La Mirada Optometry

I was looking for an optometrist and a friend recommended La Mirada Optometry, So I scheduled an appointment and decided to check it out… I got there, was acknowledged and Greeted by the staff when I walked in (which is a plus cuz not many places do) and you know signed and did the usual when you’re a new patient at a Dr’s office… Got pretested, saw the Dr which I have to say was very thourough, Pleased with my exam. I was handed over to the optician, I explained what I was looking for, sge showed me what selection they had of frames and pointrd to what I had in mind. Optician was very knowledgeable in answering my questions and broke everything down in regards to pricing and what my ins. Covers… I loved that she was there giving me opinions and being honest and not just walking away… so my experience here was very pleasant, even joked around some, the staff is very outgoing I would definitely recommend and be coming here again: D

I live in Whittier and have been going to La Mirada optometry for years. Was very glad that he took vsp insurance. Great people would recommend

Every time I have visited La Mirada Optometry they have been very courteous and professional. I can’t say enough great things about Dr. Byrne. He is a very kind person who always explains everything I ask him about. I much prefer going to a local doctor than the franchise places that don’t seem to really care about me. Here, I am a person, a patient they care about. Thank you!!!

Needed an optometrist to get a new prescription and this was right by my house on the way home… Now, as a business owner I may be more sensitive to customer service than the average patron, so I was pretty turned off from the get go.
Walked in, three ladies slouching behind the reception. Two look up and appear too lazy to toss me a greeting. The third realized someone should probably say something so she gives me a «Can I help you» with a – what the hell do you want?– scowl… ummm need an exam?
Very unwelcoming and I felt like walking out right then and there because who wants to give people like this your money? So I ask about the prices and get answers with no eye contact and the look of «Ummm you’re still asking questions»…wtf?
I don’t know who the doctor is but you might want to check your help buddy. Who knows how much business you lose over the phone or in person because these slobs can’t put a smile on or do their job and greet. These ladies look like they have nothing better to offer humanity so they sit behind a desk and just browse the internet, not to be disturbed.
Also, I agree with the other review THEY ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN LENS CRAFTERS! lol I was like, you have horrible customer service and now you want me to pay you THAT? Where’s Gordon Ramsay when you need him «PISS OFF!»
BOTTOM LINE: If you don’t mind shitty service, go for it. I can’t speak for the doc… the other review did so read hers. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

I’m sad I can’t go back to my old provider. I loved the optometrist I found last year, but his office doesn’t take my insurance anymore. :(
I found La Mirada Optometry and thought I’d give it a shot since it was close to home. Overall, I think Dr. Byrne is an ok optometrist. He is a nice gentlemen and with an easy going attitude. I wish he would communicate more about what he was doing during my eye exam and also what the results were. Rather then him telling me first, I had to ask questions about the health of my eyes and whether my vision had gotten worst at the end of the exam.
The reason for the 2 star review? I’m pretty sure I got ripped off when I got my contact prescription refilled.
So one of the staff members was calculating the costs of the contacts with my insurance. For a 6 month supply, I basically don’t have to pay anything (my insurance covers $ 130 and then 15% of the amount that is left over). For a year supply it calculates to a total of $ 150. In my head, I’m thinking «whoa, this is a bit pricier then what I paid last year at my other optometrist.» But since she doesn’t show me how she came up with that number or a list price of the contacts, I give her the benefit of the doubt.
After I paid, I ask her how much the contacts were. She says that the contacts are $ 70 a box. I need 4 boxes for a year supply so it was $ 280 w/​o my insurance. I do the calculations and realize she hasn’t taken off the 15% off the $ 150. I call the office back to confirm the price again because by then I’m already home and the lady tells me she made a mistake. The contacts were ACTUALLY $ 80 dollars a box and I was actually suppose to pay more. But she’ll let it slide because I already paid. RIP OFF.
Is she trying to save face because she already charged me and couldn’t refund the difference? Is she trying to make me feel like I actually saved money? Even if the contacts were $ 80 a box, why would I even go back when I can go to another provider that sells them cheaper. I only paid $ 110 for a year supply last year. Its even cheaper if I bought it online (and for reference, yes, I did my research. My contacts do not cost $ 80 per box). I couldn’t dispute the price, because I never asked to see the list price of the contacts they were selling. I should have been more aware. I felt like she was arbitrarily throwing out numbers.
TIP: Ask to see the list of prices for contacts so you can verify the amount. Also, have the staff write down the calculations of the price you are going to pay and have them walk you through, step by step.
Needless to say, I won’t be going back.
