History
Established in 1998.
The first Rock Bottom Brewery was established in Denver, Colorado by Frank Day in 1991. The concept is actually based on the Walnut Brewery in Boulder, Colorado — also part of the Rock Bottom family. The name comes from the first location being on the ground floor of the Prudential building, whose symbol is the Rock of Gibraltar. Rock Bottom La Jolla was established in the Summer of 1998 after remodeling the former Elephant Bar location. La Jolla is one of four Rock Bottom locations in California, of 35 Rock Bottom Breweries across the United States. Rock Bottom La Jolla has a very similar menu to other Rock Bottoms, but we also offer some additional unique choices by Chef Alberto Lucatero that are only available in La Jolla. Unlike many other brewery-restaurants, all Rock Bottom beers are brewed, fermented and served on location; ours by Brewer Marty Mendiola — The freshest beer in San Diego!
