We provide treatment for a very wide range of problems or disorders. These include mild difficulties and common life challenges such as decision-making about career options, low self-esteem, or finding a life mate; moderate problems such as adjusting to divorce, breaking away from compulsive behaviors and habits, or overcoming a fear of driving on the freeway; and more pervasive or severe problems such as panic disorder, OCD, depression, or asperger’s disorder, and other autism spectrum disorders. We frequently offer group treatment for conditions such as panic disorder, social anxiety, depression, or OCD. We also provide relationship therapy for couples, families, and others. Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner
James L. Shenk has been the Director of The Cognitive Therapy Institute in San Diego since 1991. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at UCLA in 1988 and received 3 years of post-doctoral training under the supervision of Christine Padesky, Ph.D. Dr. Shenk is a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. He specializes in treatment of anxiety disorders and depression, with expertise in treatment of panic disorder, agoraphobia, social phobia, OCD, GAD, and PTSD. He has extensive experience with adults, children and adolescents as well as CBT with couples and families. Dr. Shenk is on the Adjunct Speakers Faculty of the Beck Institute and he taught CT and led supervision groups at CSPP in Alliant International University for 15 years. Dr. Shenk has supervised many licensed therapists at the Cognitive Therapy Institute since 1991 and has offered CBT continuing education workshops and trainings in California, Washington, Montana and Latin America.
