Bee Friendly Honey offers a physical hive removal service! Steve is fully licensed and bonded, and we are entirely pesticide free. We offer a sustainable and ecologically sound way to remove pests from unwanted places: hives of removed honey bees are relocated to our apiaries that are located in the Bay Area and the foothills of the Sierras, primarily Angel’s Camp and Murphys

History

Established in 2013.

Attending Cal Poly State University located in San Luis Obispo California I enrolled in a beekeeping class due to its relativity to my major, Agricultural Environmental Plant Sciences with a concentration in Greenhouse Nursery Plant Production. During this introduction to the world of beekeeping I became fascinated in every aspect of the life of bees and the people who tend to them called apiarist. With support from my teacher, Scott Jeffery’s and many other friends and family I decided beekeeping is what made me passionate, loving the unknown of what was behind a buzzing wall in someones home as I began a hive removal, reaching into beach ball sized swarms of bees coxing them into their new home or educating children at schools why bees are an essential part of our ecosystem. Bee Friendly Honey has now served hundreds of customers since March of 2013. Ever since I was a young boy I can remember lifting up stones, wood logs, bricks, pavers, anything that might conceal some type of bug or animal. As I grew older my room became filled with terrariums and aquariums that brought the natural world I so craved to be in right inside my home. The glass enclosures teaming with sound and life, sharing secrets that only the most observant entomologist could decipher. I grew up, wondering if there was ever going to be a way for me to keep learning from the most wonderful teacher I’d ever had, nature herself. During this exposure to nature I also developed a green thumb nursing plants back to life and growing new and exotic ones from seeds and cuttings. This is when I decided to attend Cal Poly State University, studying plants and flowers that grew with the vigor of my imagination. Then one day working in the flowers i saw a honey bee, my eyes lit up as I realized I had finally found a way to follow my heart, and be one with the bees.

Steven from Bee Friendly Honey was very professional, diligent, and reliable! We had a huge yellow jacket nest in the attic above our bedroom that he cleaned out without using any pesticides. We can’t recommend him enough. His rates are very reasonable. We’re hoping to hire him for other projects, too. He’s such a responsible and mature young man — we were very impressed.

We recently had a bee problem where the bees built a nest within our roof attic. We located Steven Harris, the owner of Bee Friendly Honey, through Unilocal and made an appointment with him to eradicate our bee problem.
Steven was punctual, arriving on time, was clean-​cut, and displayed a very friendly demeanor. He spoke very knowledgeably and confidently about being able to take care of our problem. He quickly went to work and was finished within an hour. He completed the job for the price that he quoted us and did not attempt to add on any hidden or after costs. Because we were so pleased with his service, we hired him to do some preventative work for the following week.
We would highly recommend Steven for any your bee issues. He is a professional, that is punctual and performs the services for the agreed price.

Last summer we noticed there were a lot of honeybees around the back corner wall outside of our kitchen. They never bothered us so we just left them alone. Then, recently we noticed bees inside our kitchen, so we decided to contact Steven from Bee Friendly Honey to come and see what was going on.
DUDE! These little guys set up shop in a wall of our house!
Even though it sucked that these honeybees started a full on factory in our wall, I felt pretty cool about the whole situation and that was mainly because of Steven. I was so impressed by his positive attitude, his professionalism, and his clean work. And, in the short time he was there, he gave me great education about honeybees. Also watching Steven work is fascinating! He’s like a «Bee Whisperer» or something. He opened up the wall to expose the hive and all those thousands of bees weren’t even trying to sting him or us. They just kept on doing what they do. I’m to the point of not being that scared of them anymore!
Anyway, it’s very clear that Steven is truly passionate about what he does. So glad we chose him. We’d give him 10 stars if we could. Keep up the excellent work, Steven!

I know Steven as «Scientist Steve,» my friend Renee’s brother who visited the Transitional Kindergartners at a school in Berkeley I worked for. His honey is delicious; the kids and I all sampled every flavor he had (*some of the kids turned into lil Winnie the Pooh’s it was so good*)
I recently moved to Lafayette and randomly found Steven’s business because I always want to get local raw honey for allergies and home beauty scrubs. Now that I know Scientist Steve is local, I will definitely be visiting soon!

Steven visited our place today to look into our wasp issue. He quickly diagnosed the issue as paper wasps and imparted information about them which was very informative. He had a simple and quick solution that took care of the problem. He sealed our eaves and lifted them into proper position which he did not have to do, he certainly went above and beyond. He has a friendly disposition and was a pleasure to deal with. We will be ordering his honey and calling for his services again should the need arise.

We had a swarm of honey bees living inside a stucco wall that we wanted removed. Steven came as promised and they were all gone in about 4 hours. He cut a small hole in the wall and used a vacuum system to collect them. He also removed all the hive and honey and cleaned up everything before he left. He also put a temporary patch on the holes so the remaining stragglers couldn’t get back into the area. A day later there were still a few bees around but they eventually moved on. I recommend him highly for all your bee and wasp problems.

Steve was very friendly and professional. I needed help removing a hive from the wall of my house and Steve made the hole in my wall as small as possible and cleaned up after he was done. He is a very nice guy and definitely cares about his business. We called Steve because of his 5-​star rating on Unilocal,and were very pleased with his service and his fascinating explanation of what makes bees tick. Although it turned out the bees had left some time in the previous 24 hours (!), he thoroughly checked inside the wall where they had been, the outdoor entry hole, various crawl spaces, and the perimeter of the roof. He explained that the bees we saw and heard in the wall were probably «scouts» looking for their next hive site. It’s a relief to know who to call if and when the whole family arrives next week!

A swarm found its way into our backyard and took up residence on a tree. We called Steve, who was very polite and helpful, and set up a removal for the next morning. He was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to educate us on these amazing creatures, explaining exactly what had happened when they arrived. In fact, his explanation was so good that my fiancé (who is petrified of bees) even came out to listen to him and watch the removal. We’ll definitely call Steve if we need another removal, and will be ordering honey from his website.

In fall of 2013, Steve removed an established hive from the trunk of a large oak tree. It took about three weeks to get all the bees to exit the tree trunk but with a great deal of care and patience, Steve got it done. Steve was very professional, knowledgeable and dependable. We were especially happy to have the bees relocated, not exterminated and we learned a lot about bees in the process. If you have any bee issues, a call to Bee Friendly, is the right thing to do!

Steve came over and exceeded all my expectations. We had a hive under the floor of a shed in our yard, and he was able to remove it with minimal damage to the structure. He saved the bees, even showed me the queen.
He was knowledgeable, efficient and thorough. For anyone dealing with bees, whether it is an established hive or a swarm, he should be your first call. With his careful work, the bees will continue to pollinate, but they’ll be doing it from his apiary rather than my home.
On top of all his good work, he makes fantastic honey. I recommend Bee Friendly for anyone dealing with bees. If I have any bee issues in the future, I’ll be calling Steve.
