Bibby’s Crepe Cafe

Place sucks. Service is terrible! Bunch of college girls who should be life guards for the elderly. It’s an embarrassment to the French. The batter is so bland, nothing is crispy.
How I long for real Crepes.
I told my wife to enjoy the thing she called a crêpe because it’s the last time we’re coming here.

This place is closed!

Both sweet and savory here are yummmmy! I can never decide and just have to order one of every time I come.
For Savory, love the Baby Brie. But there are plenty of delicious & vegetarian options!
They have a variety of fruit, nutella, chocolate-​y and combo sweet crepes here. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these
Relaxed and casual diner atmosphere.

I felt like crepes for lunch so we went there. I read the reviews once there. Not too encouraging. We ordered a spinach crêpe and dessert crêpe. The special sauce on the savory crêpe was disgusting. I scraped it off and then it was edible. Staff were very friendly but the sauce they are so proud of really sucks. Place was empty at lunchtime while the restaurant next door was packed. This is not a good restaurant.

another place we’ve passed many times over the years but never tried. it was beautiful day and we wanted to take something near the ocean. we first looked at the menu outside and saw something that looked very promising. belgian waffle with chocolate sauce, fresh whip and a scoop of vanilla custard.
we waited quite a bit even though there was only one other diner in the place. got the order and about ¼ mile away we looked inside and there was no vanilla custard so we drove back. when we got to the beach and looked at the waffle it was a pretty big belgian waffle. a belgian or even liege waffle which this was not is about 4″ x 4″ and this was more like 8″ x 8″. the texture and density wasn’t right from the moment we cut it. the texture was more like a pancake it was soft and not crispy at all. the guy in the kitchen did say that he had trouble with the first and second batch probably due to the waffle iron not being hot enough or the waffle being to big. if that were the case why not say something or say can we make you the crêpe version instead because we wanted a crispy waffle and not waffel pancake.
maybe it was just the time of day we came which was an hour before closing, maybe we caught them on an off day, we don’t know. one thing though that custard was killer and they should sell it as a scoop to go on a sugar cone, cause vanilla custard is another thing that’s hard to find out here. or they can sell it three scoops with side of espresso that you can pour into bowl. that would be even better.

My girl friends and I decided to catch up over some brunch on Veteran’s Day and one of them suggested having crepes at Bibby’s. At first we weren’t sure if they were opened because it looked dark and empty inside. However, after we parked (residential streetside parking is the way to go in downtown La Jolla) and checked it out, the one waitress working there greeted us warmly and let us sit anywhere we want since we were the only customers there.
Bibby’s is cute and the décor looks like an old school diner but cozy nontheless. The only problem I would say is that a lot of the chairs had some kind of food bits on them and the tables all looked greasy before our waitress wiped it down. It’s a little surprising given how there was no one in there so I would think the people there would have plenty of time to tidy things up.
Anyway, my friends and I decided to each get a savory crêpe and share a sweet one for our meal.
La Pacifique (
) — This crêpe was ginormous and very tasty! Loaded with smoked salmon, melted brie (yum!), spinach, mushrooms, and Bibby’s «Special Sauce» (creamy sauce with garlic and spice flavors), the La Pacifique left me feeling extremely full but healthy! If I weren’t so hungry, I probably could have split this crêpe in half and only ate half for a meal and saved the other for leftovers, which means more meals for my buck!
Strawberry and Banana Crêpe (
) — Splitting this with my two other girl friends was a good idea because this crêpe was huge! Stuffed with fresh strawberries and bananas, this crêpe was finished with perfection with chocolate, rich vanilla cream, and whipped cream. Even though we thought we were full, we quickly realized that our stomachs will always make room for dessert… especially for a crêpe like this!
My friend ordered a savory crêpe that was loaded with veggies and eggs in it (I can’t remember its exact name), but that crêpe was even bigger than my Pacifique! I had a few bites and It was also quite delicious as well.
Bibby’s may look like a sleepy little diner, but its crepes will certainly jump-​start your day!

Unfortunately I cannot rate this place and their crepes as 2 times we tried to visit this place they were closed over 1 hour before their posted business hours. Keep in mind we are driving from Orange County, CA. It is not just a simple bike ride. When trying to call, the phone number is not valid? After reading some reviews it seems like this is a common issue.
Maybe one day!

Found this by accident when we couldn’t find a bagel shop. We came back the next day again! :). Large portions of sweet and savory creeps. My oldest daughter had the Strawberry Surprise two days in a row (nutella & strawberries).
My youngest daughter and I split a Belgian waffle the first day and we didn’t even finish half of it! My hubby brought the leftover waffle to work, popped it in the toaster and he said it tasted just like it was freshly made. I shared the Peasant crêpe with my youngest daughter the second day (eggs, bacon, potatoes, grilled onions and their yummy Bibby’s sauce, like a spicy aioli)…it was YUMMY! Usually I like sweet crepes but I was impressed with the portion and taste. Definitely will be back!

A friend from church recommended Bibby’s for a spontaneous crêpe run after coffee hour. My friend and I shared the Pear and Belgium Chocolate crêpe. First off, the crêpe took forever to arrive considering that we got our order in well before the rush! Second, the ratio of chocolate to pear was just bad. There was an overwhelming amount of chocolate in the crêpe and not nearly enough pear. I actually couldn’t even really taste the pear. It would have been so much more enjoyable and balanced with triple the portion of pear (there really was that little). The crêpe was a tad bit chewy but overall just so-​so.
The friend who recommended Bibby’s ordered a savory Baby Brie crêpe and his was SO much better than the one we ordered. I hate when that happens –_​– lol. His crêpe was so much crispier and the flavors were so yummy. On the off chance there is a next time and I’m in the mood for a sweet crêpe, I’m sticking with a nutella filled crêpe because I can actually enjoy globs of that, otherwise I will stick to the savory menu.

After my last review, Anthony — the owner — contacted me to tell me that Bibby’s Crêpe Café is under new management. He assured me that my next visit will not disappoint.
I finally went back to Bibby’s today with part trepidation that it has not improved and with part excitement to have delicious Farmer’s Market crepes. The verdict is… that it is just as good as that of the vendor’s! My Peasant was absolutely stunning visually and equalled it in taste. I could taste the smoky bacon and crisp potatoes as well as the yummy sauce that I had been missing for the past couple of months.
Now I won’t have to wait in line for an HOUR at Farmer’s Markets just to get Bibby’s… I can just happily come here for a blissful time.

NICE! The best belgian waffle I have ever had. Hands down.
Nice venue in La Jolla. Fresh food, clean and very friendly service. We went on a weekday morning and were seated immediately.
Will do it again next time we’re in La Jolla!

I love Bibby’s Crêpe Café!!! Although I have not visited the restaurant, I go every weekend to the Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market to get a delicious banana nutella buckwheat crêpe. Bibby and her son are very sweet and their crepes are as authentic as it gets!
Their salty crepes are also great. Only flaw is that they fry the eggs on the same pan as they do pork, so I cannot order their salty crepes because of dietary restrictions. But of course if they changed this I would definitely be a big fan of those too!
Visit their location in La Jolla or at the Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market. Totally worth it and totally delicious.

After a long time contemplating at the menu, I ordered the Banana Special. One suggestion is to put pictures on the menu, it’ll help people decide on what to order. The crêpe looked soggy when it arrived, but it was absolutely delicious! There are lots of bananas inside and a whole layer of nutella.
The store is pretty small and a bit far from the La Jolla shores area. There are lots of Tin Tin posters on the wall which I thought was cute, although it seems to have nothing to do with crepes

With one bite of their crêpe, I was in love. My first Bippy’s crêpe was at the Scripps Ranch Farmers Market. The line was long, but well worth it.
You can choose between savory crepes or sweet crepes. Savory crepes start at $ 9 and the sweet crepes start at $ 3. We ordered a California crêpe which had turkey, avocado, spinach, and cheese. Portions were generous and enough to share between two people. It was so yummy! Mmmmm…
The sweet crepes looked equally delicious. The strawberries looked so ripe and sweet. They were very generous with the amount of strawberries they were putting on the crêpe. I will definitely try this the next time i come here.

I liked Californian the most out of the 3 savory crepes I tried,
but I liked them all that I would definitely come back here if I had any cravings for crepes. Their Strawberry Banana Crêpe (Sweet Crêpe) was pretty good as well. Not overly sweet :]
Their crepes range around $ 8~10 & the portions are pretty huge.
I also liked the fact that their hot teas were loose tea-​leaves bags
(for those who are tea lovers) :]
Other things about this place: No parking lots available. Good luck w/​the street parking. More of a hole-​in-​the-​wall/​small mom&pop shop. So, don’t expect a nice fancy ambiance like the restaurants at La Jolla Shores.
I’m curious to try out the UCSD farmer’s market on Tues that some Unilocalers are mentioning, since they seem to agree that their crepes there are much better than the actual restaurant! Weird. But nonetheless, I would recommend this place for a breakfast/​brunch joint in SD :]

The first crêpe I ever had was when I was in high school. My French teacher was super into crepes and she would bring her crêpe makers in and we would have a party!
Well the crepes here are nothing like my HS memories. These are fancy pants crepes mais c’était juste ok. J’ai eu mieux. I had the baby brie with spinach crêpe and it was good but it needed something else. I sampled the salmon crêpe and sadly it was better than mine. boo hoo. I hate when I don’t have the better meal. Oh well. Next time I’ll go with the salmon crêpe or maybe one of the sweet dessert crepes.
I would give Bibby’s a higher rating if their establishment added a couple ceiling fans, it was pretty warm in there. I can only imagine how uncomfortable it gets in the summer, yuck!
The prices is about average. You can get out of there with a satisfied belly for about $ 12/​each including tip.

My boyfriend & I came here today because I’m not able to make it for Bibby’s crepes at UCSD on Tuesdays since I have class. :(
Well we were sadly disappointed… I told my waiter several times, No whip cream… got lots of whip cream & my boyfriend said no spinich on his omelette… he got spinich. It’s not like she didnt speak/​understand english. she was totally fluent… she didnt listen to any of our requests or the chef ignored it… either way, we were unhappy about that as it was and we were super disappointed it wasn’t even close to as good as when the nice lady & guy makes it for us at UCSD on Tuesdays. :(Crêpe didn’t have much in it at all. I ordered fruit & nutella crêpe (most delicious crêpe I’ve ever had when they come on Tues. at UCSD) but it was completely different & it was terrible. My bf’s omelette was wow… can’t describe how disappointing it was to look at or eat. The omelette’s at Denny’s is soooo much better. :/​
Never coming back here again & telling all my friends they should just stick to catching them with Tuesdays farmers markets.

There are 2 Bibby’s Crêpe Café on Unilocal,so I am not sure I am on the right one or not.
Anyways, Bibby’s came to UCSD farmer’s market regularly on Tuesday. I always love their crêpe because the portion is big! It’s 9 bucks, but you can make it for 2 meals!
I got Baby Brie this time, and I love the cheese! My friend got Peasant, and it has purple yam!!! My friend said it’s a little salty, but I think it’s okay! Probably different crepes have different ingredient.
I really like the service. They are very friendly, and they teach you how to pronounce crepes in French!

Had a delcious breakfast crêpe on a weekday afternoon and had the «bacon egg spinach mushroom» crêpe. It was a perfect light meal to start my day. I don’t remember the name but it was delicious! We were about the only ones in the place (5ppl) So service was quick and friendly. We found parking on a street around the corner.
When I’m down in SD again, I will be returning for some more.

What a great crêpe shop!
I went with a friend and I picked a savory crêpe and she had a dessert crêpe and we just shared. There was only one group there so we got helped very quickly and served fast as well. The savory crepes are very filling and I almost didn’t have room to have some of the dessert crêpe. There was nothing unique about this shop but it was definitely tasty.
