our trip. Would DEF return.
Secondly, Parrish Collection as a property management group was fabulous. I was in the business a number of years in the Lake Tahoe area, and they are top-​notch; great customer service, and very professional in their management of the unit. Would most definitely use them in the future.

Waikomo Streams Villas unit #520
We had to cancel the unit after the 1^st night stay. We knew that we would not getting a refund, but we decided not to stay the rest of our stay in Kauai to ruin the rest of our vacation. We moved into Sheraton hotel and we were happy with our decision. The condo was really dark and smelled funny. The kitchen cabinet was old and dirty, and smelled really bad. The carpet was dirty so they had to cover the carpet with rugs though out the living room and the dinning area. The bedroom and the bathroom were dark during the day, even when the lights are on. The location of the unit is right next to the main street (Poipu Road) and the traffic was heavy from dusk to dawn. We had to leave the windows open to get some cool air because the unit does not come with the air conditioning, it made the traffic noise even worst. The rooters crow all day and night, it made it even harder to sleep. I tried to submit a review on the Parrish Collection website, and the website said they will have to approve before they can post it. Don’t let the pictures fool you. I would not recommend it.

I’ve rented from Parrish for the past two years when i visited Kauai. First time (April 2011) was Tradewinds home, second time (August 2012) was the Ahuimanu home. Both places are amazing properties, i’d definitely describe both as «swanky». Parrish has a whole range of properties for nearly any budget though, not just high end homes.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the homes were in fantastic condition. The Tradewinds property included maid service half way thru our visit, which was nice, though not absolutely necessary. No maid service at Ahuimanu, but since there are laundry facilities in the house, it wasn’t a problem at all.
Tradewinds is on the golf course just north of Poipu, Ahuimanu is on the edge of the crater just E of Shipwreck Beach. Views were great from both, i think i preferred Ahuimanu as it was closer to the beaches. Ahuimanu has a nice secluded backyard, while Tradewinds sits right on the edge of the golf course.

Waikomo Stream Villas Number 122
We found this lovely vacation rental as recommended by a friend of ours who lives here on Kauai.
This is a very nicely decorated vacation rental in the Poipu Beach area. The pricing was very affordable. They offered us a kamaaina discount so the price per night worked out to be $ 79! We arrived by a shuttle from the airport, Surf and Turf shuttle which was recommended to us by the Parrish Collection. They were on time and gave us some tips on where we were and where to go for groceries, shopping, the beach etc.
This rental is over a thousand square feet, a huge treat for us coming from our tiny Oahu condo. This condo unit is a one bedroom, one bath. It has all the comforts of home. Free internet access (that I am using at the moment to write this) a full kitchen with everything that you will need to prepare any meal. We loved the coffee that they left us for the first morning, then we ventured out to the local markets. All that we needed was within walking distance. There is a toaster so we got to make bagels, a blender for our morning fruit smoothies, a beautiful lanai overlooking a stream of koi fish and some nice big frogs that serenaded us to sleep at night. This unit is clean and very comfortable with a nice king bed and a bath tub for relaxing cool baths after a day at the beach. There is also a dishwasher and a washer and dryer, towels and chairs for the beach, Even and ironing board to get our outfits ready for a nice evening out at one of the many fine local restaurants. The place comes with one parking stall if you need it and also a lovely pool in a quiet atmosphere surrounded by beautiful orchids.
Also when we finally met the folks in the office when it opened on Monday they were super nice and helpful in recommending things for us to do on foot since we didn’t have a car. Even before we got here they always answered the phone and made sure that we were comfortable arriving after hours and gave us good instructions on how to get settled in (bring a little flashlight if you are arriving at night, the combination lock box for the keys is little hard to see),
All in all I would highly recommend unit 122 at the Waikomo Stream Villas!

I stayed at Waikomo Streams and it’s awesome and very very cheap.
Here’s the deal. I am in my 20’s with not a lot of money. I wanted the convenience of a close to the beach condo with a full kitchen so I could cook my own meals. Waikomo Streams is PERFECT for that. It made my Hawaiian vacation very very affordable. We had 4 people inside a 2 bedroom (1 real bedroom + loft) condo. And per person, I paid less money than my what my apartment in SF costs (if I calculate what my monthly rent comes down to nightly) I also paid less money per person, per night at Waikomo Streams than I did for my CAMPING PERMIT at Kalalau Beach.
The kitchen was adequate, the beds comfortable, there were BBQs and a nice pool. 5 minute walk to closest beach and 5 min walk to restaurants, shops, etc. Very quiet nook in Poipu despite being close to traffic circle. Also, our lanai looked out on to the ocean. We went with the middle option («deluxe,» I believe. Not «premium» or «island casual»)
Yes, the décor was 1990’s fabulous. Yes, we did NOT have daily maid service. Yes, it would have been much better with an on site jacuzzi. Yes, we had to connect our computers to a physical cord for internet.
But for what we wanted out of it– it was perfect. There is no «catch» to the low rates or mega-​sales they have during off seasons other than what I mentioned above. If you are expecting resort quality amenities, chicly styled modern rooms, and a made bed every morning with a mint on the pillow– this is NOT your place. Go stay at the Grand Hyatt. If you are looking for a Kauai vacation spot that will be comfortable, allow you to cook meals, and is conveniently located– Waikomo Streams Villas is 100% the right place. It allowed me to access the beauty of Kauai at a very reasonable price.
Bottom line: Biggest bang for your buck on the island.

The Parrish Collection is as much about the staff as it is about the top-​of-​the-​line facilities. Both are superior. We have used them twice while vacationing on Kauai. We had used other property management services on previous vacations to Kauai and TPC beats them all. From your first contact till the last the staff is polite and helpful. Kristie goes out of her way to accomodate special needs and requests. When the hot-​tub did not work in our rental house it was fixed within 12 hours. We also rented the house next door, managed by a different company, and it took three days for them to fix a problem with the hot tub. I will not use any other copany while staying on Kauai.(They are also very fast in returning your deposit.) I especially like the discounts availabke to repeat loyal customers $$$$. This company is the Mecedes of property management companies.

I was originally going to share a condo with three other friends but it turned out they like to live «high on the hog» and picked a place that even with the split was out of my price range.
Looking for a place close by I came across the Parrish Collection and their property The Cottages at Poipu Kai. I was first won over by the pictures but a little apprehensive when I could not find any reviews on the property. I rolled the dice and booked Cottage 1.
The reservation process was easy (Joanne a total sweetheart), check in was easy with the keys/​directions/​and anything and everything I needed to know waiting in a packet for me at the car rental station as promised.
Upon my arrival I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was a short 2 minute walk from the condo where the rest of my party was staying and better yet the Cottage looked exactly like the photo’s!
More than enough space for me with a king size bed, large flat screen T.V., a private lanai, and kitchen stocked with real plates/​silverware/​glassware. All this at HALF the cost if I would have shared a condo with three other people. My friends were SO jealous when they saw my private hideaway especially in comparison to their $$$ a night unit with plastic forks/plates/stemware…LOL
Pat was a great help before and during my trip, and quick to respond when I had an issue with the WiFi access, sending out the property manager to reset the modem.
Plus did I mention the great touch of the breakfast welcome basic :)

I would highly recommend this property

I’ve been to Kauai twice before and stayed at the Marriott in Lihue for a month each time for business. This time around I decided to stay at a condo because they have much more room and you get a kitchen. After taking an initial look at my unit, it looked like a pretty decent place. Full kitchen with some bowls, pots, pans, strainers, rusty can opener, and some utensils. There’s also bottles of shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and dish washing liquid. Another good thing is that you get a washer and dryer with detergent too. This is great because you can pack less clothes and save space to bring home more chachkies to collect dust on your book shelf.
Now, I’m not the type of person that likes to compare themselves to others, but I have four other co-​workers that booked rooms at Waikomo too. Each co-​worker paid the exact same amount as I did and we all have a 1 bed /​1 bath condo. After checking out their rooms, I know that not all these condos are created equal. In fact, if you had checked the Parrish Collection website for Waikomo Stream, then the pictures for the rooms don’t tell you the whole story.
Not only that the other units have nicer interior even though we all have the «deluxe» interior type rooms, but they have other amenities that I don’t have. Ar-​moires filled with beautiful glasses, LCD TV screen, WiFi, iPod stereo system, granite counter and bathroom tops, bikes, beach gear, even kitchen equipment like the George Foreman Grill (GFG)! For all you ladies out there who do not understand the significance of the GFG, it’s like this… The GFG to a single guy who can’t cook is like a caveman discovering fire for the first time.
1. Find raw mystery meat thingy from the depths of fridge.
2. Put said mystery meat into GFG.
3. Swat flies around my head
4. Open GFG, burn hands on meat
5. Let cool, eat meat.
6. Stand on kitchen table and let out victorious yell while drumming on chest.
Other important items like WiFi wasn’t available for my unit. Now that’s not to say that this unit doesn’t have «High Speed Internet» because they do. It’s just not wireless and the modem is located on top of the TV stand with a cable reach of 4 feet. So after talking to the property management, we decided to go college-​style and siphon WiFi from a neighboring unit (#430). Sweet WiFi success for my iPod touch!
16…number of mosquito bites after the first 4 days. For those that have sweet delicious blood coursing through their veins that these little vampires so desire, the Off brand repellant with 7% deet works more as as a blood seasoning as oppose it’s original intent of repelling bugs that eat your blood. So if you are planning to get unit #421 at Waikomo Stream Villas, then be aware that they will come and get you because of the extra vegetation around this unit.
So the dilemma becomes should I open the windows with the holes in the screen and the gaps between its sidings and let bugs feast on me OR do I keep it closed and sweat like I’m weight cutting for a UFC fight? After consulting with the property management, Lee and Novella, they said that’s how it is around these parts and we all gotta suffer with it. No one suggested to install new screens or anything, just kinda deal with it. However, what they did suggest was some natural mosquito repellants like «Skin So Soft» offered at the local pharmacy down the street. So far so good. No new bites means a happy inner caveman.

Our family comes to Kauai (if we’re lucky) every year… one year we managed to bring approximately 25 family members over from the Mainland and Parrish Collection and Waikomo Stream Villas were wonderful! We have stayed at several of the other condos over the years with other agencies and nothing has compared. The registration and check in process is always seamless. There are never any hidden costs, and everything is as expected. Our family favors the Waikomo Stream Villas because it’s beautiful, clean, quiet, and less pricey. We tend to stay in #123, right next to the parking lot and the pool. When we are over there we love to spend time with our ohana on the island. There is never any hassle, unlike other condos places. As long as we are respectable, and follow the rules, there is never a problem with entertaining. There is shopping (grocery and other) within walking distance.

Parrish Collection is HOT! The best customer service — from Joanna (our booking agent) to Novella (the grounds rep.) They were very helpful and super friendly. I would rent through them again, no doubt.
We stayed at at 533 — 2 bdrm/​2 ba condo in Wiakomo Streams Villa in Koloa — The condo was perfect for my fam-​a-​lam. My girls loved the condo, especially the grounds pool. We also appreciated all the free added amenities — boogie boards, beach chairs, towel etc.
This is our home away from home! Mahalo!

This company is all that and then some. The staff is soooo friendly that you feel like you’re dealing with a long time friend (one that loves you). In true island style, they are very accommodating and so helpful. Key packet was available in their lockbox as we arrived after their office hours and contained everything we needed.
The unit we rented was a one bedroom condo in the Waikomo Stream Villas complex (Unit 223). The major problem we had with the unit that could have been prevented was the sheets & pillowcases smelled and/​or were dirty. We used up all of our laundry detergent to clean them. Their onsite office apologized and gave us detergent to replace the ones we used to wash their stuff. Other than that (and the tropical bugs), the unit was perfect! A very spacious one bedroom (unfortunately the bedroom itself did not have good ventilation, so it was very hot) with a very large living room and dining room. The staff’s description of the construction site next door was very accurate, but the noise didn’t bother us as we woke up at 7am everyday anyway. Beach chairs and an electric fan were also provided.
Every time we went to the pool, it was as if it was our own. Only on a couple of occasions were there people there other than ourselves and they were all nice and quiet anyway.
The best thing I have to say about this company is their great customer service. We had to switch our car rental mid-​vacation and we left our condo key connected to the car rental that we returned. ALAMO then cleaned the car and rented the vehicle out with our condo key and the van was not returned until we left the island. Luckily ALAMO (at our constant insistent and phone calls) was able to contact the renter to confirm they had the keys and Parrish (I wish I could remember her name, Lulea I think?) was able to coordinate with the manager to have the keys picked up the next day, therefore saving us the headache and extra cost of a key replacement.
We had rented from them before when they were Grantham Resorts, but we will definitely rent from them again for their great customer service. Thanks for another great vacation!
