Thank you for letting Diesel now known as Mochi adopt us. He’s the most loveable dog. He was there for only a week and was attached to the staff who was showing him to us. That shows The staff genuinely cares about the animals there. Everyone we interacted were great. They were honest to share with us the fact that the original dog we saw online was returned twice and that Mochi may have marking issues, don’t have the best house manners having been a stray and hyperactive. They had to make sure we were up to potential issues. Mochi is doing wonderfully, housebroken and no marking incidents after two times. And he ended up having a lot more manners than we anticipated for an older puppy!

After adopting our new member of the family we found out that she is capable of jumping a 6 foot privacy fence. She got out twice and was quickly found 2 doors down. The shelter then changed their mind about our ability to care for a dog and took her back, saying we aren’t fit to care for her. They haven’t returned my calls. No effort was made to work with us to decrease her «separation anxiety», they simply won’t return my pet. If they are going to claim her as their own, I would at LEAST like my money back for the adoption fees.

After much turmoil, phone calls, and emails. PAWS has come through for our family.

the people who work here are very much into the pups and cats. It seems like the animals are taken care of. We have adopted from them, and it worked out perfectly. Everything went smoothly. We go back from time to time with Rocket, and the love they have for these animals truly shows. (but, in al honesty, our pup IS adorable). We’ve never been met with a rude demeanor, as was stated in another post.

Some of the staff are personable and helpful, while several CLEARLY prefer animals to people. Communication of the office is poor and unorganized. Such a shame that a place which shelters dogs and cats, looking to place them in homes and count on people to take them into their hearts, has staff that are so jaded and can treat people like they’re an inconvenience. I guess there is a difference between people who get paid to be there for a job and people who donate their energy to helping animals.
Austin Animal Shelter is always looking for people and are much better at communication.

We found the perfect dog online on the website here, researched the policies and procedures. Tried to call no answer three times. So we drove 50 miles to go see the dog. Very nice people, nice facility. We spent over an hour with the 95 pound Rottie to find out that they will not adopt out animals that are going to spend time as an outside dog. Even though I have a climate controlled dog house. If I could have found this out before hand I would have never traveled a hundred miles today. I asked why this is not posted on their website, she said is because people lie. Well I’m posing this because people should know about this ahead of time. If people are going to lie they will lie… I feel sorry for the dog he would have been happy here on our large property. I guess they feel a 95 pound dog would do better inside a house…

I love Paws! I had gotten a puppy here years ago! Just revisiting today and donated some money to keep the lovable animals taken care of till they find a forever home!

Wonderful, caring Staff (from the Front Office to the Caregivers for all of the Dogs and Cats). Very clean, too. In 2013, PAWS rescued almost 1,000 animals — all found their happily every after homes. PAWS also rescues from the Kill Shelters and carefully screen potential adopters. We got our cat from the PAWS shelter. The people working there were very friendly and helpful.

The reception people are rude every time I go in there. I wanted to adopt two puppies that had been together for a long time, the desk lady rolled her eyes and told me that wasn’t how they do things. Well whatever. I just left and went to San Marcos to adopt.

I love PAWS, we adopted one of our dogs from them. Also, I dropped off a blanket donation a little after 5 and one of the volunteers was so nice. Even though they were closed, he took the donation for me. Adopt a rescue! They’re more loving

We adopted our dog from PAWS last September. When I lived in San Marcos while going to grad school a few years back I would torture myself by scanning the adoptable dogs on the PAWS website even though we couldn’t have a dog where we lived. They consistently posted incredibly charismatic pictures of each adoptable animal along with a good description of temperament and what background information they had for each one. When we moved back to Austin and finally had incomes that could support another fur baby and a lease that allowed dogs as well as cats, I knew PAWS was the first place I wanted to look.
When we went out to their facility in Kyle I already had a good idea of which dogs I wanted to meet thanks to their helpful website. The facility itself was very clean and run by a friendly staff of volunteers who clearly knew and loved each animal in their care. After walking through the kennel area and looking at the dogs in person (being especially cognizant of the ones who seemed a little fearful of my husband who has a very deep voice and was sporting a full beard at the time), we told the volunteers at the desk which dogs we were interested in meeting. They were able to narrow down the selection for us a little more by telling us which dogs were known to be better off without other animals in the house. We have two cats, so that was must-​have information. We, of course, fell in love with the first dog we took out to play with, a one year-​old flat-​coat retriever mix who at the time was named «Heidi». The one thing we had to be sure of was cat friendliness. She had only been at the shelter for a few days so they didn’t know how she’d act around cats, but they «cat-​tested» her immediately by bringing out a docile cat from the kitty room. Thankfully, «Heidi» showed only friendly interest with a few sniffs and big swishy wags of her tail. We ended up filling out the adoption forms that afternoon. The adoption process was incredibly easy, made more so by the fact that our new pup came with a full tune-​up and had already been spayed, micro-​chipped, and given all of her shots.
PAWS also does great work for the pet-​loving community in and around Kyle. Their calendar always has community events such as low-​cost vaccine and spay/​neuter clinics held in partnership with Emancipet. They clearly go out of their way to help all animals around Kyle, not just the ones under their care. If you are looking to give a new fuzzy a forever home, I highly recommend PAWS.
