Bard’s Decorator Custom Shop

I’m glad I went to Bards. First of all I ignore one star reviews from people who haven’t transacted with a Business because how can you review someone you haven’t actually done business with? So now that I’ve ground that ax I can share my experience. I took my cushions in and Carl had just hurt himself pretty badly and despite my telling him to please get his cut under control and not worry about my cushions he insisted it was no big deal. He asked what I wanted to do-​and sang the sweet praises of Sunbrella. Gosh Carl. running over to grab sample books and calculating yardage? Seriously Dude what about a little self preservation? Anyhow after looking at swatches I knew I wanted to do something out of the box and told him I was off to hunt for oilcloth.
Anyhow I found the perfect fabric and despite warnings about how it wasn’t ideally suited for the job Carls Sister magically cut my narrow naughty fabric and whipped out the job in two days. Yep two days. Aside from the great service and awesome quality job she vented the seating so it wasn’t like flopping on an overinflated air mattress or whoopie cushion. I was lucky that I happened to get my sofa redone in such an unrealistic turnaround time of course but my timing was good I guess. These guys are BUSY and if they hadn’t surprised me with such quick work I’d gladly wait
the usual several weeks other shops have taken in the past.
Don’t expect your job in two days kids-I’m sure it was a fluke. Be a nice Customer and let Bards do your work.

We had two ottomans that we needed to get reupholstered. I got estimates from a few places and thought I’d get one more from Bard’s seeing as we live right in Bird Rock and it would be convenient. I stopped by when Carl was out at a client’s house but left a message with my name and number. He called back a few hours later and I took the ottomans in for him to look at and get an estimate. I already had gotten one estimate from someone else for $ 250 in labor plus fabric at $ 30/​yard and would need 3 – 4 yards. Carl helped me pick out a fabric and the total amount with labor AND fabric was $ 250. I was very happy with that and he told me they’d be done in a week. He called two days later to let me know they were done. I am VERY pleased with the quality, Carl’s customer service and the price. I’m not sure why others have said they’ve had issues with Bard’s — our experience was great. Also, they seem to be VERY busy there so that’s a great sign that they have many satisfied customers.

well at least i’m not the only one… exact same experience as Victoria B, no joke! Called and let them know what i was looking for, Carl came to get some measurements and he left a book to flip through. After we decided what colors we wanted, we went back to the store to see about moving forward and getting it done. Carl said he would call in a couple of days to confirm the price and let us know when he’d be done with it. That never happened. I called once, spoke to the woman and left a message and never got a return call. I’ve since left THREE more messages, all with no return.
Perhaps it’s because i’m not in the bird rock click, i don’t know Anyway, i wouldn’t invest/​waste your time.

I am absolutely thrilled with the beautiful job that Carl had done by his upholsterers on a sweet «ladies chair» that belonged to my wonderful mother that died when I was only twelve years old… I decided to cover it in a fabric that she too would have possibly chosen, and a fabric that is fun and reminds me of my special childhood.
I am 100 percent satisfied with the meticulous work. My friend and neighbor suggested I contact Carl for the job since she was very happy with the different jobs he did for her.
In all honesty, Carl did lag a bit in getting back with me to order the fabric but I am giving him a top rating because he did an outstanding job, his price was very fair, and he called to tell me he completed the job sooner than promised!!! I gave the chair to them on Monday and received a call on Thursday for pick up!!! He had other jobs but squeezed me in.
Going to Bard’s is going back in time to a family owned shop with honest, eager to please owners who take pride in their work!!!
I will, without question, return to Carl for my next project.

Called these folks this morning and the woman who answered the phone was very polite and helpful! A nice change form some upholstery places. She took my name and number and said that Carl (the upholsterer) would call me and come check out my chair that I wanted recovered for free, give me an estimate, and we could go from there! He came by, took a look at my chair, asked what color I was thinking, and said he’d be back in a few days with some swatches for me to look at and choose. If I chose a swatch of fabric that was already in store that would lower my overall cost.
UNFORTUNATELY these people disappeared off the face of the planet after coming to evaluate my chair. I have called numerous times and have never heard back from them. I am incredibly disappointed.
