I’ve been a patient of Dr. Hixson for over 15 years. Dr. Hixson and his staff are very knowledgeable, professional and caring. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Dr. Hixson has been my eye doctor for almost thirty years. I wouldn´t go anywhere else! And I love greeting Audrey each time I go.

They have great customer service and will send reminder when your next appointment is. Very professional staff and Dr. Hixon is a great doctor.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for awhile. I was driving from Phoenix to San Diego with my boyfriend when I realized halfway in that I had forgotten my contacts! With water sports and activities planned outdoors, I was not excited to try fitting my sunglasses over my glasses. My Phoenix-​based optometrist said they wouldn’t allow anyone to fill my script b/​c it was expired. Panicked, I called Costco, Visionworks and every other chain I could think of near San Diego. No one could help. Starting to lose hope, I called La Mesa Vision Care and explained my desperation. The woman at the front desk said they could help me, no problem. 30 minutes later I had 3 sets of trial contacts in my brand and prescription. She was SO nice and I will be forever grateful! They saved my vacation. Thank you :)

Everyone was very professional and polite. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new eye doctor. They also have a very good amount of eyeglasses to choose from.

Nothing special, its just a regular nice eye doctor with staff that seemed kind of fake. I wanted to try out a real private office, to see how different it was from the walmart or lenscrafters that I’ve gone to but my glasses took over 2 weeks to come back even though it looked like they had their own lab in the office. Don’t get me wrong, it was a nice big office, but that’s about it. I had a prescription pair of ray ban sunglasses that I got from lenscrafters and the girl was pretty rude about saying how she never heard of prescription ray bans and had to confirm it with another staff member to believe me; I know she didn’t mean to be rude, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth. The same girl was also trying to help me pick out glasses even though I already found the ones I wanted, she kept saying they weren’t very fitting on my face, but I ended up spending about half an hour looking through other glasses and ended up getting the ones I picked, seemed like a big waste of time. I’d honestly rather go to lenscrafters so I could get my glasses in one day, regardless of pricing. I think that’s what I’ll do next time.

I had a very pleasant experience at la mesa vision center. I hadn’t had an eye exam in a very long time. i was alittle nervous. The staff made me feel very comfortable. very nice staff. I saw dr hixson. He was very knowledgeable and thorough. .I recommended this place to my sister. excellent customer service!

Made an appointment for my wife and myself and was very satisfied with the exam and information they provided. Very friendly people, well equipped facility, able to give us on the spot information about our vision conditions.
I have a VSP Eye Insurance plan from work and not all Optometrist accept it — La Meas Vision care does.

My 82 year old mother has macular degeneration (dry) that has progressed for 10 years or more. Dr. Hixson originally evaluated her as a candidate for a surgical intervention, but when that didn’t work out currently due to issues outside Dr. Hixson’s control, we returned to see what he may be able to do to help in this low vision situation without surgery. Dr. Hixson is incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and informative. He takes all the time my mom needs to understand his evaluation and recommended treatment. He was able to try several treatment modalities before determining which ones were likely to work best for her. Although Medicare doesn’t cover the equipment or glasses that were prescribed, we are fortunate that Mom can afford to move forward with trying all this out. Dr. Hixson’s genuine concern for his patients is evident in his whole approach. We are fortunate to have found him, and are grateful for his knowledge and treatment. More patients need to know about this incredible resource for low vision adults. I am confident that the treatments we are undertaking will make a big difference in Mom’s life, and enthusiasm in her activities.

Dr. Giles worked with my son for several months to help improve the strength of his eyes and eye tracking skills. He was professional, fun and improved my son’s eye strength. At every appointment we were welcomed with smiles and he ran on time, every time. I got a check in after every appointment. Dr. Giles is a really positive guy and feel very lucky we found such a great vision specialist. I highly recommend him and La Mesa Vision Care.

my family & I have been coming to La Mesa Vision Care /​seeing Dr. Hixson for years. the staff is super friendly, knowledgable, and in my experience, not pushy. but i’ve never tried to order contact lenses, so I can’t attest much to that.
they have a vast selection of frames ranging from Coach, Burberry, Ray Bans, to Maui Jim’s. ultimately, though, I decided to order frames from another company (I had my heart set on them months before).
all in all a great little place!

These idiots gave a contact lens examination, but could not fit correct lenses. 2 months of time out of work to go back and «try this combination and see how it goes» followed by «you cant drive/​read/​see in those? hmmmmmm try these and tell me how it goes». As if their high contact lens prices weren’t enough they also include plenty of «add ons» to help them increase profits too!
DO NOT BUY THEIR PROPRIETARY LENSES! You will never be able to take your prescription to Costco to get a decent price.

Had to go to another eye doctor who fitted correctly the first time.
Good luck working with the billing chick or Audrey when you want your money back. She just says «I’ll look into that and get back to you». I keep calling and sometimes I speak to her but she has never gotten back to me. This part has been going for over 3 weeks as of this posting.

I have no problem with the eye doctor, which is why I didn’t give them 1 star. However, I have an issue with their staff. I stopped in about 20 minutes before closing to get a copy of my daughters prescription. They said the doctor was to busy at the moment and that I could stop in tomorrow to pick it up. When I got there the next day they said they accidentally put it in the mail. I told them I needed it now because I was on my way to Costco to see if I could find them cheaper. After waiting a few they gave me the prescription. We got to Costco and was working with the vision lady who was trying to help us find a generic version of the prescription in her book. It wasn’t listed so we called the doctors office and the same lady with the English accent that gave me the prescription was very rude and told me that they were a custom brand exclusive to their office only! That would have been nice to know 10 minutes earlier when I was just in their office. I probably would have just ordered them then. But no, they let me drive to Costco knowing that the prescription was useless anywhere else. I was tempted to just have my daughter get an eye exam at Costco but I decided to let it go. The quoted me $ 45 for a 90 day supply, and that was only about $ 10 more than Costco so I told them to go ahead and order them. Then when the contacts arrived my wife went to pick them up and the price suddenly jumped to $ 90. When we told them who quoted the price they just said oops, sorry, she should have told you $ 90. My wife ended up buying only 45 days worth since by this time my daughter was on her last pair. She told them that we would have to find another eye doctor. The funny thing is nobody tried to offer a discount or do ANYTHING to keep from losing our business. They would rather lose 2 customers (my self and my daughter) than attempt a bit of customer service.
They are misleading, and manipulative, and have no customer service skills. Other than that they often close 30 minutes early without notice, which is also frustrating. Can they not just stick to their posted hours?

I had a billing issue which was resolved quickly, but I still think the practice of charging the customer ahead of time before they actually purchase contact lenses is slightly unethical. Obviously, it is the consumer’s duty to stand up for him or herself and dispute these charges, but not everyone will do that. I was first billed $ 100 at my initial visit for contacts that I ‘was going to buy’ even though I had made it clear I wasn’t sure about purchasing any. Then I got a bill in the mail with an $ 85.00 charge for contacts that I hadn’t requested or purchased. A phone call quickly resolved the issue, but I still think they need to rethink their billing practices. Please check your charges if you go to this establishment.

Dr. Hixson is the BEST!!! The staff and services were wonderful. I was a new patient and felt well taken care of. He spent time explaining procedures and his recommendations. I was taken back at the time of my appointment and was out the door in a timely manner. I look forward to working with Dr. Hixson and his staff for years to come! I highly recommend him for anyone searching for quality eye care.

Dr Giles is awesome and they are so helpful. At this office. My insurance isnt accepted hear anymore but I would rather come back here than to go to lens crafters.

I have low vision and my condition is progressive. I need an expert with the knowledge, patience and skills to squeeze every ounce of possible vision out of my eyes. Dr Hixson’s attention to the details is the reason I can still drive. He is amazing!
He has the tool chest, the experience and the expertise to ensure that whatever vision is available he’ll help you access it. Better yet, he can explain the complex in easy to understand terns, is caring and clearly vested in ensuring he does the very best for his patients. No stone was left unturned here.
If your vision is challenged or impaired and you want the best care possible, you just found it!

I love La Mesa Vision Care! Every time I go there for my eye examination, I’m treated professionally and with respect. The staff is very nice and Dr. Greg Giles is awesome. I love chatting with him as he examines my eyes. He’s warm, friendly and cool.
Last time I was at La Mesa Vision Care (which was about a week ago), I had to wait just 3 – 4 minutes in the waiting room. Unfortunately, I had just gotten a new cell phone and I was on hold with the company to set it up. They were ready for me and I was on hold and I felt absolutely horrible to keep them waiting. However, they didn’t say anything or get upset. I hurried as quickly as I could, apologized and got my eye exam. My eyesight had not changed in the past decade and it was and is still ²⁰⁄₁₅ and I do not wear glasses.
On a past visit, Greg taught me an amazing exercise to keep my eyes strong and sharp. He told me to focus on a letter across the room with one eye, then focus on a letter nearby. He said I should repeat it several times with each eye because as we age, it takes longer to focus. I’ve been doing what he suggested and it really works. Thank you!
I appreciate these guys and I’ve been going here for many years. I intend on returning because I think they’re the best. Dr. Greg Giles seems to be following the same path as his uncle — who is another fantastic eye doctor in San Diego. Three thumbs up! ;)
