Excellent customer service! They made a beautiful and delicious birthday cake for my daughter’s birthday at a reasonable price. The cake was exactly what we wanted and they had it ready on time. All of the parents were asking where we got the cake from. I’d definitely recommend this bakery and will be back in the future.

Me and my husband went here cause my birthday is on this friday and this looked like an awesome choice on Unilocal until it took 4 uturns to find them cause their sign matches the wall and they are hidden behind bmh italian, thats not all it says on Unilocal they are open at 8 am so i walk up to the door and find out they are not open and there was no entrance wtf so i call them no one answers. Now i will just have to get a birthday cake elsewhere to bad they are hidden like they dont want business so they wont get mine.

Ducked in here for cookies when I forgot I needed them for a work potluck. The gentleman behind the counter was fantastic – nice, helpful, friendly. And the cookies were great and a big hit with my co-​workers. Only problem was that I drove by it twice because the sign on the building said something other than M&M on it.

I needed a tiramissu cake for my wife and Marcelo made a beautiful and delicious cake. Thanks! You and your team rock. Will definitely order my cakes from them again.

Marcelo and his team at M & M Patisserie made an amazing wedding cake for us! My husband is a huge fan of Key Lime pie — so Marcelo recommended a key lime flavored cake which was perfect for us! Also, in lieu of a traditional grooms’ cake — Marcelo made mini key-​lime pies which all of our guests loved!
They did a great job making a delicious AND beautiful cake that our guests loved!

This review is long over due, but my mom celebrated her 70^th birthday last year and the theme was 1950’s Rock and Roll. I found them on Unilocal and immediately told my sister who lives in SD. My sister called them and made a tasting appointment. The cake tasting went very well as my sister liked all of the cakes! For my mom’s cake, we chose the passion fruit macadamia torte for the first layer and a chocolate cake with raspberry for the second layer. The cupcakes were strawberries and cream that we served to our guests. Everyone liked them and was asking where we ordered the cupcakes. Marcelo (owner) also catered to our request for the decoration. Gave him a couple of pictures for the decoration and the cake turned out so beautiful, matching my Moms bday theme! After our experience with Marcelo and his bakery, this has become our go to place for cakes and cupcakes for special occasions! Oh… and the tiramisu cake is a must try! :)

I called this place because it was close to my job and I needed a cake in 2 hours time. The owner on the phone told me that they needed 24 hours notice. I voiced my disappointment because they had a strawberry cake that sounded delicious and when I want something, I really want it ! The owner then talked to his team and to me they would have my cake ready for me. I got lost trying to find the place because it is on the back side of another unaffiliated establishment, kind of down an alley. Even when I finally found it, I thought I had to be at the wrong place and was a little scared to get out of my car, but I needed that cake! Unsure of myself or my shady surroundings, I entered to find myself in a big kitchen where people were preparing cakes. I had never been in a restaurant kitchen before, so I found myself taking mental notes of everything going on around me. I had no issues with the sanitary conditions, everything was clean and safe practices were observed. The owners were so friendly and talkative. Just really nice people trying to establish a successful business. I paid by credit card and that took a little while due to some computer issue, but I didn’t mind because I was so intrigued by everything that was going on in that huge kitchen. I then grabbed my cake, which was beautifully decorated, and checked my surroundings before running for my car. Lastly, the cake was amazing. Fresh cream, fresh strawberries, fluffy cake. I will definitely use them again in the near future. They get 5 stars based on their awesome personable service, cleanliness and the amazing cake. I know in due time they will relocate to a more inviting shop.

I was visiting the area on work travel and needed to deliver baked goods to a few customers in the surrounding area. I placed my order somewhat on blind trust with the owner, Marcelo.
He was very accommodating in creating my custom cookie order. I had a chance to try a few of the cookies and they were fantastic. No doubt, he deserves 5 stars for great products and customer service.

The cake was beautiful and tasted even better than it looked!
Customer service was also great! The gentleman was so friendly and able to assist us with our last minute request.

We love this place because they have amazing desserts! Our favorite is the Gianduja chocolate pyramids. My husband is a chocoholic and is totally hooked to these tiny treats! But don’t be fooled by their size! I can only eat ½ at one time and my husband can only eat one (amazing because he’s known as the «three Galaktobourkeo guy» at Kecho’s and can shovel desserts). We will be regulars here for a long time.
Just so you know: This is not a regular bakery! Don’t expect to waltz in and walk away with a cake. From what we know (and I’ll change this review if I’m wrong) they only do custom orders and need 48 hours in advance. It’s worth the wait.
The owner Marcelo is SO nice! He is always so friendly and recognized me when I picked up our cake thee second time. He even gave me a few tips so that I could cut our cake without destroying it:)

The owner Marcelo is amazing. I ordered over 1000 mini desserts for my party and chose 10 different flavors. They were decorated so nicely and all my guest raved about how they tasted. Marcelo delivered them personally and made sure everything was as I ordered it. Very reasonable pricing and great service makes for a happy customer.

Just an update! Recently tried their assorted individual desserts that I got from here for a friend’s bday. I tried the blueberry cheesecake tartlet and the key lime cheesecake tartlet, which were both amazing! Rich, creamy, and while I don’t usually like lemon/​lime in my desserts, the tartness of the lime was perfect! There were also crème puffs and this little chocolate cups filled with crème that everyone raved about among other things. Another amazing experience! We have a good-​bye party coming up for one of my co-​workers and the cake will most definitely be coming from here!

Sadly my second experience was not nearly as positive. We ordered a Strawberry Bagatel cake for my b-​day, picked up on ⁸⁄₂₀. No problem with service and it was visually beautiful, but we were disappointed with the cake. Here’s how the cake is described: «Two layers of yellow genoise brushed with Grand Marnier. White chocolate butter cream filling and whole fresh strawberries. Top glazed with dark chocolate. Each piece topped with a whole berry.»
Sounds great right? The problem was the strawberries were huge and really not the greatest and they also were not cored properly. Secondly because the strawberries were so big this made the middle layer of butter cream a good 3 inches thick. Way too much butter cream! Honestly it felt like there was more butter cream than cake because the cake layers were thin. The butter cream also had too thick of a consistency. We left it out an hour as instructed but it was still rather firm. When serving the cake layer fell apart from the butter cream/​strawberry layer. It was awkward to eat because you had to cut the strawberries with your fork since they were so big and on some of them I had to cut out the core with my fork. Most of the family did not eat the middle butter cream part. It was very disappointing especially considering the cost — $ 55. With tweaking I feel like it could be a wonderful cake and I’m amazed no one has ever complained about it before. If the strawberries had been smaller (and cored properly!) and the filling was changed to something lighter like a strawberry cream or mousse it would be delightful. The butter cream just does not work and there was way too much of it. Even after leaving it out 2 ½ hours the second time we ate it, it was still too firm. Maybe because of the white chocolate? Unfortunately this experience has left me hesitant to use this bakery again.

this review is based on the phone service i received when i called earlier to get pricing and place an order.
first i was told the person in charge wasn’t there and to call back later. when i asked if i could get prices on cakes already in the shop, i was asked when i needed the cakes. when i said sunday, i was told «we don’t work on sunday.» when i asked if i could order a cake and pick it up saturday, i was told i would need to place this type of order 48 hours in advance. when i asked if i could find out what was already made to set something aside, i was told they don’t have any cakes. at which point i gave up.
bummer that everyone loves their cakes, and they don’t actually have any.

I ordered a half-​sheet carrot cake and it was delicious! It would of fed atleast 75 people! We served 40 and had half a cake left at the end of the night. This is the first time we have used M & M and we will go back for all of our cakes from now on! The service was excellent! Thank you M & M!

Another long overdue review. Forgive me.
I ordered a half-​sheet Lemon Delice cake for my graduation party in May 2010. It fed my sixty guests, and we had a few pieces left over. The service and attention to detail given to my order by the folks at M & M was extraordinary.
The cake was no less than a piece of edible art. My guests kept asking me,“Where on Earth did you get this delicious cake?”.
I will never use another bakery. Try M & M, you will not be disappointed.

As the bride from Brenda B.‘s review I will only add this: Let these people make your wedding cake! They are earnest and friendly, they let my mom and I waver back and forth on size, shape, flavor, etc. for over an hour with no used-​car salesman-​like tactics. This is a small commercial bakery breaking in to the non-​commercial cake world and I am so glad we chose them. I got a two tier carrot cake with the best buttercream frosting– it was so rich, dense and delicious that my guy and I are still eating it 3 days later! You could not do better at any fancy-​schmancy foo-​foo wedding cake place, I guarantee it!

The cake was amazing! It is somewhat pricey but certainly worth it, and they are willing to work with any budget! Marcelo took extra time to make sure the cake for my son’s baptism was perfect. Try the passionfruit macadamia cake, you won’t be disappointed! Everyone loved it!

M&M Patisserie (M&M stands for Marcello and Maria Alvarez, the adorable and «sweet» owners), is a diamond in the rough. Their baked goods are not only delectable, but they are absolutely beautiful. You would never know by talking with the modest owners that M&M boasts impressive credentials, and has prepared desserts for events hosted by professional sporting teams and other high end clients (such as Jenny Craig… yes, she serves sweets at her events too!)
My most recent experience with M&M was to purchase my wedding cake. My husband and I did the tasting in the bakery and we had such a hard time deciding which flavor to choose because each one was so unique: we tasted a delicious passionfruit cake, tiramisu flavored cake, carrot cake, lemon, strawberry… the list went on. We chose an incredibly rich chocolate/​raspberry truffle cake, which our guests devoured with gusto at the wedding. The design of the cake was absolutely stunning as well: a 3-​tiered masterpiece with shimmering iridescent seashells made of white chocolate artfully placed on top.
If you want an unforgettable wedding cake that tastes amazing and won’t break the bank (yes, M&M has reasonable prices), I would whole-​heartedly recommend this business. (And be sure to invite me for dessert!)

i was at lauren c.‘s wedding, and, indeed, it was an exceptional cake. it is rare that all the guests want to eat the wedding cake, in my experience, and it got devoured. The kids at the wedding fought over who would get a gorgeous, sparkly white chocolate sea shell from the top of the cake.
i’ve been to two other friends’ events who had their desserts. one was an awesome 50^th birthday cake with photographs of the guest of honor on it in icing. the other was for a 60^th birthday for someone who loved elvis, and they made an elvis cake for them. Both were fun focal points for the party, and when they were cut, they were hits. One was a dark chocolate truffle cake, the other a white cake with passionfruit mousse.
incidentally, the m & m operation is behind bmh italian in la mesa, where they sometimes they sell their individually packaged exquisite confections, like flourless chocolate cake dusted with gold, mini eclairs and fruit tartlets, and whimsical cut out cookies with elaborately piped designs.
maria and marcello are amazing chefs, artists, and, on top of it all, really kind and cool people! i’d recommend them for any event.
