St. Luke’s Lutheran Church (5150 Wilson Street) has been active in the community of La Mesa since 1957. The church maintains a diverse following by offering both traditional worship as well as Chicago Folk services on alternating Sundays. St. Luke’s sponsors many important charitable organizations in the world.
Saint Luke is traditionally known as a physician, a follower of Jesus who cared to communicate Christ’s healing love to all people. That is our desire too.

History
Established in 1957.
Tentatively named «The American Lutheran Mission Church,» St. Luke’s was conceived in 1944 and held its first service in the «old chapel» in 1945.
The current worship facility (Sanctuary) opened in 1957. Its majestic stained glass windows, envisioned theologically prior to construction, were artistically designed and built over many years by John Wallis of John Wallis & Associates of Pasadena, California.
In the course of time, St. Luke’s has grown into a campus whose facilities include a pre-school, a day school, a multi-purpose gymnasium (Family Center), and two libraries (school and church).
In the spirit of the Lutheran Reformers, St. Luke’s seeks to offer innovative theological education through its developing Theological Academy and its free «Genuinely Lutheran» curricula.
