Dr. Perry is the nicest and most straight forward Doctor. However — the wait is unbearable!
Was scheduled for a field vision before surgery — was so paranoid I was a few minutes late and called them to make sure it’s OK. Not only I had to wait almost an hour, but no one gave me any status of how long I still have to wait. I had to leave because I couldn’t wait any longer. Think I got a call back? Think again…

I am a fan of Dr. Perry. Very smart and competent Dr. with a lot of bedside manner. I like the way he took time to explain what a procedure or problem was or could be and used photos to help me understand. The one thing I didn’t care for was the hour and 20 min. wait to be seen. There is nothing I hate more than to have a scheduled appointment time, and then to be kept waiting. My time is just as valuable peeps. They have a wait room within the office and another when you arrive. That tells you something. They are pros at having patients wait apparently. Nice office, a large variety of frames to choose from shall you need glasses.
The Scripps campus charges $ 4 to park and all the Dr. are allowed to validate for is $ 1 towards the $ 4 for the first three hours.
So bring cash.

Wonderful optometrist, average front end staff, poor technician.
Pros:
–Dr Videnne Sath is the optometrist I saw and she is amazing! She answers all of your questions in as much detail as you need, spends plenty of time with you and is extremely thorough and knowledgeable. She explained things to me that I’ve been wondering about for years and gave me candid, honest advice. I cannot say enough good things about her.
–Front end staff is mostly professional and knowledgeable, but just average.
–Appointments are easy to make and there are plenty available, as soon as next week for non-​urgent matters.
–Specialized, new technology and products.
–Parking is validated to give you $ 1 off.
Cons:
–You have to pay for parking and it can be annoying to find the building and wander through the hospital parking lot maze until you do.
–There is a lot of waiting. They tend to be overbooked and a yearly exam can take hours, half of which is waiting. They do apologize every so often for the wait, though.
–The appointment was with one of the Opthamalogists, but I was seen by an OD. She didn’t introduce herself and I didn’t know she was an OD until after the fact. It worked out well since she is amazing, but it would have been nice to be told.
–The technician running one of my tests was terribly inexperienced and not knowledgeable. She had to reset the machine several times, did not explain the test well and when I pointed out to her something was wrong (luckily, I’ve had it several times before so knew what to expect), she tried to convince me that that’s «how the test is» and refused to listen otherwise. I insisted and she eventually reset the machine again and let me do the test again, but had I not known something was wrong or insisted she redo it, my results would have been completely wrong. That is a scary thing considering its an important vision test. She was friendly and sweet and did let me redo the test, but that does not make up for the fact that she did not know what she was doing and refused to believe it at first; even if she had gone for help, I would have been okay with that.
I’m having trouble rating the experience, since I had a ⁵⁄₅ star doctor and a ¹⁄₅ star technician… overall, the doctor wins since she’s taking ultimate care and responsibility for my vision and the technician did listen to my concerns and did address them in the end.

Let me start by saying I think Dr. Perry is an excellent Doctor and I cannot say enough good things about him, but the office needs an overhaul. Waiting 30 minutes to see a doctor would mean that they are running early. I have waited up to 2 hours to see the doctor without even a word of explanation or apology. They do not ask if you can wait or even if you would like a drink of water. Yesterday I took a friend (she is in her 80’s and not in the best of health) who had a 2:30 appointment, the doctor saw her at 4. I asked if I could get a cup of water for her and was told that they do not have water for the patients, but reluctantly got a small cup of tap water from an exam room.
I would definitely recommend Dr. Perry for surgery, but if you just need an eye exam go somewhere else.

I should have read the reviews before coming to La Jolla Laser Vision, because my experience at this office has been nothing short of horrifying!
Everyone in the office is rude, including the doctor, but especially the office staff.
They charged me twice what I was told by the doctor at my initial visit. So far it cost me almost $ 500.00 and I still have yet to get a solution to the problem I came in for. Nothing about coming to La Jolla Laser Vision has been pleasant.
I went to a new doctor who was kind, courteous and charged half the price. But the best part is he actually HELPED me.

I couldn’t agree more with the previous reviewer. This place wouldn’t be that bad if it wasn’t for the front desk. You can always count on Taylor to give you a heaping helping of attitude and eye rolling. She takes her limited role there one step further by pretending to actually be the Ophthalmologist and questioning everything you say. I didn’t realize they were handing out medical degrees at the mall. As for the doctors there, they are very knowledgeable and helpful from what I’ve experienced so far.

I’m relatively new to San Diego (about 2 years) and so when it came to vision correction, I wasn’t sure who to go to. I SHOULD have gone to Unilocal, but instead, I just went to the online yellow pages and looked for someone close to my work.
This place is a nightmare! Both times I have come here they made me wait in the waiting room well over 30 minutes past my appointment time.
The glasses I were prescribed by the physician didn’t really seem to help my eyesight. So after 3 months of trying to «make it work» I made a second appointment to get the issue resolved.
When I called to ask about and describe my situation, the receptionist, Taylor, was very curt with me, and put me on hold almost immediately without warning. I was very surprised! She said they do not cover this situation and I would have to pay out of pocket for another appointment. I asked her if she was sure, because that did not sound reasonable to me so she put me on hold again without warning and quickly came back on and said «its office policy, do you want an appointment still?»
Against my better judgement I said sure, and came in the following Monday.
When I came in I checked in at the front desk and waited for my appointment. After a very long wait well after my appointed time, the Dr. finally came to see me. He seemed upset with me that I would come back after such a short time and had an air of doubtfullness that I would need a different prescription. I’m not sure how to say this, but if the glasses don’t do the job I need them to do, than I think that means they are not working properly. I’m not trained in this field, but that seems like a reasonable assumption to me.
Throughout the appointment the Dr. kept reassuring me that my vision was almost perfect. No changes needed, and he sticks with his original assessment.
Fine, so as I’m walking out, a desk girl is on the phone and I wait for her to get off the phone so I can book another appointment for next year, etc, and 5 minutes later after listening to her chat on the phone she says «why did you get a refraction? It doesn’t make sense?»
I was like «i’m on my lunch break, so can you just bill me (in other words, I don’t have time for you to figure this out, just send me the bill.») and she says, in a hostile tone, «All payments are due NOW.»
Excuse me miss, but unlike your other patients, I am not one to take to abuse, so you can bill me as I initially requested.
I walked out and didn’t look back.
I wish there were a way to give them zero stars, but 1 is the lowest rating here. Also I wish there were a way to get my time back too. What a waste of energy that place has been for me! booooo!!! Thumbs way way down.
