Established in 1976.

We are a family owned business that began in 1976. Family Carpet and Draperies specializes in all flooring and window coverings and is not more one than the other. Meaning the knowledge of flooring is not more focused on than window coverings and the same for the other. Family has a history of taking care of their customers to the utmost extent. We do the best we can to make you comfortable in a no pressure environment. Family Carpet and Draperies has remained at the same address for over 30 years! So you can count on us to still be here for the next 30 Years. It is a family owned business that consists of Paul and Tami as the owners, 2 of their 3 sons Ryan and Evan, Karen (Nana) the grandmother, and Patty (a close friend of the family). Business Owner

Paul has lived in San Diego most of his life. He started working in the business do installation of window coverings back in the 70’s. Sooner than later, he was asked if he wanted the business do to the owner moving away. SO he took up the reigns in 1976 and has been leading it ever since. Paul and his wife Tami have a family of 5 consisiting of 3 boys Ryan, Evan, and Weston. Ryan and Evan currently work in the business looking, and Weston is a graphic designer for CBS. Paul, when not working, enjoys his time surfing, and going to Church and has done so for many years.

Paul has worked many hours pushing the limits to the industry and has bestowed much of his knowledge on to his sons who are now pushing to be an innoavated company bringing you the latest designs as well as the classic designs. All in all, Paul and the family is why the business is still around, they are a caring business who cares about you as a customer as well as a member of the family.

FCD did a great job installing our window shutters. The cost, installation and awesome customer service is worth the 5 star! Highly recommend this company for your next window upgrade. Be patience it takes awhile for window shutters to be custom cut for Windows.

I recently had custom shades/​blinds made by Family Carpet & Draperies in La Mesa for three rooms in my home. I arranged three separate appointments with two of the largest window treatment companies and Family Carpet & Draperies. The other companies quoted prices of $ 3100. and $ 2600. My last appointment was with Family Carpet & Draperies and they did a beautiful job for under $ 1000. They had the best selection, the best quality, the best price, showed up on time and delivered and installed on the scheduled date. I wish that doing business was always this easy. I could not be happier! Please extend my thanks to this excellent company!

They were way less expensive compared to Home Depot, and Coles carpet and flooring. They wanted 6 grand for three rooms to be done. I paid at Coles for measurement and it was a week later that I called and found out the measurements weren’t put in the system.
Here at Family Carpet & Drapes, they didn’t charge for measurements, and were less expensive. Once they got the measurements, it was only a week later, and they started working on my floors. And it only took a couple of days for installing the laminate flooring.
Coles were going to take 5 business days to work on the floor. I guess they wanted me to pay their worker for a 40 hour work week. The workers were on time and did a great job on my two floors (I ended up having my kitchen floors done by a handyman we used a lot on this new place).

P. S. I am sorry saying this was a great job done by Family Carpet & Drapes and at the same time blasting Coles carpeting & flooring.

I called this company last week and tried to set up an appointment. The girl that was on the phone had told me that I was going to get a call back to set up an appointment which was really confusing because if she’s answering the phones you would think that she schedule’s the appointments. But anyways comes monday and I haven’t heard back from anyone. I called and the girl (not sure if it was the same girl) tell me «well our estimator is out on vacation the other estimator obviously didn’t show up to the estimate. I said «okay so when can you guys go out there» She says whats your number i have to call you back. Seriously! I’ve been pretty much begging them to give me an estimate. I originally called them because of their Unilocal review but OMG how unprofessional is that. Obviously they don’t want my money or my business. I find it so unprofessional and unorganized. As a contractor myself I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone.

Just used Family Carpet and Draperies for the second time in a couple of years and they came through again! I had master bedroom draperies made a couple of years ago (fantastic!) and this time added mechanized blinds to six windows which are very high in my 23-​ft. ceilinged family room. Ryan came out very quickly after my first call to them, measured, help me choose the right blinds and answered tons of questions on mechanized systems (battery vs. electric). He even recommended an electrician for the work that needed to be done for the electric blinds. Installation of the blinds went great! Evan came out promptly, got the work done and they look perfect! I will always recommend this family business! Integrity is everything to me in hiring professionals and I don’t doubt that I will always be treated well by FC&D.

The quickest, most pain-​free home project I’ve ever had done. I walked in the store late on a Friday; Ryan came out the next Wednesday; the appointment was scheduled for Monday, and they were done by Tuesday afternoon. Amazing. The price was fair, the product excellent, the installation staff knowledgeable, courteous, and efficient. There was a very small oversight that gave me an opportunity to assess how they respond to problems: immediately, willingly and completely! It was taken care of within 2 hours of my call. I had some unique problems, it was not an easy, straightforward job, but they handled them with ease, and even gave me a letter for my HOA to document the extra steps they took to comply with their demands. I recommend Family Carpet & Drapes most highly!

Ryan and his team are absolutely the best flooring contractors that I have worked with for new installations! As a busy Real Estate Agent I am always needling competent, responsible, reliable contractors and vendors, that do an «excellent job» for my clients, Ryan and his team provided quality service on every level, and I was totally impressed!
Ryan was able to come out and give me an estimate for new flooring very quickly, so that I could get my sellers home prepped and ready for sale. He worked with my needs and the needs of my clients, to find a solution and flooring that was both of great quality, and at a competitive price that worked within our budget. They also provided great care and service by pushing to get the carpet we requested delivered quickly for a Saturday installation, so that I could meet my deadline of getting the property photographed, and then staged in time to be on the multiple listing service and realtor caravan by the following Tuesday morning. I could not have met this deadline without this type of service. There is a lot to be said for a family owned Business that takes great care in meeting your clients needs.
The installers did an excellent job and were very professional. I would HIGHLY recommend their services, and will now include their company on my list of preferred vendors that I will provide to my clients in the future. Thank you Ryan to you and your team, for a wonderful job!

I bought blinds for my home and I was happy with the product itself. What, I wasn’t happy with was their customer service. To me customer service is so important. I had a problem with one of my blinds and a guy came out, I believe his name was Evan. Yes, it was something silly I had done but he acted like I was really stupid. Not nice at all!!! I left a message to have them call me back to give me some information on what type of silicone spray to use on the track of my patio blinds. They never called me back. Would I recommend this company? NO WAY!!!

We couldn’t be happier! Family Carpet and Drapes just completed our whole home flooring project and we are ecstatic! From start to finish these guys have been absolutely professional and wonderful!
Ryan came out and gave us a great estimate on some beautiful flooring. He was gracious, friendly and knowledgable. We knew immediately that we could trust his company with our family home. We had a pretty tight deadline and different trades to coordinate with and the team at Family made things go off seamlessly. The installers came in and got to work quickly and did an impeccable job. Ryan stayed in contact with me through the entire project and I was confident we had made the right choice.
The installers treated our home with great care and worked diligently on each piece of flooring creating such a beautiful end result. Every single person from Family Carpet and Drapes we had the pleasure of meeting was both incredibly kind and talented. Looking for a custom shutter job, and every place I tried either said custom work was out of the question, or couldn’t be assured because the shutters would be manufactured in China, and take at least two weeks to arrive. On a whim, because I had a few minutes to kill, I stopped in and asked.
Oh no, they said, our shutters are made locally, and we can install them within a few days. I describe the custom job I want; shutters which block the bottom of a large picture window so the dog can’t see out and attack the window frame while trying to get to the mailman (or any other visitor). Shortly thereafter, they visited and performed measurements to confirm mine, and a few days after that the shutters are installed. They even painted over the heads of the finish nails to match the shutters.
And the price? It was so reasonable I went back to order a drapery traverse; yet another custom job they had no hesitation in promising to fulfill.

The previous tenants in our home completely ruined our carpet so we knew they had to be replaced right away. We spent over a month visiting several flooring stores all over San Diego, and received several bids for the job. Paul at Family Carpet and Draperies was willing to stay very close to our budget– not to mention the quality of carpet and laminate we chose with him was a lot better than the others we had looked at in our price range. He was so patient with me as I made several changes to the color of carpet and style I wanted the flooring laid. 5 stars for Paul!
Installation I would say 2.5 stars. The installers were okay. There was a miscommunication with the lady in the shop & the installers. I dropped off a copy of our key for the installers to have so they could enter the property for installation because I knew I had to be at work when they were planning to begin. The morning of install– they call me to come let them into the property, and I work over 40 miles from the property. I was a bit upset at this as I had planned this ahead of time with them. Poor communication on their end. We came to check on the installing process and both the men seemed a bit cold. No smiles or greetings. Upon leaving they left their trash (from lunch) laying on my kitchen counter, several empty and half full bottles of gatorade scattered in several rooms, removed a screen from a window & did not replace it (I assume because they were throwing trash out into the driveway from the top floor. I could tell because there were scraps of waste on the window ledge that weren’t there until after they came). Another thing, we pointed out that they took the shelving apart in a closet and the installer refused to put it back after admitting he took it apart. The base shoe that was installed didn’t look as clean or sharp. Nonetheless, the install was completed on time, but not the most pleasant experience.

Extremely happy with price, installation and service. Could not beat the price anywhere, and I am in love with my wood blinds, panel blinds and all matching window coverings. Ryan Family exceeded my expectations and delivered as promised every step of the way. Very happy to endorse this great family run business. I just bought my first house and did A LOT of price shopping and had a lot of different companies out for an in home consultation. Not only did Family Carpet and Draperies have the best prices but also had the best customer service of all companies I looked into. Ryan came out to my house and was very accommodating in terms of time considering I work full time. He listened to what I wanted and worked with my budget. He didn’t push or try to sell anything more than what I wanted.
Every interaction with anyone from the company was always pleasant and helpful.
Id use this company again and have even referred them to other family members

We were recommended to Family Carpet & Draperies by our real estate agent.
Ryan came to our home for the estimate and was prompt, professional and very pleasant to work with. We paid our deposit with him via credit card that same day and awaited the phone call to schedule the installation once the materials we selected had been ordered.
Not sure who FC&D works with to order materials, but there seemed to be a gap in communication. Ryan first came to our place on June 8. We had our installation scheduled for about a week later, the 18th. FC&D couldn’t complete the installation because some of the basecoard finishing pieces were on backorder. Don’t believe it was their fault, but the place they order from failed to mention it when they placed the original materials order. FC&D came to install «finish» in July once the baseboard trim finally arrived in the warehouse. However, the «final» finishing pieces were still on backorder. Our floor was officially complete in August. Again, not all their fault, we also had vacation schedules to work around ourselves. But the entire process kind of put moving in and unpacking on a very delayed schedule.
Lastly, we get the invoice in the mail for the remaining balance — a couple thousand dollars. I call the office to provide my credit card information, learning that they prefer cash or check. Unfortunately, we don’t have those kinds of funds right now to cut a check. They wanted to charge me the credit card processing fee that they are charged by the credit card company. I find this absolutely absurd. I was never informed that I couldn’t pay by credit card without being charged additional credit card processing fees. Thankfully, FC&D let me know they would ‘eat’ the cost. Gee, thanks. Who is the customer here? It took us two months for our floor to be complete. You took my credit card deposit without mention of issue or additional costs. Time to adjust your policies or your pricing to cover you in the event your customers want to pay by credit card — who writes checks anymore?
In the end, we are very happy with our floor. FC&D did good work. Everyone we worked with was professional and courteous. Just a little frustrating working through the process.
