Sherman, Dr. Steven Horne, and Dr. Kelly Terranova in cooperation our specialists, Dr. Sherman’s son, Dr. Michael Sherman, Endodontist, Dr. Anthony Opilka, Periodontist, Dr. Mark Breese, Oral Surgeon, provide a full range of dental services in one convenient location. Dr. Richard S.

Business Owner

Dr. Sherman knew, at the age of four, that he wanted to be a dentist. He grew up watching his father, Dr. Harvey Sherman, treating his patients and developed a passion for the profession at a very young age. Dr. Sherman was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. He attended The Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio and received his B.A. in History/​Sociology. He remains an ardent OSU Buckeye fan today. He moved to Cleveland where he attended Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) Following dental school he completed a General Practice Residency at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

Once his formal training was complete, he joined his father in private practice, and they practiced together for many years. Dr. Richard Sherman also kept his affiliation with Miami Valley Hospital, and he ran the TMJ clinic at Miami Valley Hospital for more than 10 years.

I initially chose Torrey Pines Dental due to convenience (I work in the same building) but over time, one thing has become resoundingly clear: Nancy is unequivocally THE BEST hygienist you’ll EVER have. She’s so kind, incredibly gentle, and exceptionally thorough. She’s meticulous and critical in the best way possible and never makes you feel embarrassed about the state of your teeth. My teeth feel all but brand new when I leave her chair.
Dr. Horne is also wonderful with his exams. He walks you through everything, explaining as he goes, and is always willing to answer your questions. Torrey Pines Dental is where it’s at, they have the dental experience down to an Art for sure.

Without qualification, this is the best dentist office I have ever been to. Dr. Horne is genial, pleasant, and professional. The same goes for the staff. The office handles the insurance paperwork efficiently and their work is always professional. A real pleasure.

Had my first appointment today. from the moment I walked in I was greeted by the front desk, Richard who walked me thru the registration process. Very ease ! Then I waited about 10 minutes before I was called in… started my xrays and then had my cleaning.
Niccila was my hygienist … she was gentle and thorough at the same time. One of the best experiences I have ever had a Dentist office. Look forward to meeting Dr. Sherman soon and continuing a long relationship with this practice!

Incredible experience. I came here due to an emergency with my retainer. They fixed it up and gave me a 50% discount because they said it was just a case of cleaning it, adding new adhesive and sealing it in. I was in and out in a flash.

I am a new patient and want to express my absolute good fortune in discovering this
dental practice. Have lived in many places, had to experience new dentists and
always was less than thrilled. Since my first visit, I have been impressed with the overall office atmosphere, it’s organization, and the competent and welcoming staff!
Dr. Sherman is a genuinely warm person with so much experience behind that great smile.
I have had a huge amount of work in the past so I could really appreciate his evaluation
of my problem. He gave money saving options and was honest. Other dentists have
always over recommended so I was impressed. The new periodontist is excellent and all
the assistants are pleasant and very capable. My periodontal cleaning technician has given
one of the best treatments ever.
I like going to this type of office located in a medical complex, it feels more professional and
definitely worth the small parking fee (paid in part by the dentist). As I mentioned above, I’ve
had many dentists and Torrey Pines Dental Arts is by far the best experience of them all!

Well I received a bill from the dentist office this would be bill number one and they are claiming it’s 60 days past due… nevermind fraudulently charging my dental insurance to recoup fees which my dental insurance did pay… but honestly how is a bill that you are just sending my now 60 days past due… called the office because a corrective claim was not submitted as of yet… when I called the office before asking my name said it was in the process I asked how they got a automated bill done so quickly and couldn’t complete a electronic claim within a week he said his office manager was not in and asked for my last name… I hung up… HOW ARE YOU GOING TO TELL ME THEY ARE WORKING ON SOMETHING IF YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW MY NAME… Some talented office staff right there…

Dr. Breese is amazing and he cares! I recently had to take my wisdom teeth out and one of my roommates recommended that I went to Torrey Pines Dental Arts. It was easy/​quick to schedule an appointment. Before/​After I took my wisdom teeth out, Dr. Breese made sure I was aware of everything he was doing and made the experience bearable. He even checked up on me by giving me a phone call later on that day. Thanks Dr. Breese!

I’ve been coming to Torrey Pines Dental Arts for over 2 years, but I don’t see myself returning.
I came in around the end of August to get a cleaning and Dr. Horne noticed that I had a cavity on a back tooth. I decided to do a follow-​up appointment to get a filling done. Fillings come in either gray or white. Since the fillings I currently have are white, I went with the white. After my treatment, my estimated out-​of-​pocket after insurance was $ 50. I paid it without thinking back on it.
Now November comes around and I get a blank bill in the mail for another $ 62 with no description of treatments or anything. I end up calling the office to figure out what’s going on since I haven’t been there in almost 3 months. They tell me that my insurance changed the procedure code on them and claim that they only cover gray fillings. So, I got billed for the rest.
I got an estimated cost for a planned treatment and almost 3 months later they tell me «oh wait, it’s actually this much and you still owe.» They should have known what the insurance would cover and how much my out-​of-​pocket should have been. By the way, did I mention the bill was blank too?

Dr. Horne seriously is the best. He fixed my chipped front tooth and it looks like I never even had a chip. I had a chipped tooth before and got it patched up by another dentist back home and I could feel the difference of texture with my real tooth and the filling. But not with dr. Horne!!! He told me he wants to make sure that the filling feels as smooth as glass, and it sure does. My smile is back! :)

I had my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Breese and the experience was absolutely stellar. The doctors are patient and explain everything in detail. The staff is really pleasant and helpful, all the administrative tasks were dealt really fast. I had heard that tooth extraction can leave you writhing in pain for days but I’m one day in and the pain is minimal and totally manageable. Definitely recommend this place if you need dental care in la jolla.

I looked up this place from Unilocal-​which I never have done before. Looking for a place for my 90 year old mother. Wow — they even took her blood pressure before cleaning her teeth. She gets very anxious at the dentist — but she loved this place. After 20 years with the same dentist — I switch to TPDA and realize my dentist was not into the latest and best technology.

Amazing. Called to make an appointment because I had the most excruciating pain. The receptionist was very accommodating and scheduled me for an appointment the next day. I went into the appointment with Dr. Horne and he immediately identified the problem and explained my options and fixed it within the hour. Dr. Horne and the entire staff are absolutely amazing. I will definitely be returning for any future work.

This place is fantastic. Convenient to UCSD’s campus and takes GSHIP insurance. I’ve been going here for 5 years. It was recommended by graduate students my first year and more kept starting every year. I know a lot of grad students who come here. I’d keep coming here if I wasn’t leaving town.
My dental health continued to improve every visit. The hygienists provide a lot of extra detail about oral health that actually makes you feel like you control the process. They work with you on the common goal of good and healthy teeth instead of making you feel like you have a problem and they are fixing you. I really appreciated that.
In my first year or so, they seemed pushy to get you to buy more things, but I just politely declined. It wasn’t a big deal. The only thing I did end up buying was an electric toothbrush, which is great and much better for my dental health, but it was more expensive than buying it on amazon.
Best dentist experience. I highly recommend it.

I used to go to another place in Sorrento Valley and heard about this place from a colleague. I got my wisdom teeth out by the surgeon at this place and it was awesome. The whole process was smooth and except for the numbing shots I didn’t feel any pain. The surgeon was very nice and gave me his personal cell phone number to call him if I needed him after hours, Dr. Sherman is the nicest doctor ever! I have switched to them and would recommend them to anyone!
The only thing is, their treatments are a little expensive compare to other dentists but if you are willing to pay 10−15% more to get the best its totally worth it!
I just got my teeth cleaned today and was very satisfied!

This is a beautiful office! Everything is extremely clean and high tech (example — you check in on a touch screen monitor). The dentists, dental assistants, and receptionists are all extremely kind and make the visit actually pleasant (rare for a dental trip!). The waiting area is nice too — free keurig machine, and I never have to wait very long to be seen.
