Just checking out today nice location close to everything very clean and the staff is friendly and welcoming. It could use a few updates as far as the rooms are concerned but it isn’t a 5 star resort so it isn’t really expected. I would stay here again when I’m in the area.

I stayed here about a week ago while visiting from Florida. I checked in early and was very happy to hear that there was a room available. During my stay one of the elevators was being repaired so only one was working which really wasn’t an issue at all.
We stayed on the second floor and had a king size bed. The room was very clean and there was little noise. The rooms were cleaned pretty early which wasn’t a problem most days as we were gone eating beakfast by 8:00 am but one day it was only 8:30 am and someone was already knocking on the door to clean it!
One perk I really liked was the free coffee every day in the afternoons. It’s also super close to the waterfront, shopping areas, and popular restaurants. I would stay here again when visiting La Jolla. I was very pleased with our stay.

I got bedbug bite all over my body and it swallen pretty bad. I stayed 1 night there room 331 I couldnt sleep up for all night well obviously cuz of the the bedbug it was itchy and gotta scratch my body when I check out told front desk said we paid already so cannot do any thing about it. and she told manager said there r going to investigate the room and will call but never got any call back from them… very dissapointing and Im still scratching my body.

No Longer owned by Best Western. We had a block of rooms for a wedding this past March. Anne Marie, Group Manager, is an absolute STAR! The staff, the location, the service — were all excellent. We even had a brunch brought in from Whole Foods on Sunday. Great group rates, rooms, accommodating staff — made for a really wonderful experience. I even left my sun glasses in the room and called a week later and they mailed them out to me. Amazing! JoyceM

Quality service and prompt professionalism was an overall amazing experience we had.
1. Very Professional & Reliable
*We had set a hotel room block at this hotel far in advance with Ann Marie, Hotel Manager.
She was very thorough, prompt in replying in emails, and very accommodating with our hotel room block dates especially as our hotel reservations were in high peak time in Spring.
2. Friendly & Warm Staff
*The hotel staff were friendly and warm to our hotel guests that were traveling to and from Hawaii. The staff informed the guests of all the restaurants and amenities to acclimate them to the surroundings. In addition, they accommodated cot beds to the rooms for the extra unexpected guests.
3. Rooms & Renovations
*The room sizes and quality of the mattress were comfortable to have guests over as well as have a fun sleepover.
*The shower and bathroom may be a little smaller, but all of the equipment was up to date. No leaks and damages!
*The small fridge was perfect for snacking and late night munchies.
4. Parking Garage
*Anne Marie waved the DAILY parking fee for our guests! This alone sold me to have the hotel room block here.
*There’s a plethora of parking spaces in the garage below, which leads easily into the hotel.
5. Close Approximately to Everything
*The hotel was conveniently located to bed and breakfast restaurants, shops, beaches, and other walking distance activities.
I’m really glad I chose this hotel for its location, affordability, and professional service!

I passed by this hotel several times while driving through La Jolla but never paid much attention to it. It sort of blended in with the rest of the stores, boutiques and other hotels in the area.
However, I had the chance to stay here recently because I was attending a wedding in the area and the bride and groom blocked off some rooms for guests since this hotel was close to the wedding venue. It was convenient because it was only about a 10 minute or less drive to the Darlington House, where the ceremony and reception were held.
There are lots of great features about this hotel and it has basic amenities (free wifi, iron and ironing board, free guest parking with parking passes). The parking lot is actually deceptively big. While the front parking area is somewhat limited, there’s additional parking in the rear of the hotel and there’s even more stalls underground. Complimentary breakfast is included with your stay (coffee, tea, oatmeal, fruit, pancake maker, pastries and dry cereals). The breakfast area is a little out of the way (by the pool area) but it’s nice that the hotel has complimentary breakfast, since many places don’t.
The rooms available to us either came with one king sized bed or two twins. My particular room came with two twins, which worked out well because I was sharing the room with two other people. There was ample space in the closet since we were only staying for the weekend, and the sink was located outside of the toilet/​shower area. That was convenient because someone could still use the mirror/​wash their hands while another person was using the bathroom.
One of the services I enjoyed the most from this hotel was the complimentary coffee and tea available in the afternoon in the lobby. They had hot coffee as well as instructions to make your own iced coffee. I never did this myself before but it was a fun process — and my custom drink turned out pretty good.
From the rooms we were in, we could see a little of the coast but mostly the restaurants and shops across the street. While this isn’t the cheapest hotel around, it was convenient for the weekend and it’s great if you’re planning to stick around the area (it’s within walking distance of many of the shops and restaurants).
If your room key doesn’t work eventually, it may just be because it was too close to your phone and something affected the magnetic strip. And, the complimentary wifi code is on the key packet when you check in.

This hotel was so perfect! Beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, and free wifi and breakfast! The entire staff was super friendly and accommodating, and I felt comfortable during my entire stay. The pool is not anything fancy and there isn’t a jacuzzi, but it’s heated and there is a beautiful seating area right next to the pool. Plus the pool was conveniently located right next to the plethora of vending machines in the snack lounge. Also, there’s free coffee in the lobby all day long. Definitely perfect for the price and the occasion.

Don’t let the name fool you; this establishment is really a hotel and is better maintained than an inn is. I was a little skeptical before arrival when the company booked our stay here because old reviews on Expedia and TripAdvisor were mixed and mediocre at best. Formerly a Best Western Plus, I believe a private party owner bought it and did a major renovation and overhaul. I was so pleasantly surprised by how nice this place is now! The rooms are clean, the beds are very comfortable, and basic amenities and toiletries are all provided. The front desk staff is friendly and accommodating at both checkin and checkout.
Inn by the Sea is located right by the main La Jolla Cove action is where all the popular restaurants and retail shops are. But with that also comes pretty much the only con here keeping me from giving 5 stars; the hefty $ 12 parking fee per night is overpriced considering there is plenty of free street parking from 6pm to 8am all around the block. Nevertheless, I’d still recommend a short stay here since the nightly room rate is reasonable for this area of town and for what you’re getting.

Where do I start?!! My wife and I got married in La Jolla at Cuvier park and us and our guests stayed here. We don’t have any complaints! They were more than accommodating for any requests we had and went above and beyond to make sure our planning and stay was easy and relaxing! Complimentary breakfast was perfect and location is walking distance to everything in La Jolla. The staff was wonderful! The only thing this hotel is missing is a shuttle to and from the airport. We would recommend this place to every body!

We were very happy to have blocked off 24 rooms with the Best Western Plus at La Jolla. The staff was very polite and courteous. The email communications were plenty and timely when our guests booked with our wedding group. The rates were very competitive with the other hotels in the area. The hotel staff took great care to ensure all welcome bags were handed to guests as they checked in. The hotel some cool interior décor and a glass elevator with a view outside.

We arrived tired and exhausted. Driving through LA and into San Diego will do that. We arrived to no reservations. I checked and I’d inadvertently made reservation for the wrong dates. The very helpful Jose got us our room anyways and it was $ 20 cheaper than the online site.
Another pleasant surprise was to walk into our room and look around in amazement. It was delightfully freshly renovated and very tastefully done I might add. The note in the room mentioned their dust and said renovations to the hotel would be finished in Jan of 2016.

LOVED this hotel for so many reasons: The staff was above and beyond helpful and personable, and: Location, location, location! Five minute walk to the BEAUTIFUL coastline, about four or five blocks to a grocery store and movie theater, very close to high end restaurants and shops, and still a reasonable walking distance for less costly places to eat. The room was clean, everything «worked» and the complimentary breakfast even included fresh melon! I highly recommend this hotel, and would stay there again in an instant…

Probably the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. My husband and I got stuck in a room that used to be a «smoking room.» My asthma symptoms went nuts while we stayed there and I couldn’t sleep. Even though the room was a reasonable price, we def won’t be staying at this hotel again. Also, the «pack n’ play» is really a cheap wooden crib. Your baby or toddler will be miserable sleeping in it.

Enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay again! Friendly front desk whenever I called prior to my stay. Loved the complimentary breakfast and water in the room. The pillowtop mattresses were also very comfortable to sleep on. The location is fantastic; the coves are a 10 minute walk one direction and there are restaurants and high end shopping 10 minutes the other direction. There was loud construction about a block away on Saturday morning and horrible phone service in my room, but these are things outside of the management’s control.
The wifi is very troublesome as you have to sign in every time you’re in the hotel and it lags often. I also reported that my shower was dripping, and 24 hours later it had not been fixed. It did not affect the quality of my stay much, but you’d think that with the drought, a water leak would be high on the hotel maintenance’s to-​do list. When I checked out, the manager credited me $ 55 because of the shower, which was a very pleasant surprise.

My friend and I came here last weekend for a quick overnight vacation. We arrived at the hotel a few hours before check-​in time, and asked if we could check in early. Though our room was not ready yet, the staff made it a priority to get it ready as quickly as possible. We went to grab brunch at a nearby restaurant, and by the time we were back, our room was ready (still a couple hours before actual check-​in time). Later that night, we realized that we didn’t have a cork screw for our wine, so we asked the front desk if they‘happened to have one, not thinking they would. Turns out, they have a bunch of free ones for guests! Overall I was impressed with the level of hospitality we received during this stay.

My brother books a stay for three nights. He said something about an old credit card ending in whatever and then kicked us out of our hotel we booked and offered a hotel that was way more expensive a few doors down. Not a good place to go and stay.

Nice place in a super location, getting a long overdue update. But aside, decent and clean place with a helpful front desk.

The room was clean but a bit run down. Apparently they are in the process of remodeling the rooms and our room was not yet remodeled. We did get a room with a view which was nice. Overall, my stay was pleasant and would probably return if I was in la jolla again.

Pros: Great location!, good price for the area, nice staff, tidy clean rooms (if a smidge worn around the edges), parking price was ok ($ 12 per day), nice touches like daily chocolates and water bottle.
Cons: kinda noisy from elevator, all the beds were hard (we moved from one room to another after prolonging stay one more night), and the pillows were too fluffy — I prefer a squishy pillow, apparently! Didn’t sleep well. Spotty wifi.
Couple problems with the room — no batteries for the remote, and the sink drain wouldn’t release, but the staff rectified them quickly and pleasantly.

We had a nice time and the heated pool was fun. The service was good and I recomend getting a map. The beds were comfortable and the mints they leave arent nice. The town is nice with good restaurants and walking distance to many beaches.

Everything was near perfect. Breakfast was about as good as I’ve had for continental. The afternoon coffee/​ice coffee was great in the lobby each afternoon. 2 free water bottles provided day with room service. Short 5 minute walk to the beach. Parking is 12 a day. Would stay here again. Beach view rooms might be a consideration if you want to see the sunset without leaving your room. Karl Strauss brewing company is close by.

The hotel is in a fantastic location, in a quiet, upscale La Jolla business district.
The room was clean and tidy, the staff was polite and they offered chocolate on the nightstand, free bottled water each day, free breakfast and free access to a gym directly across the street (which opens at 5am and which was easy and safe to access on foot).
The neighborhood was really cute! Lots of high-​end shops and art galleries, and local bars, cafés and restaurants. We enjoyed our after-​dinner stroll.
The hotel is undergoing renovation so there is construction noise; there was a $ 12 daily parking charge (try parking on the street after 6pm if you can).
But the perks make this a spot to which I would certainly return.

Don’t stay

One of the noisiest hotels I’ve stayed in. Toilets from other room sound like jet engines in the middle the night. Garbage trucks come well be for 8 AM loading dumpsters right outside your windows. No restaurant. Showers have no pressure and water temp fluctuates randomly. Only thing positive is the beds are comfortable.

I had my wedding a block away and called the best western for quotes. Ann Marie is the most incredibly patient and detail oriented manager of all time. The newly remodeled rooms were incredible and so clean and the view was beyond beautiful. The staff tolerated our crazy party. And the food coffee and amenities were perfect. The only mar to our week here was the elevator broke down and I walked down 5 flights of stairs in my weddkng dress but but became a highlight of story telling and something we can laugh about now.
Thank you best western inn by the sea we will show our loyalty to you by staying here each and every time we are in San Diego!!!

This is a nice hotel located right in the heart of La Jolla. It’s near the downtown businesses, ocean, and other great attractions, and the price is pretty reasonable relative to other hotel locations in San Diego. We had an EXCELLENT experience with the staff, as they were all extremely courteous, helpful, and accommodating.
A couple downsides: they charge $ 12 for parking, which I always hate paying for. We ended up parking on the street for our stay, though, which meant that got waived. The hotel is also older and in need of a face lift. While it’s great that you can’t really hear other guests talking, etc in their rooms, it is still a rather noisy experience since the hotel itself makes lots of noise (people above you walking, water flowing in the pipes, trash cans outside, sliding doors opening and closing…
All in all the stay was a pleasant experience and we slept great, despite a little noise. They had a lot of extras for us, including chocolates, water bottles, tea, etc.

There were a couple notable issues with this location; mainly to do with check-​in experience, esthetics, and food. When I checked in, I wasn’t given the normal general information that most hotels would provide right up front (i.e. about breakfast and parking). I was very off-​put by this experience. I felt that because this location is in a great location that they will always have business and that it is OK to slack on the hospitality. When it came to parking, the location is right in the Downtown La Jolla, which you know, will have parking issues. We were only told of available parking spots when I had asked a friend to scope out the surrounding areas, the information was not given right off the bat by the receptionist.
In addition, the receptionist had to emboss or make a copy of my credit card details with the CVN information. Per the PCI DSS regulations, no merchant is allowed to store the CVN value, whether it is electronically or physically. This is sensitive data which I felt was taken/​store in a very non-​PCI compliant way. When questioned why this was necessary, it was for auditing purposes for their accountant. But they already swiped the card, which should be proof enough for a card-​present transaction. I felt their whole credit card system was very antiqued.
The elevators were a bit odd. There were two elevators that weren’t directly adjacent to each other and so you have to push the button for both elevators and hop on the one that came first.
There was no mention of the continental breakfast. Only reason why I knew about it was that I was told of it when I booked my reservation. I feel like that would be something you would mention to guests as they check-​in. As for the breakfast itself, I did not expect something extravagant but I also didn’t expect the quality of the food to be that terrible. The eggs were grainy and dry. The waffle sticks were burnt. And the bread/​pastry was stale.

Nous né gardons que d’excellents souvenirs de cet hôtel qui mérite d’être mieux coté que ce qu’il est actuellement! Très très bien situé, à cinq minutes de la mer à pied! Chambre très spacieuse avec vue sur le Pacifique (faites-​en la demande lors de votre réservation, ça en vaut vraiment la peine)! Personnel très courtois (merci tout spécial à monsieur Sheldon Joyner pour ce qu’il a fait pour rendre notre séjour absolument inoubliable), vraiment, ce séjour au Best Western Plus Inn by the Sea (les 22 et 23 juillet) était de première classe! On recommande… fortement!
We keep only good memories of this hotel that deserves way more credit than it shows! Very well located, five minutes walk from the sea! Very spacious room with views of the Pacific (make the request when making your reservation, it is well worth it)! Very friendly staff (special thanks to Mr. Sheldon Joyner for what he did to make our stay absolutely unforgettable), really, this stay at the Best Western Plus Inn by the Sea (on July 22 and 23) was first class! We strongly recommend!

I have stayed this hotel a number of times and each stay has been perfect! Now, this place is a Best Western not the Ritz Carlton so there are certain bells and whistles that aren’t present BUT for what you pay ($ 150 per night) they go above and beyond my expectations! The room, lobby, hallways are neat and clean, there is always some little treat in the lobby like fruit or iced coffee and the employees were helpful and friendly.
When I stay somewhere I’m looking for a few key things: a CLEAN and comfortable room with a view, soft beds and bedding, and a location that is within walking distance to attractions (in this case the beach!). I’ve stayed here multiple times because I can always count on getting ALL of my needs met here. Like I said, it’s not a super fancy hotel (like Torrey Pines Lodge) but you aren’t paying $ 300-​$ 400 per night either! :)

Love the location! It is literally a block away from the beach and from the main street. Walking distance to everything. The staff is friendly and check in was quick and easy. The lobby is modern and sheik. Parking is $ 12 a day.
However, the rooms are a bit dated. The décor, carpet, furnishings and the paintings on the wall made me feel as if I was in the 80’s. The only modern thing in the room is the flat screen TV. The internet is super slow and spotty. Lastly, no gym! Nearest gym is a block away, $ 18 a day.
They provide complimentary breakfast, Seattle’s Best Coffee in the lobby and bottled waters in the room. Basically, if you are planning a romantic weekend getaway, I would not recommend this place. If they revamped the rooms, this place would get five stars. The location cannot be beat.
