This is my favorite place to go for Italian food and wine. It’s the kind of place you want to linger with good friends and enjoy the experience. The owner is very friendly and makes you feel like family. The chef has been there forever and you can tell. Great food, the Bruschetta appetizer is the best I’ve had anywhere. They offer a complimentary glass of wine while you wait for a table. Always a good time.

Cute little place with a nice ambiance. Plenty of street parking at least during the week after 7. Daniel is the best bartender I have ever met in my life. I was the blonde in the red dress who came the day of the Match event on 6⁄9. I was the one who asked about the Long Island iced tea.

Very nice place. Amazingly delicious dinner and great service. The owner is very friendly. We got free wine, appetizer and they fed our 2 dogs, I never seen this happening in any restaurants. Beautiful atmosphere and live piano music, uhhhhh.

Jeannie is hardworking and wonderful. The wine selection is per diem but as tasted high quality. Clean environment. Delicious old Fashioned swing music. Reminding of sun valley resort, Idaho.

Very welcoming! Fabulous food! Great service! The vodka sauce was one of the best I’ve had and my daughter loved the spaghetti with meat sauce!

Hands down best service and Italian food in town. Danny the owner stops at nothing to provide great customer service. His passion for wine and food is bar none. Thank you for a wonderful night.

We were visiting and on vacation. Great food, very authentic! When arriving we were offered each a glass of wine. We were with our dog, her name is «Precious and she is a pit bull». The owner offered to set up a table and heat lamp on the patio(he was very accommodating)! The waiter was very attentive as well! As mentioned previously, the food was wonderful(down to the meatballs that the dog received)! Thank you, it was a perfect dining experience! Hope to be in La Jolla to vacation again this summer. We will MOSTDEFINITELYVISITAGAIN!

First dates don’t always start off well, this one was a little bumpy as I was super late… it ended up turning out awesome! 4 months ago I met my man there for our first date. Having had a full day of shopping and girl stuff planned with my sister I calculated time terribly. Luckily the staff and owner kept my date happy with wine and great conversations. When I showed up I was greeted by all the staff members and given a glass of wine it was tasty. The food was excellent, we asked our waiter to order for us. We had the calamari, a salmon dish and something else that we shared. Wish I knew what we ordered but we didn’t really stop talking to even pay attention to the menu. Recently we went again and had dinner and wine of course. They remembered us from our first visit and took great care of us again. If you plan on going make sure you call ahead as closing hours vary.

Place is nice, same with staff. Food was pretty good, but nothing great. Owner is a talker and not a walker. He was very unprofessional and defensive when things didn’t go his way. I won’t go back knowing I would be supporting him. I think he needs to be reminded he is in the customer service business.

Where do I start. This place was trying so hard to over accommodate that I knew right away something was going to go wrong. Our pasta dishes were incredibly over salted, my wife’s pasta was undercooked, and the ingredients did not stand up to what they charge per dish. The only win for this place was the complimentary glass of wine and the friendly service. We didn’t have the heart to say how poor everything was so we took our food to go and gave it to the homeless man down the street.

My boyfriend and I love great Italian food and this is our new favorite spot! I’ve driven past it a few times because I live right down the street and have always wanted to stop in. So we finally decided to and I am sooo glad we did! They have the cutest patio seating out front with a little fire. It’s very romantic. The owner is absolutely amazing! He welcomed us with open arms and even gave us free wine and bruschetta to share. Talk about hospitable, you don’t see that very often, if ever, especially in the bird rock/la Jolla area. He was thrilled to share his favorite recommendations on the menu. Our server was great as well he really knew the menu and answered every question I had. I ended up ordering the gnocchi with pink sauce which was out of this world!!! The sauce was excellent and the perfect amount to compliment the dumplings. My boyfriend ordered the lasagna. He absolutely loved it! He’s tried lasagna everywhere and this is the only place that does it right!!! Great portions and great price! Bravo!

HORRIBLEEXPERIENCE! I would give zero stars if I could. We called before arriving and confirmed the restaurants gluten free options. The same man who we spoke to on the phone greeted us and continued the conversation about gluten free and took our order(we believe he was the owner). When our food arrived we asked the waiter if the dish was gluten free, he confirmed that it was. At the end of the meal we asked the waiter for the ingredients of the gluten free pasta and he showed us a label from regular pasta. When I brought this to the attention of the owner he was extremely rude, dismissive and accusatory– he blamed us for the mistake. I was shocked that they didn’t take a food allergy seriously and that they would treat a customer this way. We understand that mistakes are made but are outraged about the way it was handled and cannot believe that the owner would yell at a patron and be so dismissive about a severe food allergy! Additionally, the food was subpar(think bagged croutons and brown lettuce) and did not come out as ordered. I asked the owner what was in the bolognese sauce to which he replied that true bolognese sauce only ever is made with meat and no vegetables but then was served a sauce with chunky tomatoes and carrots. Food allergy or not this restaurant is a huge miss!

This place is incredibly charming! Great date spot! Very romantic ambiance! And if I only speak to my dish, great food! My dish was phenomenal! 5-stars all the way and then I tried my friend’s and it was horrible(okay, maybe that’s a bit harsh and unfair as I despise anything smoked, but still she was not a fan). I got the cooked salmon — cooked to perfection and seasoned well, while she got the smoked salmon salad… all smoked salmon, very little lettuce. I suggest they cut costs and increase palatability by using less smoked salmon and more lettuce. Win Win for everyone! :) Their portions are generous and we ended up splitting mine. I would’ve been a bit bummed about paying for the salmon salad(that no one ate) but a nice gentleman at the bar picked up our tab, so no complaints there! Aside from the salmon salad being disappointing, wine was really good and service was top-notch! The owner was there. He was very friendly and hospitable. The ambiance is very romantic! Sometimes they have a pianist playing while dinner is served and on week nights you are likely to have this gem to yourself. The first time I walked in, I felt as if I single-handedly discovered Bird Rock’s best kept secret. This place is definitely worth checking out and I’ll definitely be returning!

My husband brought me here to celebrate my birthday dinner last night. It was a lovely evening and we sat out in the patio. The owner, Dan, offered us two complimentary glasses of champagne and immediately made us feel welcome. We had the freshest most tender calamari fritti. My husband who is very critical about food said that it was the best lasagna he ever eaten. The calamari and lasagna are definitely a must try! I had the rissotto pescatora cooked to the sauce I requested(spicy non-creamy tomato sauce) and it turned out super delicious. We also ordered a bottle of very smooth Malbec and tiramisu which is frozen inside. It could use more coffee and alcohol. It may be just me who loves my tiramisu strong! The only thing, even though I shouldn’t expect it, was they did not offer a birthday dessert like most restaurant. It would have made me feel loved and I can spread that love around… LOL All in all, it is a great Italian restaurant so not sure why the negative reviews. We had an amazing evening and dinner. Will go back maybe not for birthday but other occasion.

Cute little Italian place… a bit hard to find even using the GPS. Our GPS kept getting confused. Good Italian food… solid but not outstanding. Friendly staff. We came in and the owner or the chef told us that they were short handed and we would have a wait. He told us «order a drink… on the house». We both ordered cokes… and we were charged for them. My hubs told me «Well…you DID have something like four refills». True, very true… what can I say except that I’m a diet coke addict. I ordered the spinach ravioli but was told that they didn’t have that but they had lobster… ok…even better. My hubs ordered lasagna but was told they were«out». He ended up ordering a pizza that we split and we split my ravioli. Both dishes were good, my ravioli was a little on the cold side when it was brought to the table, but the pizza was really good. I probably should have sent the ravioli back to be reheated. We sat on the patio so we could have our doggie with us. All in all… a nice night out. They seemed to be very short handed in the kitchen that night, but why were they«out» of both spinach ravioli AND lasagna? Isn’t lasagna sort of a staple in any Italian restaurant?
