History

Established in 2004.

Dechen Designs was launched to bring the magic of the Himalayas to the United States through the high quality arts & crafts of Nepal. Owner, Dechen Lama-​Luna was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal and lives in Pleasant Hill, California. She has a passion for elegance and believes «how you look tells the world how you feel».

Being a busy mom and an entrepreneur (mom-​preneur) herself, Dechen realizes that time is a commodity and has specialized in creating «effortless elegance» for busy women with her line of highly collectible Shawls that can transform any outfit into an elegant expression.

In 2006, Dechen was featured in the «Business Section» of The Contra Costa Times, «Where We Live» section of The Times and in Black Diamond Living Magazine.

Dechen Designs is an active member of The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and The Entrepreneur’s Club of Lafayette.

Business Owner

Dechen came to the United States in 1990 for higher education. A few years later, she became the first woman from Solukhumbu, (a Sherpa Village in Nepal) to earn a Masters from an American University graduating with a BS in Marketing and an MBA from Seattle University. Later she worked in various industry positions such as the International Business Manager for Hexcel Corporation.

Dechen has always been passionate about cross cultural communication. As a young girl growing up in Nepal, she learned Spanish, Japanese and Hindi and immensely enjoys her multilingual skill.
