History
Established in 1947.
The resort was built by Alvin Schmuecking and operated by his wife Trudy Schmuecking until 2000. Their daughter Lottie and her daughter Nancy now manage the resort.
The cottages were considered ‘modern’ because they had indoor plumbing for bathrooms and showers. Many of the older resorts in the area offered outhouses and a shower building. The cottages were labeled ‘housekeeping’ to distinguish them from the lodge type resort where you ate your meals in another building (American Plan).
Most of our early guests came from the Chicago area. Some took the Chicago and Northwestern railroad service to the resort, although cars were becoming more popular as the main vacation transportation.
