Jerry is awesome! He was able to put my knowledge to shame in about three minutes flat. He knows Mercedes cars inside and out, and every trick/​tool in the book to keep them running in top condition. I’m convinced he could work on my car blindfolded and do a better job than anyone else I’ve come across.
They’re fast and fair, with no surprises. I drive my car with confidence that it will last me forever, as long as it’s under Jerry’s watch.

Jerry has been servicing my Mercedes for over 10 years. He is honest and fair, and does not do unnecessary work. I have never found a better Mercedes mechanic… and he fixes my daughter’s Ford Focus as well. You will find none better,

I own a 2002 Jaguar XK8 coupe. I purchased the car in 2012 and have had the car serviced there exclusively after examining a few other shops in the East Bay.
I have owned sports cars for 40 years and and can evaluate a good mechanic quickly.
Carlos Caicedo is a master mechanic who is technically proficient and very experienced. He diagnoses issues correctly and explains the method by which he will proceed with a repair. All costs are clearly identified so as to avoid unpleasant surprises. The repairs are done correctly and quickly. Equally important is that he is honest and does not try to upsell unnecessary work. Finally, if a mechanical issue arises occasionally Carlos is ready to answer the phone and provide his expertise to solve the problem. The ownership of my Jaguar has been a worry free experience thanks to Lafayette Motors.

Prices seem higher than other shops. After I picked up my car, I called other shops on Unilocal with high ratings and asked for estimates without telling them anything had been done. Estimates from other shops were 20−30% lower than what I paid Lafayette Motors for the same work. Also, two shops advised that the repairs I listed was extensive and replacement of certain parts was probably unnecessary, so I should reconsider whether or not I wanted them to perform all that work. It’s possible shops give you a lower estimate to get your business, but in my experience, good places do not deviate from the estimate by much, if at all, when it’s time to pay. The best indie mechanics have never charged me more than the estimate, even if it took them longer.
Also, repairs took longer than what I’ve experienced with other mechanics. Maybe there is a parts supply issue, longer time required to diagnose the problem, or longer time required to perform the job.
I’ve had better value and work elsewhere. I struggle to find any reason to return with my business.

After a runaround with questionable mechanics all over the Bay Area, I found quality, excellence and great customer service in one place. Thank you Lafayette Motors for everything. My stress level due to car problems has reduced significantly after I found this place. It is such a peace of mind to be able to trust that they have your best interest at heart and are genuinely interested in making sure you are heard.
