Business Owner

Ms. Ko comes from a business litigation background and has represented Fortune 500 companies and small businesses in a range of business litigation matters. She is now applying her business expertise to represent consumers and small business owners in bankruptcy and with debt settlement. Yoon-​Mi Ko received her J.D. from the University of San Diego, School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to joining LL&K, Ms. Ko was an associate at a boutique business law firm as a litigator. Ms. Ko also worked at Yulchon Law Firm, one of South Korea’s largest, full service corporate law firms. She is a member of the State Bar of California and is admitted to practice before the Central District of California. Ms. Ko is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Beverly Hills Bar Association. She is fluent in Korean.

I chose Ms Yoon-​mi Ko as my bankruptcy attorney after searching here on Unilocal.She had excellent reviews and now I can say from experience that she is wonderful. She answered all my questions both at the start and throughout the process. My e-​mails to her were always answered speedily and she was also quick to return any phone calls.
Bankruptcy can be a bit scary but she was kind and reassuring.
Her rates are reasonable and you can choose to have her handle only the filing or to have her or one of her associates there in court with you. There is one flat rate for filing and another for filing plus being accompanied at court.
She is kind, gentle, reassuring, and competent ! I recommend her highly.
If you choose this law firm be sure to ask for Ms Ko !!

Well I am on hold right now to talk to the law office of Lee Lau and Ko. May be I should call about a job because I’ve been on hold for solid 6 min. on one hand this might be good because they are busy, but on the other hand it’s annoying.
Oh wait a minute, someone just picked up the phone. Hold on
okay I just finished my initial conversation and the guy who answered the phone seem pleasant and articulate. he took down my information and said that an attorney would call me back from the mid-​Wilshire office as soon as they’re available. So before posting this review I’ll hold in the draft folder. .. .

After a long extensive struggle of trying to figure out if I should file for bankruptcy or not, I had the pleasure of calling over a dozen different attorneys that either charged a ridiculous amount for their services, took too long to call me back, or just didn’t seem to care. I called Lee, Lau & Ko, LLP and spoke with Yoon-​Mi Ko who assured me how easy the process was and genuinely seemed to care. She answered all my questions with a clear and understandable answer and gave me options if I decided not to file for bankruptcy. I decided to file and she basically walked me through the whole process. Every time I had a question, which was a lot, she responded in a timely matter with a detailed and easy to understand answer. I was very nervous throughout the whole process, but Ms. Ko did a great job of making it a comfortable experience. Yoon-​Mi Ko was the lawyer who helped us, and she saved us so much her fee was insignificant and worth every penny. Not only is she an excellent lawyer who knows her way around things the other lawyers will tell you are insurmountable, but she is a lovely person who truly cares about helping you. If you are going through bankruptcy, you could not do better, in my opinion. You can do the bankruptcy on your own, but I wouldn’t recommend it after seeing how complex it is and how easy it is to make mistakes that will cost you more than the lawyer’s fee.

I’m not one to write reviews on anything. Sometimes, you get someone that goes up and beyond and this is what compelled me to sign up for Unilocal and write a review. This is the least i could do.
I had to file for bankruptcy due to a failed business venture and my husband losing his job. I went and called various law office that specializes in bankruptcy and I chose Lee, Lau & Ko because they made me feel comfortable. I went to the office wtih my husband and met with Yoon Mi. She was very knowledgeable and professional. Not to mention her calm and understanding demeanor. It put us at ease. Due to the fact that money is tight, we decided to just have her prepare the paperwork and filethe paperwork and my husband and I will just go to the hearing ourselves. She emailed us and guided us the whole entire process up till the day before the hearing. On the day my husband and I went through the hearing ourselves. We were nervous since we’ve never done this before. We were surprised to see her tapping me on the shoulder. She said she didn’t feel comfortable leaving us to do this by ourselves so she rearranged her schedule to be there with us. I was pleasantly surprised. We had an agreement and got a discount to actually sit in the hearing ourselves and there she was with us wanting to make sure that everything goes smoothly.
thank you Yoon Mi for everything. Now we can start our life again. A lot of times, when you’re down in the dumps, you expect people to take advantage especially when you’re in a desperate situation but I’m very lucky to have chosen this law firm to represent us.

Yikes. I read the reviews & was so excited to hear back from Lee, Lau & Ko. after they fumbled two initial messages several days apart, I resolved that whoever picks up the phone at the LA & SD offices was having a hard time understanding simple sentence structure. so I went online to request a callback. After two rushed conversations with Lau & Ko, I was not so gently ushered off the phone bc they were too busy. After Ko told me she’d get back in touch with me at the end of the week, she then sent an email that she’s ‘really swamped now’ and perhaps the next ‘month or so’ would be better… unsavory.
For what it’s worth, I’m a graduating law student and was calling for two reasons, to talk about my financial prospectives with personal & student debt & to see if I could intern for free for their (apparently busy) firm.
As a former business owner (and someone in a place that they were in not too long ago as a graduating law student), I think they lack basic customer service skills and was disappointed at what a lack of care they had for someone calling with genuine issues & concerns. So much for my complimentary consultation. :(

have worked with Lee, Lau & Ko twice already. I had a lot of questions about my difficult financial situation and they were very attentive and were able to answer all my questions. They worked hard and fought for me. I really felt like their heart was in it and that they cared about me more than just trying to run a business. Also, on a side not, Yoonmi Ko also assisted me in a neighbor who kept extorting me out of money because of an unfortunate dog situation. My neighbor was bit by my little maltese. She was wearing jeans so she got a little bruise on her ankle. She kept coming around and asking for money. She went to the ER, got blood work, went to the hospital 3 times, prescriptions for God know what, and etc. etc. And of course I paid for it all because ultimately I felt bad and my dog was my responsibility. But even after that, she continued to come over and ask for cash. There were many times we had to call the police. I contact Yoonmi Ko and she put a stop to it immediately! It was such a relief. She really was a lifesaver! These attorneys really care. It’s very hard to find lawyers that really put their all into their work. It makes such a difference. They are not only professional but very compassionate and my experience with them is proof of that.

«Champagne Lifestyle on a Beer Budget»
I had enormous amounts of credit card debt accumulating because of my «champagne lifestyle on a beer budget». I started feeling very overwhelmed because I started missing payments and these credit card companies and their a-​hole collectors would call me all day and night and literally harass me (I understand it’s my fault that I started missing payments, but, dude, there’s something called common courtesy and decency, treat me like a human, not a bad dog that peeped on the carpet).
That’s when I decided to check Unilocal and found the attorneys at Lee, Lau & Ko. After meeting with Yoonmi, I felt better about the situation because I had a lawyer on my team (which to be honest is very empowering to tell these guys to «call my lawyer») and within a couple of days the harassing calls stopped. Within a reasonable amount of time, she was able to do her magic and negotiate with the credit card companies to terms that I could live with.

all i can say is «thank you».
i never thought i would ever have to experience the pains of divorce, but i guess things don’t always turn out the way you plan them. besides having to deal with the emotional trauma of splitting up from my wife, there was the financial side to try to deal with.
i’ve never been a numbers type of person, so trying to organize and split up property, finances, and valuables was a seemingly impossible task for me. attorney yoonmi ko made all this so stress-​free and easier than i ever thought it could be.
i was truly overwhelmed by the divorce and felt helpless because of all the legal/​document/​financial issues. yoonmi was not only knowledgeable in all aspects, but so sensitive and understanding during this rough time.
