History
Established in 2003.
Seeds Bistro and Bar is housed in the historic Tillinghast Seed Company, the oldest seed business in the Northwest, from 1890 until 2003, when Seeds Bistro and Bar was established. The Tillinghast Seed Company was the center of farming activities in the county for many generations. The big beautiful Beech tree behind the building was planted in 1890! As the owner, Linda, I have always loved this building and the surrounding farmland. The smell of freshly plowed rich soil, the sweet, sweet smell of spinach seed blossoms and the fields after pea harvest are fragrances dear to my memory. Guess that’s the reason I decided that I had to open a restaurant here that needed to honor and promote our beautiful Skagit Valley. The Skagit Valley produces 100% of the nation’s rutabaga, parsnip and brussel sprouts, 85% of the nation’s red table beet seed, 50% of the world’s commercial cabbage seed. We will feature these products from local northwest growers whenever possible.

Business Owner
You’ve probably heard that saying «that so and so has a white thumb.» Well, that’s me! As a young girl I spent a lot of time baking with my grandmother, who was a school baker and with my mom, who made some great pies. It wasn’t long before I was making my own masterpieces and experimenting with different recipes. My early love of baking and cooking lead me to major in Hotel & Restaurant Management at W.S.U., with summers spent working at various restaurants. After graduation I worked for Sky Chef, an airline catering company, working out of their Tulsa location for about a year. Then came marriage to my college sweetheart, Rod, birth of our daughter Hilary and a short career in real estate. I opened my first Calico Cupboard Café & Bakery in 1981. I was the baker and cook in those days. A second Calico was opened in Anacortes in 1992, followed by a Calico in Mount Vernon in 1996 and in 2004 Seed’s Bistro and Bar, located in the historic Tillinghast Seed Co.‘s origional building.
