Tried to do a walk-in trim. Totally deserted. Guy was reading the paper. Said another customer had made an appointment in a half hour, and to come back tomorrow. I felt very valued, both a customer and person, when I walked out of there.

Terrific little place that does a great haircut for $ 15. You’re not going to chat it up with this barber b/c he can barely speak English. But he does a great job and then vacuums you up at the end! Great overall and I’d highly recommend.

This place is tiny and tucked away — one small room with two chairs and one great barber! He did a great job, and took his time perfecting my short hair. By far one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had, and really cheap, too!

This place is a little hidden, and the décor may pale in comparison to its neighboring shops, but the service is definitely excellent. I came in today for a haircut, only $ 14(not too bad compared to what you would get for a five minute job at Great Clips/Supercuts/The Haircutters). The haircut was exactly how I had expected, maybe even better. Unlike other barbers, he’s extremely gentle with your hair and scalp(I’ve had people from places like Sports Cuts who try to jam the clippers right into my scalp). Also, he is extremely skilled with attention to detail; he caught every mistake most other barbers leave with my hair. Really, this is one of the first times I left with a haircut and was proud of how well done it was. The place is a bit hidden, but if you find it it’s a definite must-go! He’s extremely nice too, so be sure to talk with him!

Disregard other reviews since they are old and Mr. Do bought the shop only in 2012. I like Mr. Do, whose shop is at 7760 Fay, Suite F(right next to the Empress Hotel), near Fay and Silverado. He only charges $ 14 and does an excellent job; Vietnam immigrant, very polite. Tell him I sent you. He is there Mon-Sat 9 – 6 and usually Sunday 11 to 3! 7 days a week, all by himself! More information: if you have a beard he will trim it for $ 5.00! Kids are $ 12.00. He takes a long time so go and relax there. Been going for 5 months now and he always says«Light trim, sir?» and I always say Yes… and get a normal haircut(to be clear to the reader: this is what I want, so I am not complaining).

Excellent haircut for an amazing price! When it comes to style, I’m a pretty picky guy — and am throughly impressed with the quality of my new cut. This tiny«dive» of a barber shop just opened off of Fay Street in La Jolla. The barber, «Mike» speaks rough English(but understand well enough). The shop is basic, no frills. When I first sat down, I was a little scared. The decorating is so bad it’s comical. But, I explained the cut I wanted, and Mike got to work. At first Mike’s cutting style did not inspire a lot of confidence, but once I figured out that he is a perfectionist, I started to relax. Unlike most barbers that cut fast and confidently — Mike is slow and methodical. He took incredibly great care trimming and tweaking my hair to perfection. At the end, he asked if I wanted«gel»? When I replied«yes» he styled my hair with spray on Suave gel(from the grocery store) sprayed onto a comb — but(to my utter surprise) my hair looked great. . It’s been three days, and I’ve gotten so many compliments I can hardly believe it! My wife is thrilled and loves my new look. A hair snob(who goes to pricey salons) — she can’t stop talking about my hair. So, if you can deal with the weird space, bad décor, and Mike’s unique approach, I think you’ll find La Jolla Barber Shop is a great deal, by any measure. My haircut took about 30 minutes from start to finish. Ultimately, I’m really impressed with the quality, attention to detail and overall value. When I’m in La Jolla again, I’m definitely coming back. «Cash Only».

Just awful. The guy that cut my hair didn’t seem like he had any mastery in using clippers OR scissors. The shop was very quiet and I should have picked up on that. Every other«good» barber shop was booked so I gave him a try, save your $ 16. Now I gotta wait for my damn hair to grow back :-(
