The Lodge at Torrey Pines

I recently stayed here with out of town guests and have to say, my experience has been horrendous. The check-​in process was seemingly fine, the valet and bellmen were wonderful. Let’s start with the rooms. The rooms were disappointing to say the least. The hotel’s restaurant A.R. Valentien served food that was mediocre. The food wasn’t bad, but you never want to walk out of a restaurant that has a good reputation with the thought that it was just okay. My poor experience here is mainly due to the fact that a hotel of this caliber did not provide the level of service and competency you would expect. First they did not disclose the incidentals charges with me during check in. A room incidentals charge for $ 150/​a night is understandable. However, how can a hotel charge over $ 1000+ in false charges/​mistakes? What if I had not carefully reviewed my invoices? This hotel has lost my trust for good. During check out, one of the front desk employees offered to email the itemized list of charges (the invoices for the rooms) so I trusted she would. The next day, still no invoice. It wasn’t until I called back again to have it emailed to me that I received them and upon inspection saw unknown/​false charges. I have had to make 4 phone calls in one day trying to figure out what the heck happened there with the hotel’s front desk/​accounting/​billing! I am telling you, it’s not worth it to stay here. What a headache. Make sure to check your bill upon check out because GUESS WHAT, they charged me for items that I did not consume (like the minibar), charged me twice for valet (there was only supposed to be one charge) and charged me twice for one room. It doesn’t end there, they continued to make fraudulent charges even after I called to correct their mistakes. I would never stay here again even if it was free.
John at the Golf shop was helpful and informative in making golfing reservations and Kevin and Justin are hotel staff members who were genuinely friendly and knowledgeable. Lisa Marie at the concierge was unfriendly, unhelpful and dismissive. I cannot understand how this is a AAA five diamond establishment. I am eager to see how they rectify the situation and I’ll have to post another revised review once they do. I’m hoping through this review no one else has to go through the trouble of dealing with instances like this.

Stayed here first weekend of December and it was a beautiful hotel. Just wish I had time to spend here. The weekend was jam packed with events with extended family so we basically stayed at the place to rest and sleep. The place is pretty big with of course, a world class golf course. I remember there was a tournament here during my time at UCSD. Tiger Woods was there as told by my roommate, who was volunteering at the event. The place is well kept but I wish there was water or something at the lobby while we checked in or waited around. I do remember someone driving a very expensive ferrari and picking up a friend. That driver was an Asian female. Someone’s got daddy to pay for that ride. :)

My family and I absolutely enjoyed our stay at this lodge for New Years 2016. You can’t beat the location of this place, right next to a nature reserve, sweeping views of the ocean and the world famous Torrey Pines golf course.
Service was near perfect — the staff members were very accommodating when we requested for a late checkout and even supplied us with more Fiji water bottles as well as the LA Times in the morning. They even gifted us with lavender mist in the evening to spray in our bedroom so that we could get a good night’s rest.
The rooms are very spacious and offer great views from the balcony. There is a communal library with a billiards table and a wealth of books/​board games for your entertainment. The heated swimming pool is beautiful, however, it is on the smaller side and offer no privacy as patio diners face the pool and can directly watch you swim (which I think could turn some people like my mom away, but I personally had no problem with it).
My one complaint is that they took down all the Christmas trees and decorations when we checked in on January 1^st. Wish they were there for the guests to enjoy a bit longer!

Wonderful evening, the carols singers were great and sang beautifully.

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful lodge & Golf course. It’s a great resort, comfortable and on the Pacific Ocean. You can’t go wrong with Torrey Pines and it’s reasonably priced for the quality and location. Of Course, price also depends on time of year and what’s going on. But it’s still a quality place to stay. We had a great time and loved our room. Staff was excellent, Customer Service is #1.

Many of these sideThe Lodge at Torrey Pines, the Renaissance and the location is not the best, so the weekend price $ 10 cheaper than the Marriott. Comfort is still possible, though approaching a runway end, but basically can not hear the sound of the plane landed. The hotel’s executive lounge food is not good, but at least you can feed their families. But the weekend is nothing of. Go out to eat is not easy, and only a fast food restaurant opposite the hotel, the other at least two blocks to go out at night to go out still feel a little desolate feeling.

Just experienced a wonderful massage by Amanda. Booked a 50 minute massage (there is an 80 min option too.)
The spa is very clean and the staff is extremely polite. They were all so welcoming when I walked in and the lady showed me around, since I’ve never been there.
Amanda asked me what areas she should focus on, and she did exactly what I requested. She was very good and would definitely book an appointment again.

It was the best weekend of our lives and also the weekend where L proposed to J.
L called to make to a hotel reservation and informed the staff member on what he was planning to do that weekend and also informed that he was willing to pay whatever amount for a room with the «wow» factor. When L asked for help, L was met with a great attitude and instead of recommending the most expensive room available, he recommended the Palisade Room due to the better Golf Views, includes a balcony, and had more bang for your buck.
First Impression/​Ambiance
We arrived and was greeted by gentleman in a kilt who opened the cab door for us, welcomed us, and showed us inside to the lovely reception area. As soon as we stepped in, the wow factor had already kicked in. The Craftsman décor along with the Torrey Pine trees, Golf Course, Pool area, and ocean view just added to the charm and we were very impressed. The Lodge had a old rustic but luxurious majestic atmosphere and we felt that there will be no needs of ours that were to be unmet.
The Room
The gentleman L spoke to on the phone set us up in the Palisade Room with dead center views of the 18^th Hole and the ocean in the back drop. Simply breathtaking! The room was very cozy that included a fireplace, large bathroom, King Size bed, and a beautiful balcony. The bathroom wallpaper could of been updated but we loved the room overall and would highly recommend the Palisade Room. You will not be disappointed.
The Spa
We arrived at the Lodge earlier than our check in time so L booked a couples massage and nail treatment for J.
J said that the woman who did her nails was very nice and that received the best treatment. The spa is extremely well maintained that provides luxurious robes, organic products available, and we enjoyed the Co-​Ed Spa relaxation room.
Car Service
The Lodge offered complimentary car service. We utilized the car service for our dinner reservation and to the nearby beach in Del Mar. It was a nice touch and we were driven in a Top of the Line Audi Q7. We do recommend calling ahead and booking in advance because it can get very busy! Also, have the driver take you to the nearby beach for either a stroll on the beach or to hike the trails. Don’t worry about bringing anything because the driver would offer you towels and water. If Tony is available, we highly recommend him to be your driver!
Overall, service was outstanding, front desk staff and concierge were incredibly friendly and helpful. Prior and upon arrive, all the staff members that L spoke to made him feel incredibly welcomed and the staff went out of their way to provide everything he needed. World Class service!

My wife and I are not golfers, but we love coming to this place. Everyone is VERY nice, it’s not pompous like some of these high end places are. The on site restaurant is WORLD class, I kid you not, it’s some of the best food we’ve had. It’s probably our favorite restaurant ever. It would have to be up there… top 3 at least… anyways
They have a beautiful hot tub that’s perfect for a glass of wine and the sunset. The style of this resort is what really makes it stand out. It has a woodland feel, it reminds me of the Ahwahnee hotel in Yosemite. The main areas are just gorgeous, deep brown carved wood, fireplaces by the front bar, it’s a lovely place to be.
Drawbacks are it’s crowded during busy season.

We’ve stayed 2 nights now and will leave tomorrow. Very nice clean quiet hotel. Great staff. Beautiful golf course although our room got views of the drought tolerant garden.
I love the fact that we can self park for free. Our room is on the 3^rd floor and there’s parking spaces right outside. Very convenient.
Swimming pool has a lot of shade in late afternoon.
The only problem I can see is its been awfully noisy with the military aircraft flying overhead. I love seeing And hearing them the few times they fly around my home but if ur on vacation or a business trip the constant loud rumble can be problematic. The jets are super loud! Again I don’t mind but be aware.
I forget the name of the last hotel we stayed at while vacationing in San Diego but that was much nicer. About same price but the gardens were amazing! They only valet though so we felt like prisoners. At the lodge I can go to the car as I please.
Their restaurant is also great.

I decided the wife and I needed a little over indulgence while on a family vacation. With our son visiting the Zoo with my niece and brother-​in-​law for the day I booked us some treatments at «the Spa at Torrey pines». We arrived at The Lodge at Torrey Pines about an hour before our treatments and were greeted to an absolutely stunning hotel built in the Craftsman style. We hit the spa immediately and after checking in I slipped into my robe at my locker and went in to check things out. Steam room, sauna and aromatherapy rooms along with showers all set into a gorgeous Roman inspired theme. Complete amenities were provided nothing was left out. After a bit I met my wife in the co-​ed relaxation lounge where the staff plied us with granola and cucumber water as we sat beside the fireplace. We both got the same treatments just at different times so I was up first for my massage as my wife got her pedicure. I cannot for the life of me remember my massage therapist name, but she was amazing. She asked for anything that needed special attention and I did then we began. She had amazingly strong hands for someone so young and lovely as her. Usually I have to find an older Bulgarian woman to knead out my kinks, but my therapist had the stuff and the skills on how to do it. After my amazing massage my wife and I met again in the relaxation room where we were once again plied with water and treats. Next up pedicure, now I never do this but it was a package deal and I knew the wife would like it, so I sat there for the hour and took one for the team. I must admit after my hour was up even my gnarly feet looked good. The pedicure lady was cool and gentle and was very professional. Afterward we headed down to the pool for the rest of the afternoon. We lounged poolside in a cabana where we ordered lunch and relaxed amongst the wealthy upperclass society types. This hotel is a five diamond resort and it is not cheap, had we not been a part of the spa we never could have afforded to enjoy the hotel and all its amenities like we did. If given the chance again we will definitely be back

The property was meticulously decorated and maintained. Beautiful setting for a gorgeous sunset. God’s handiwork on display! The staff was professional, but not stuffy. They even catered to our little ones with mini robes and kid friendly menus.

My husband and I stayed here yearly between 2001 and 2008 for the Buick Invitational. It is one of our favorite hotels in the continental United States.
The rooms are beautifully appointed and well maintained.
I have never slept more soundly than at Torrey Pines. It was rare that I could hear a guest in an adjoining room; the rooms are well insulated.
The room service and on site dining is fabulous. Well worth the price.
The South course is a challenging favorite with spectacular views.
The staff is to be commended for their graciousness and professionalism. They were incredibly helpful in every way.
We look forward to returning to this wonderful property in the future.

Everyone so nice and helpful… valet, gift shop, bar, restaurant… the place was so perfect!!! Amazing surroundings bedding is beautiful, the bathroom elegant… the turn evening turn down and morning breakfast!

The Loge at Torrey Pines was perfect! Very great staff, luxury rooms, and very close to the golf course (we were there for the PGA Tournament). We ate at the restaurant, which was also amazing! (The burger was to die for!) The hotel had a very lodge-​y feel which made you feel at home and very welcomed. Would absolutely recommend coming here!

Stopped in for dessert and coffee after dinner. There were a stunning total of 2, count em, dessert options. Ok, fine, we ordered 1 of each. Then they’re out of one, so ok, sure we’ll just split a chocolate mousse cake.
The cake SUCKED. Too sweet, weak flavor, so-​so chocolate ice cream on the side but there was no thought to the pairing. Best part was cute meringue hearts stuck to the cake. But the bill for a coffee, a latte, and a shitty piece of cake: $ 26. Wtf, lodge?
Grounds are gorgeous. Décor (prairie school) is very cool. And they will rip you off with crappy desserts and mediocre coffee.

Came here for a conference and had a chance to quickly peruse the grounds. The hotel is beautiful and the staff all very professional. When I asked for help I was met with great attitudes. (I want to know who is doing the dry cleaning because their uniforms are impeccably pressed, also wonder if they hostess makes a lot more than I do in academia…)
If you want to shell out the $$$$, looks like a phenomenal place to stay.

This place is gorgeous if you consider it for your wedding! Charming rooms, luxury suites, scenic views to golf course and to the ocean speak for itself.

Alison, the Catering Manager, organized everything so well, and her staff did an excellent job! If you love luxury and like to be treated with an exceptional service, I would highly recommend this hotel and gladly say that the Lodge at Torrey Pines is officially approved by Red Trolley Studio!

Fabulous ambiance and cheese plate. Bar seating could be a good place to watch games. Cheese plate was loaded with assorted nuts, grapes, four types of cheese, date cake, honey, and a giant plate of toasted, crusty bread. YUM. Cocktails are a little pricey but what do you expect from La Jolla?
Secret: on weekday nights, drive past the valet and into the parking structure and through the parking gate for free, easy, accessible, and safe parking.
