La Canada Pet Clinic

All these rave reviews, but I just called for the first time to try to make an appointment with Dr. Schultz based on a recommendation, but I was told (rather cheerfully) «I’m sorry, we’re all booked for today.» No attempt to find out what might be wrong with my cat. No attempt to try to book an appointment on another day. The doctors might be great, but how great can they be if their office staff stinks at customer service? I did see that last year there was a review that complained about the office staff, but I figured it was one-​time thing and it was over a year ago. I guess not. They probably think way too highly of themselves to think they don’t need any more business. What a joke!
(By the way, I just called Media City Animal Hospital in Burbank. Dr. Liz was also recommended to me by two people. They were busy too, but still managed to handle my phone call with grace and immediately told me that Dr. Liz didn’t have an appointment for today (Saturday), but that she did for Monday. Also asked what was going on with my cat, what to watch out for, and where I can take him if it looks like he needs to be seen right away. What a difference from La Cañada Pet Clinic! I will review Media City once I have been there.)

The Dr’s knowledge rivals any so called «specialty groups «.
But if it’s an emergency and they are busy you better have a back up plan.

I came upon La Canada Pet Clinic because I was looking for someone to board our dog while we were away. I was so impressed by the staff and Doctors, that I made them our vet. The office is clean and everyone is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend them!

Going to the doctor is never a fun experience, whether it’s for ourselves or our fur children, but La Canada Pet Clinic definitely makes the process less painful. You find yourself greeted by a friendly staff, in a nice and clean spacious waiting room. Dr. Schultz has a calm, professional demeanor and my little Westie likes her. She is thorough, informative and takes the time to listen to any concerns. She will sit down with you and explain any problems that your pet might be experiencing, as well as treatment recommendations. She actually came into the office one Thanksgiving just to call and check on the status of my dog, who had been ill the previous day, and she wanted to make certain that she would be available in the office in case I needed to bring her back in. As it turned out, my dog was much improved and didn’t need to go to the office, but her caring and concern really impressed me. I would recommend her and La Canada Pet Clinic to anyone.

I want to take the opportunity to commend Dr Pershing and her wonderful staff on the care she took with my aging 16 year old dog Chelsea. She has always gone over and beyond her job as an EXCELLENT VET! She takes the time to explain every medical issue and always with compassion. I have trusted her with all my dogs and cats… I highly recommend her!!! Thank you Dr. Danielle Pershing :-)

After I got some very bad advice and a LARGE bill from my local vet, a friend referred me to Dr. Woody Walker. He put my mind at ease and gave me options, something the previous vet had not. A+ service in my opinion.

Dr Walker is such a great vet! He does so well with cats and dogs. I have been taking my pets to him since i was a little girl. He does amazing work and handles the animals and families so well! I couldn’t reccomend a better place to go!

We started here with a rescued cat years ago, and have now added another cat and a dog to our family. Dr. Walker is wonderful to work with, as is the front desk staff. They are always very accommodating, and return calls quickly if they get busy. While I have to agree that staff has improved over the years (a grumpy individual appears to have left), I’ve always liked the place a lot.
What impresses me most is that Dr. Walker listens to our concerns, and gives us thoughtful analysis, while being careful not to railroad us into any particular treatment for our pets. Our Australian Shepherd puppy has particular needs /​vulnerabilities, and Dr Walker pays close attention to those. You just can’t ask for any better from a vet. And his love for animals is readily apparent.
Unlike other vets I’ve been to in the past, I’ve never feel like treatment is being offered for my pets to generate revenue. On the contrary, both the staff and the vets here have discouraged tests and treatments that they deemed unnecessary.
As for the desk staff, I’m not sure what some recent Unilocalers here are complaining about. I’ve found the staff eager to fit us in when possible, and extremely, small-​town friendly. More than once, they have put us on a wait list for earlier appointments, and managed to fit us in. This is a very busy practice, and I don’t berate them for their success. It’s well-​deserved. We won’t take our pets anywhere else.

Staff has been amazing in my latest outings. Trust me, my dog is sick and I am here about once a month!!! Still love Dr. Schultz. She goes above and beyond for her patients!!!

Dr Schultz has been our vet for 15+ years (10 yrs from her previous practice and the last 5 at this clinic). The office has great service and the staff, friendly and courteous. Dr Schultz is a very compassionate and straight-​forward vet. She gives thorough exams and our dog, Bruin, loves her dearly.

Dr. Walker is amazing! Our dog had to have a major surgery, and Dr. Walker took such great care of our dog and he was so encouraging during the whole process. He didn’t make things sound worse than they were and he didn’t make them sound better, he told it as it was. The surgery ended up not being as expensive as anticipated and that was awesome! The front desk staff, although busy and sometimes a bit short with the customers, so honestly care for each and every pet and will call to make sure that your pet is doing alright. I would not hesitate to bring any of my pets back to La Canada Pet Clinic.

We adopted a kitten from a litter from La Canada Pet Clinic. When we came to adopt our kitty, it was almost as tough as going through a job interview. No doubt, the staff at LCPC did not want to give out their pets just to anyone. They were very careful in choosing the «soon to be parents» to the kittens.
The staff and particularly Dr Pershing is the most caring veterinarian we’ve encountered. We just picked up our kitten from surgery after being spayed. Our kitty was kept over for two nights. I’m so thankful they kept her for two nights because she certainly needed time to rest post-​op, be monitored & control any post-​op pain.
The staff encouraged us to call the afternoon on day of surgery and morning after surgery to check up on her. Dr Pershing called us after the surgery & answered any & all questions we had.
When we picked up our kitty, there was no doubt she was spent & weak from surgery, but we know LCPC took great care of her during her stay. The sutures were clean & intact.
We’re so thankful to have found such caring veterinarian and staff.

My family has been bringing our pets here my whole life. I appreciate the connection we have with the clinic. I love how great Dr. Walker is with the pets and Dr. Schultz has been wonderful with my kitties. Everything about La Canada Pet Clinic is about that personal touch: birthday greetings for my pets, condolence cards, and check-​ins on what is happening with us AND the pets. They have never steered us wrong with our pets and I love that I can trust them

Only 1 star, yes! The lady who answered the phone wasn’t so nice. I ask for an appointment the same day and she has told me:“sorry, next appointment is in a week”. My dog most probably has an urinary infection so I ask if there is a way to get an appointment quicker… She said: «I’m sorry, the best I can do is to put you on our cancellation list»… NO THANKS! My dog was waiting for 3 days because of the labor day WE already, she will not wait 1 more week to see a vet! Such a joke!
It was the 1^st time and the last time I will call this place! The vets are maybe good (I don;t know), but please, change your reception staff!

Dr. Woody Walker is truly gifted with animals (he’s like the dog-​whisperer). I have 2 chow mixes who DO NOT like to go to vets, but I love Dr. Woody’s approach and my dogs seems to respond better to him than almost any other vets. Also, he doesn’t suggest lots of expensive tests and medicine. He’s very practical and I really appreciate that!

Decided to take my new puppy here after reading reviews on Unilocal and have been nothing but happy with the level of service and care for my pet. The front desk staff is always very friendly and always happy to answer any questions I may have. I’ve only had to wait for longer than 10 minutes when I called last minute and they squeezed me in.
If I need to go in to see the vet (on occasions where he needs more than shots) we see Dr. Pershing. Her love for animals really shows and our dog absolutely loves her. He is never scared to go to come here and is always welcomed with lots of pets and smiles.
I’m so thankful to have found a great place to take my dog and I will continue to do so over his life. It may be a little pricey, but top notch care is, so I don’t mind.

Dr. Pershing is a fantastic vet. We brought our GSD in, not sure what was going on with him, but certain that something was seriously wrong. Turns out he had an intestinal blockage from sneakily eating his rope toy.
We were very impressed by the amount of time Dr. Pershing spent getting our dog comfortable with her, the exam she performed, and the time she spent explaining her diagnosis and treatment approach with us. He had to spend the night for observation, and Dr. Pershing called us first thing in the morning to let us know how he was doing, and to schedule an appointment to walk through the x-​rays in detail. When we looked at all of the x-​rays, Dr. Pershing was great to alert us to some incidental findings on the x-​ray images.
We recently moved to the area so are happy to have found a wonderful, caring, and reliable vet to go to from now on.

I rescued a puppy, so I called to make an appointment before picking her up. Their next available was a week away. I got there and I thought the front desk staff was nice. The doctor we saw was very gentle and obviously liked dogs.
But, here’s my problem. During the few days I had the puppy, I felt as though she was lethargic and a little off. I told the doctor this and she said the dog was perfectly healthy blew it off as if I was crazy. She noted that the puppy was thin, which she was hesitant to tell me in case I overreacted. I had brought a stool sample, which I left with them. The exam was $ 50, stool test was $ 38.
The next day, I get a call telling me me that the puppy had three different parasites/​worms. When I researched, I came to find out that the lethargic nature, being thin and other symptoms were all common symptoms of these parasites. The vet said the pup would need to be put on two different meds. I asked if there were any side effects, she said these meds do not normally have side effects. I asked if they could send the prescription to another place, so I wouldn’t have to drive out there, she said no. I trekked it out there to pick up the meds. $ 28 for both.
Went through three weeks for the two meds. At the end of it, the dog started having diarrhea. I checked back in and they said that was probably a side effect of the meds (I thought there were no side effects?) After a few weeks completing the meds, she still had stool issues. Went back and was told one of the parasites was probably back without retesting and started her on that med again. After a few weeks, it still wasn’t resolved.
I took the pup to another vet for a second opinion. They tested her and she did not have the parasite that she had been retreated for. They said if the stool isn’t extracted and tested right away, the results are questionable. Since I brought in the sample, they guessed that La Canada Pet Clinic probably did a visual diagnosis, which has a high rate of being wrong. They did find that she still had the other parasite, which probably wasn’t eliminated because of the wrong dosage. She is being treated for that, but the poor puppy has been suffering for 12 weeks.

this is the first pet clinic i’ve ever been to, so i can’t really compare it to other veterinary offices, but i’ve brought my cat in twice so far and both experiences were pleasant and not too hard on the wallet. the veterinarians (both female) were very good with my cat, which really matters to me and at the same time is impressive because my cat can be difficult at times, especially when in a scary unfamiliar place.
i plan to continue bringing my cat here on a regular basis, hopefully just for checkups and not for anything more serious!

I use to work here many years ago. Since my departure, I still take my dog here. I trust the veterinarians.
The veterinarians don’t try to push treatments and tests to make money.
The staff truly cares for the pets.
The clinic is bright, airy, and very very clean. It doesn’t smell like dirty animals like some pet clinics.
I still come here and that should say something about this business.
