amazing bookstore.
apparently the oldest book store in North America!
i went to a book signing here and what a treat it was.
it was right across the street from one of my fave restaurants, Catania, so i made a night out of it.
not only are there books, but supplies, presents, etc.
really nice to have a personal book store here, not a big corporate one with a starbucks in it.

The RSVP young lady that answer the phone for the Author Michelle Gable Event was extremely rude and fake. I called to get information and RSVP for myself and two other friends. She seemed in a hurry, not willing to explain to me the event and her remark about buying a book just like I would buy a ticket for a movie theater was rude. My friends and I were very excited to buy the book and meet the author. We changed our minds and decided not to visit this place or buy any books from them ever again.

My friends and I stumbled upon Warwick’s when we were lounging around Girard while sipping our juices from Fruittitude. One of my friends told me that famous authors stop by Warwick’s once in a while to give signings, and so I knew that this place had credibility.
Though small, Warwicks has everything you need from a standard bookstore and then some. On the left side, the place seems to have random accessories and gadgets whereas the right side has all the books. Though the selection seems small, Warwick’s has all the latest novels.
The staff seemed extremely friendly too. Not once did I feel like I didn’t belong in the store. The only thing that I was displeased about was how expensive each book was. This isn’t the stores fault, but it made me realize how much money my parents spent on my books when I was younger.
All in all, I liked stopping by Warwick’s on Girard. It definitely brings back old memories of reading good classics. It is much different from your average Barnes and Nobles. The staff is extremely kind and the atmosphere is very peaceful.

I love love love this bookstore and gift shop. It is independent, it has unbelievable selection for kids and adults and great layout so easy to browse through. Thoughtful categories, nice gifts. Tons of recommendations by the staff and you also could talk to them about the books they marked as their favorites. Bunch of signed copies by authors if you are into that. Every time I am visiting La Jolla I make a point to stop by and never leave empty handed. «My affair «with the bookstore is over 15 years old.

The main door was locked as I tried to enter… so the woman that works there said from inside «use the other door.» I went to the other door, opened it and walked in. Just then another that works there says, «sorry closed.» I explained to her the other woman just pointed for me to come in…“Well I’m the manager and I’m telling you we are closed.”…and she said it in the rudest way possible!
That’s the first time I was told the store was closed WHILE i was in the store… she was like «get out of the store» though not in those words… to be fair it was 5:58pm and they close at 6pm… But guess where I wont be a customer of?
First impressions don’t seem to matter to some companies… I guess they don’t want business from people who want to spend money… ya know… too much hassle to wait that extra couple minutes… then they have to count that cash I would have given them… then they would have to record another successful transaction… and nobody wants that!
Oh, and locking the main door early? Brilliant way to keep customers out. I won’t be back.

UPDATE: The «helpful» guy at the pen counter wasn’t so helpful after all; when he tried to unscrew the nib portion to switch pen bodies, he ruined the nib. I contacted Faber Castel to get it fixed, and they contacted Warwick’s to ask why they should service a pen that was broken before it left the store. So Warwick’s is going to replace the pen, and we get to drive down to La Jolla a third time just for this one purchase.
It’s kind of a shame, because they really are a great independent bookstore, for books. After the experience with the pens, though, I just don’t feel like going back there, personally.

An amazing independent bookstore with great staff recommendations! I love their author events, too. I’ve had the opportunity to meet Hilary Clinton and David Sedaris, and attend the book launch for several local authors — including my mom’s! — because of Warwick’s!

Drove to Warwick’s primarily for the stationary section. The only store in the San Diego area I have found that carries Filofax and Filofax products. The selection is small but well-rounded.I was able to spend my money here rather than Amazon. Good prices too.
The book section is on the right. Very nice selection of classics. Next to no fantasy fiction books.
The left section is fronted by jewelry and doodads. There is a leather goods and pen section in the back middle. The stationary/​office supplies are behind the jewelry. Nice selection of things I have had trouble finding locally. The art supplies are at the very back. Basic selection.
Parking in this section of town can be a pain, but the weather is gorgeous so who minds walking a block or two.
The staff were very nice without being in your face. They know what they are about with knowledge. Warwick’s was worth the 20 minute drive from South Bay. (Hahaha, it’s only 20 mins, right?) Prices on everything are comparable to what you would find elsewhere. The only difference is you aren’t getting that big corporate discount. These days that ain’t so big.

Best bookstore staff I have ever met! Super friendly and helpful with any questions I had about any book I happen to pick up.

A VERY cool, boutique– like, local bookstore in La Jolla.
They have regular book signings that can be quite intimate. I was lucky to be there for Tom Hom’s Book Signing for ‘Rabbit on a Bumpy Road’. I encourage you to stop by and see the list of upcoming book signings.
I perused some of the children’s books and found some great ones!

I absolutely love the selection in the book section as much as the stationary and gift corner! Especially the notebooks are adorable. I’m a sucker for stationary items and could spend all my money in there.
The reason why I’m not giving 5 stars is the staff. In the 4 – 5 times I visited the store I have never experienced a greeting when entering, never been asked by somebody if I found everything well. It’s an odd atmosphere in there with the classic, rather old fashioned music. I experienced the staff watching me almost suspicious as if I could steal something. Can it be because it’s La Jolla and I don’t dress like the rich elderly ladies like many of their customers? Being at the register it’s not much better. You get a «Hello», a weary smile and a «thank you, goodbye.» I get a much better service at every supermarket! Warwicks seems to know about their nice selection and therefore has not much interest in treating their customers in a warm and welcoming way.

Lots of books! I don’t live in La Jolla so I don’t frequent Warwick’s, but after lunch in the area I stumbled in here more for the air conditioning with my little one than anything else. I remembered I’d been wanting to get two very specific children’s books I hadn’t found elsewhere.
It wasn’t hard to find someone to help me. The lovely woman, with a smile, showed me right to the two books I wanted. Good Night San Diego and Good Night Beach were priced competitively to the other «Good Night» books I had, so we added them to our collection.
I was really impressed the isles were wide enough to accommodate my stroller and the children’s section was stocked full of really great, and not your «run of the mill» books.

One of my favorite things to do while on vacation is to visit cool local book stores. I am so glad my husband and I stumbled onto Warwick’s while walking back to our hotel after brunch one morning. And I do mean stumbled because the place we had eaten at had bottomless mimosas. It was really nice to spend some time there browsing their selection. They seemed to have more non fiction coffee table type books rather than novels (other than mainstream new releases). There was a good selection of local travel guides so that was cool. The only thing keeping them from the extra star in my book is that at least half the store is taken up with knick-​knacks and stationary and other items that I had no interest in.

One of the finest book stores in San Diego! All the staff are courteous, kind, and helpful and most have been around for years.
The modern, inviting atmosphere is divided into two sections: books & supplies.
In the books area, they have an outstanding array of non-​fiction, adult-​fiction & all the books my teens can want.
Be aware that their business book selection is thin, however.
In the supplies area, they have pens, binders, art paintbrushes/​paper/​paints and they also stock a wide range of jewelry and other local trinkets.
You can also order your Christmas/​wedding cards from their stationery department, but it is extremely expensive.
The celebrity events are outstanding — Hillary Clinton will be signing her new autobiography at Warwick’s this week.

Love the store, especially the events! I have been to see a few author events and it’s great when it’s a newer author because you get a more intimate experience. I recently went to their Coffee with a Bookseller event, which I enjoyed because they list a few current favorites (one of which was already on my book list to read) and offer a 20% discount on any book titles they name.
They have recommendations by popular books and employee favorites listed. There are also cute greeting cards to pick up as well if you stop in. Parking in this area is not too bad during the week day. If you have trouble, go down a side street and you should be fine without having to pay.
I am a fan of bookstores but the author events take it up a notch for me.

Nice, organized, and friendly staffed bookstore! My bf and I want to start reading books together (like our own mini book club lol) and we went in totally unsure about which genre of books we wanted, and we were approached by a very knowledgable employee and she suggested great books!
We ended up wanting to start with a classic and decided F. Scott Fitzgerald «Tender is the Night». And they sell a pack with 3 of Fitzgerald classics which was a plus bc we want to read all of his books!

This place has soo many neat things. Very chic and unique jewelry, notebooks, bags, you name it! A very underground place next to a very lovely flower shop. Things aren’t too expensive, but some are more than others. Careful though, my boyfriend bought me jewelry I ended up exchanging, and the lady was hesitant when I asked her the metal of a pair of rings. Meaning, their jewelry is probably bought in China and way overpriced for the quality.
I fell in love my first time coming in, if youre in the area definitely check it out!

This isn’t office depot; so if you’re looking for a box of cheap pins for the office: go elsewhere. Now, that said, they’ve got a great selection of high end and eclectic pins, stationary, bags, and more. Staff is helpful, if not a bit aloof, but generally knowledgeable. There is anything here you wouldn’t normally expect, and everything neat and unusual.

There are two things I check out when I am on personal travel: the local bookstore and the local coffee shop.
A+!! Love this place. Not only are they an independent bookstore, but also have small gifts and nice stationary.
As for the books, they have some best sellers, but also have great recommendations. I love staff picks. I left with two books and a notebook.
The shop is easy to shop, not crowded.
