History

Established in 1997.

The Washington Gemological Laboratory was established to provide a truly unbiased source for the appraisal of jewelry, gemstones, silverware and holloware. We started out appraising directly within the jewelry stores. We have worked for both independent and chain stores from Chehalis up to Bellingham and Poulsbo. In 2008 we decided to only appraise within our office where we can control all of the elements necessary to deliver the most accurate appraisals possible. We have been accepted as an expert witness within Kitsap and King counties.

I have lived in the Olympia area since 1980. I started in the jewelry business in 1978 after serving 8 years on active duty with the Navy. I have a BA from St. Martin’s University and a MS from University of Southern California. I started appraising in April 1997. I believe in staying on top of the ever changing world of gem stones and to that end attend at least 3 conferences a year. As a Certified Master Appraiser, I am currently mentoring 5 new appraisers in appraisal methodology with the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers. I am a member of the Rotary Club of Hawks Prairie as well as a member of the Tenino Masonic Lodge.
